If you want to learn how to play drums, then you can't do better than learning from William. My 7 year old daughter looks forward to her classes every week. He is super patient with her and makes the classes fun and interesting. He moves at her pace- whether it needs to be faster or slower and that makes a huge difference in how fast/well she learns. My 10 year old son has been taking classes from William since September of 2015. In the last ~10 months I see he has improved a lot on the fundamentals. William is very professional and very patient with his students, sticks to the time and doesn't waste any time during the lesson. He makes sure the student is picking up the right skills and paces/structures the lesson accordingly. There is no point moving on to the next subject without getting the current one right : is his philosophy. Most importantly my kid is always looking forward to the next lesson, which shows how kid friendly he is , and to me that is the most important thing because I don't want my kid to give up the hobby/interest because of not having the right tutor. The rest is all on how much you practice, which any teacher can't do much about. I am a self taught drummer myself, and wish I had the time and money to learn from someone like William early on. William is a great drum teacher. Not only does he have the chops, his passion and energy for the instrument exudes through every lesson. His approach is a progressive one, and is willing to go as fast or as slow as your practice schedule allows. Lessons are held at his house, with you behind an acoustic kit and William on another. I chose WPW over the more established shop in Fremont, which (for the same price) only holds lessons on electronic kits. But before any of that, I knew William was the right teacher, even before I knew I wanted to commit myself to the drums. As someone who has always wanted to learn, but was unsure on where to start, William first offered to set up a call to talk about drumming in general. There was no pressure to take lessons; he simply answered my general questions about owning a kit (as an apt dweller), what practicing would be like, gave an idea of startup costs, and even a couple of famous jazz drummers to listen to for inspiration! After that call, I really appreciated his willingness to share about the art, rather than just trying to get another student under his belt. I have been learning Drum from William for last 3 months. And I would like to say that within these 3 months I can feel the improvement in my hand techniques and foot techniques. I was not a newbie when I met William. He is very particular when showing me the techniques. And I believe that technique is something that needs to be verified periodically otherwise it can cause disaster. Every class is composed of 2 sections, first is techniques and rudiments. The second half is drum session - here he is strengthening on timing and synchronization. I think William knows what is your requirement and finds out the way to reach your goal without any compromise on basics of drumming. I've been taking lessons from William for almost 3 years and not only has my playing improved beyond a level I never thought possible but my ability to read music has as well. If your not learning to read music then your time is being wasted. That is a skill that will give you the confidence you need to get to the next level.
