The check-in process was great. We were able to get a room since my assigned one wasn't yet around check-in time. The unit itself needs to be updated compared to the other US locations. Since tropical island brings in the bug, I did see dead bugs on the comforter. Small ones after I checked it. There was also a tiny roach on the kitchen counter. Didn't bother me since we were staying for 1night to check out the Manta Rays at the Outrigger. If you were on a tight budget, this could be a good spot. Convenient to explore this part of the Island. If not, I recommend going north to Hilton or Marriott. Want yo spend more, go further north to the Four Seasons. I typically don't travel and need to stay at a 5 star hotel. A 3.5 to 4 would be great!

What an amazing location and I cannot say enough good things about the staff. BBQ grill was even cleaned by staff. Plenty of grills to cook your own food. Kiddie pool, regular pool and hit tub. Money from recycled bottles goes to local charities. Near the beach, walking distance. You can walk downtown from here or walk to the beaches. The bus goes right by this location. Clean rooms. We had oven, blender, microwave and coffee machine as well as hair dryer. Nice shower, we had three Hitachi A/C units in our place and they worked really well. Thumbs up! 5 strong stars. I would use again.

Located in a nice walk to the beaches or a good walk to downtown Kona, the rooms were clean and well designed. It's a quiet resort and perfect for the in and out times in Hawaii! Best part is unlike hotels in Hawaii, they do not charge 30-35 a day for parking and literally every time you open the refrigerator - you save yourself 50-75.00!

This place isn't super posh but it definitely has everything you need! The front desk service is wonderful. The rooms are big and clean. The location is close to town. The rooms we have been in have a well stocked decent kitchen. There isn't one drawback to staying here!

We did have an issue one morning with the kids/grandkids above us but that staff took care of that quickly. My only negative is the sales pitch at the Club Wyndham "meet and greet" we were told we qualified for the 30 minute "meet and greet" yet we were there for well over an hour. My advice is not to lie to your owners. I do wish checkout was at 10 am. At the very least it should be 11 am.

Check-in with Preston was ordinary and uneventful, but as we walked to our car, Daniel followed us and insisted we come back to get wristbands. While technically true, this quickly turned into a very aggressive sales pitch. He acted "surprised" that we hadn't been told about a supposed offer and claimed that because of the way we booked, we were entitled to either a $100 Amazon gift card or a free cruise. This was not true--we booked through our credit card's travel site (DeltaStays.com). When I asked if this involved a presentation, he admitted it was a 91-minute session but said we could just walk away if not interested. We told him no, but he immediately pressed us with "why not?" questions. I explained that, as someone who works in tax law, I often deal with clients struggling to get out of timeshares, and my wife and I had no interest. Still, he kept pressing, insisting we explain ourselves. When we made it clear he wasn't owed an explanation, he shifted into a strange monologue about psychology and needing to know why we declined. Even after we said, "We don't know what else to say--we're walking away," he persisted, telling us it would really "help him" if we just attended the presentation. Frankly, this behavior was pushy, manipulative, and far below the standard we expected from Wyndham. We had always heard positive things about Wyndham, which is why we booked here, but after this experience, we will not return. We will also be sharing this experience with friends and associates so they can avoid the same treatment. Club Wyndham may profit from its timeshare operations, but salespeople need to learn how to respect customer boundaries and wishes. Guests who book a stay should not be ambushed with aggressive tactics--they should feel welcomed and respected.

This may not be a great place for people who are looking for a night life, five star dining, or a busy shopping strip. This hotel is located next to a small road lined up with small restaurants and shops. Personally, we love it. We love it so much we have stayed here twice. Our kids enjoy the easy access from our room to the pool to the beach and back. We appreciate this place for it's simplicity. Our first visit we stayed on a regular floor and felt that some rooms needed a little refresh (although not terrible). Our second visit we stayed in the Marriott Bonvoy floor so the rooms were a little more refreshed (updated). We enjoyed the water refill station, all floors should have one. Staff - Staff has all been helpful and pleasant. Pool staff is the best. Pool - Our favorite place. We spend most of our time here. We love that they give you a wristband now so that it keeps out non-guests. Towels are passed out with a card given at check-in. It's easy and convenient. Pool staff walks around often and takes drink and food orders as needed. Beach chairs are a first come first serve basis, but we've never had an issue finding any. Beach - The convenience of having the beach at your fingertips is unmatched. My kids go from the beach to the pool multiple times a day. The beach is not usually crowded and you can find a spot to lay out a towel. If you would like to rent an umbrella and chair you can visit the rental booth right next to the beach - it is easy and convenient. If you are a hotel guest, you get one free rental (I don't remember the length) during your stay. This is a great snorkeling spot too and you can also rent a paddle board. We usually bring our own snorkeling gear, but renting is available too. Our kids are older and chose to snorkel near the port, but be aware the current/waves are stronger there. I would NOT recommend it for young kids, especially not without a vest. Food - We never ate at the restaurant. We grabbed coffee and breakfast from the coffee shop downstairs. It's pricey, but not bad considering the convenience. We also chose to walk across the street to eat breakfast and lunch. For dinner, we usually took a stroll down the main road to find a place to eat. There are PLENTY of options. Snow cone hours are odd at times, but if it's closed there is a great place across the street as a secondary option. There is an ABC store right next to the hotel. We opted to buy alcohol and snacks to keep in our room in our mini fridge. ___________________________________ MY CON: Sigh.... Our 2nd stay was during the TSUNAMI WARNING on July 29, 2025 - we didn't have a rental car until the next day so we had to rely on the hotel to relocate us to the local high school. It was also my child's birthday so we spent it evacuated. A lot of the guest who didn't have a car had to leave to the high school with no food and no water. We grabbed what we could and lined up for the bus. The ABC closed once the sirens went off, so we were left with no food. We were given NO instructions, we were only told to get on the bus and go. We had only ate breakfast and you can't imagine how hungry we were. No one had a car. No Ubers available. No restaurants open. We were lucky enough to find a worker who was kind enough to take my husband and another dad to a gas station to grab some items for our kids to eat. Yay to gas station sandwiches and Powerades. Once the emergency was cleared (10 hours later), we were allowed to come back to our hotel. Staff welcomed us back with a water bottle and a bag of chips (sigh). I was so annoyed by this gesture. I cannot explain why, because I shouldn't be - but I was. I am grateful and thankful that our family was safe. I am glad that we had the option to be bussed to the evacuation center. HOWEVER, in the future - staff should have an emergency plan in place to share with guest. There needs to be a form of communication for guest to receive updates. We were left with NO information, just dumped off. It was a very scary experience for us and having more details would have helped.

All for $13,494.56 and a $469 Costco Shop Card kickback. Given the quality of the huge 2 bedroom, 2 full bathroom, and in-room laundry - that's a decent 3 star "hotel" value. That said, I'm wondering if Costco Travel screens out some of the room options at this Aston. Seems like all of the rooms are individually owned and there's huge variance with how some keep up with maintenance and upgrades vs. not. We couldn't be more happy with our room - clean, fully stocked with everything we needed; and again, so spacious! But given the age of the building, I can see how some rooms - if neglected over the years - could be a disaster. The amenities in terms the pool and lounge area in front of the breaking ocean - was superb. Great to be able to hear the breaking waves all night long. The maintenance crew seems at the top of their game too - I saw them every day taking care of the grounds, and one who transitioned to security duty let me know my van door was wide open at 1am - in the most polite way possible. Parking is easy and plentiful. The location of this Aston is just far enough from the congestion of downtown Kona, but still close enough to get to in minutes by car, and a bit longer - but easy walk. Nice launch point for various beaches and points of interest further south too.

However the rooms feel unprepared. My room had no shampoo, conditioner, or body wash. And the shower looked like it wasn't cleaned well. A lot of people complain about food being expensive, but resort food in Hawaii is always expensive. I recommend to get out of the resort you're staying at and explore the city's local restaurants, it's almost always a more affordable and enjoyable experience. The hotel does have sone nice family activities. I will say one thing I was extremely disappointed on was the beaches, I would definitely not recommend coming to this resort if you are looking for good beaches to swim in or to explore. This resort had no beaches, instead it had a bay for paddle boarding but that's about it. Another thing I was extremely disappointed on was the amount of closed areas in the hotel. It felt unnecessary and unprofessional. The scenery is very beautiful. Then again, almost any place in Hawaii is extraordinary. This resort specifically had an amazing view of the slope of Kona. It almost felt like I was in California but a much more tropical and pretty version of California.
