Took our annual pilgrimage to Chicago this spring. The hostel we used before had closed sadly, so we booked this place. We very narrowly made it to destination before check-in at the front desk closed at 8pm-- whew! Unfortunately they didn't have any parking left, but they gave us a helpful tip to use some sorta "parking hero" app or whatever and that worked out fine for us for the three days we were staying there. The staff we encountered during our stay were all pleasant (though they were also scarce... the place seemed pretty quiet and almost ghostly while we were there!). Exploring the inside of this place was fun and exciting. From the computer room to the community space to the kitchen to the outdoor deck, this felt like a place where you could settle in and relax awhile, moreso than a regular hotel accommodation. I do like the communal nature of hostels. I loved the bright colors inside this hostel, from upbeat lime greens to exciting oranges and pleasant blues. I like something that isn't afraid to have a little spark and style. Unfortunately I can't give five stars though because they discontinued serving continental breakfast (which we didn't know when we booked), so we had to walk to the 7-11 a block away to get a quick crappy morning meal each day (cuz we didn't have the $ to blow on fancier breakfast fare... thus why we were staying in a hostel to begin with, pfft). We did appreciate the food storage situation however; we were able to keep a gallon jug of milk in the fridge to enjoy throughout our stay, and if we'd been there longer, I'm certain we would've also used the kitchen to prep meals. Go ahead and check the cabinets and such for communal leftovers-- another nice thing about this set up is less food waste! My husband enjoyed some peanut butter on toast just using what was left by other folks who'd already checked out. The other issue I'll mention was the wild temperature fluctuations in our room. We were situated in one of the singles in the basement and half the time it was really cold (like you wanted to keep your jacket on) and the other half the time it was hella warm (and you needed ALL of your clothes off, no covers on the bed). I have no idea what was going on with that. Also there was some sound outdoors that sounded like someone far away just holding their car horn all night long (not the hostel's fault, but annoying for a light sleeper like me), and the streetlight coming in from the inadequate blinds at night made it rough to get a solid night's sleep as well. Overall though, the quality we got for the price we paid was A-OK! Bonus points for being a proudly safe space for LGBTQ+ community! There were little pride flags scattered everywhere. read more

I recently did a one night stay at the Wrigley Hostel with a friend of mine. It appealed to me due to the price and location relative to the things we had planned while visiting Chicago. For starters, our check was supposed to be after 2pm. We arrived shortly after 3pm. The girl working the desk was rude, this was mostly because we had not reserved a "late check in" for a room we had obviously rented for the entire night with a check in time or simply "after 2pm". We found that very odd. If you've never stayed in a hostel like myself (prior to yesterday), it's essentially a few small rooms with a shared bathroom. Had I known that, I would've probably audibles to a hotel. That's on me for not doing proper research, though. There's a set of small, uneven spiral stairs that lead you down to the basement. Folks with physical impairments interested in staying here, beware of that. You're on your own as far as parking is concerned and in a big city like Chicago, that sucks. Especially for anyone driving a full size SUV or truck like myself. It was difficult to find an overnight spot that allowed a bigger a vehicle not too far off the beaten path, but we did find one. No central air, but there's dinky window AC units that do not work very well so that way you don't entirely bake. Good luck staying here during the dog days of summer. In summary, I'd recommend you just bite the financial bullet and just stay at a hotel. The location and the affordable pricing are about the only pros I can give you from my experience. It was a nice hostel and it was quite convenient with busses and a metro close by! The blind behind my bed was broke and it was quite difficult to sleep. This was quite annoying and the staff had obviously seen it as I was shown to my bed. They offer fresh towels everyday but the showers wouldn't be fantastic. I was going to watch a Cubs game till 11pm.it was a perfect location.I used shower.The hostel had lockers.But I had to buy a lock for $5.You have to buy or bring locks if you have baggages.I asked them to let me sleep at the bunk bed.i didn't want to fall while I was sleeping.lol. I woke up in the mid night.Someone was drunk, but a receptionist kicked his ass.Good job. This is a great place to stay in Chicago as it is walking distance to Wrigley field and the Addison L stop. I have no complaints at all about the place for the price, location and amenities My reason for an unsatisfactory review is due to management being cold and insensitive toward me in regards to refunding me for the one day of my stay that I missed due to circumstances outside of my control. I wasn't able to get there the first day of my reservation due to my flight being cancelled and it also happened to be the day that the airline industry set a record for most delayed and cancelled flights in one day. Although this is not really anyones fault, the way management handled things really left a bad taste in my mouth and made me not want to stay there again when I visit Chicago. It's a shame because it really is a great spot. read more

If you love Cubs baseball, enjoy Wrigleyville or just appreciate paying for what you need in a place to sleep for the evening, this is a gem. I had heard of the Hostel but never stayed. As I pulled up, a street parking space was available right in front of the property. Bonus! They provide a parking pass for the street with your reservation fee. The manager and house dog are very friendly. I got checked in and into my room quickly. The property includes a game room with TV, a common kitchen area with refrigerator and coffee maker and a computer work room. Several restrooms with showers. The bathroom downstairs water pressure isn't great however the water temperature is amazing. I stayed in room 4 in the basement. Two windows give you a street level view of foot traffic. It's not the quietest room with cars, a police vehicle and some honking every so often. Also there's a compressor or pump of sorts behind a locked closet door that runs every hour or so which is very loud. Another guest in the next room must have been fighting insomnia as they opened and closed their room door every 10-15 minutes, went upstairs and walked around the upper floor until 4 am. A space heater warmed the room nicely. The reservation process is simple and the price is unbeatable. I look forward to my next visit. read more

This is a great place to stay if you need to stay for a day or two if you plan on visiting Chicago. The place is located 2 minutes from Wrigley Field. There are a lot of bars in the are you can go to! The staff here is friendly and the place is pretty clean. Your room will usually have about 6-7 people there, and the place tries to have activities to help you meet and get to know the people you're staying with. You have to give a $5 deposit for your key, but you will get it back after you check-out. The place provides breakfast for you, such as pancakes, toast, and fresh fruit. Coffee and tea is also provided for you. I would recommend this place because it is safe and secure to stay at the hostel! read more

If you're looking for a super affordable, cozy homey accommodation in a super fun and convenient central location, then look no further! The friendly and welcoming front desk staff, Ita and Jeannette, will go out of their way to accommodate your needs and make you feel at home. When I mentioned that my room was chilly, they immediately brought me a thick blanket, and when I got back with my "doggie bag" while Jeannette was cleaning the kitchen, she cheerfully offered to label my bag and put it in the fridge for me. Great location, but filthy property. Shared bathrooms were revolting and not cleaned during my stay, with wet towels, semI-clogged sinks, and random pubic hair on most surfaces (toilet, sink, windowsill, etc.). My room was dirty -- contained garbage from previous guests and sheets were unwashed. Mystery fluid stains on walls. Draconic policy on changing reservation cost me hundreds of dollars. Avoid this place at all costs unless you're looking for an overpriced and filthy "Animal House" experience. read more

Stayed in this hostel recently. Room was not clean on arrival. Hair clips found on the under side of the bunk bed with hair on it. Two black socks in the corner. Air conditioning barely worked and every time you would turn it on a dirty oil smell would come from it. Very hard to get sleep here with other guest being loud past "quiet time" And hostel staff not being there to enforce the rules. Hours after checking out we were charged 20$ with no reason. We called wrigley and found out it was because a singular plastic cup was left in the room and that the socks (which were already in the room) were left there by us. I recommend wrigley if you are majorly stuck but other spend a bit more for something far better. read more

I've never stayed at a hostel before and wasn't sure what I got myself into but this place is great! The hostel is a two minute walk to the Addison red line stop which takes you downtown in under 20 minutes. However, you're in Wrigleyville and there are so many great bars and restaurants near the hostel that are all within walking distance for a great night out. What sold me when looking at their website was the pool table! There's also TV, darts, ping pong and lots of games to keep yourself busy. They have a kitchen that you can use and store your food in. They also provide a free breakfast every morning. There are so many travelers that come in and out of the hostel that you get to meet tons of great people. They have a bar crawl every Thursday night, which most people staying there participate in, and it's a great time! The staff is super friendly and helpful. They keep the rooms clean and tidy for a comfortable stay. I recommend this hostel, it's fun, safe and in a great location! read more

I've stayed in tons of hostels in Europe but this is the first hostel I've stayed in in the US. I was a little nervous because I've heard that they aren't as great over here but Wrigley Hostel was everything I needed it to be and more. First, the location CANNOT be beat. It's like 50 yards from the right field entrance to Wrigley and you can see the scoreboard from the front door. There's a Starbucks like 30 feet away and it's just amazing. I traveled alone and felt safe walking back at night since it's so close to all of the action on Clark Street. The hostel itself is exactly what you would expect if you're staying in a hostel. It's not an upscale hotel, it's a cheap bed to sleep in. And for what you pay it is more than worth it. I stayed in a 4 bed female dorm and it was totally satisfactory. It smelled pretty gross in the room but that wasn't the fault of the hostel but rather the fault of an inconsiderate guest in the room. The thing I will say is that there are only a few bathrooms per floor, but I never had a problem getting in there for a shower or to get ready. One of the nights I was there they had a "party" down stairs which was just watching tv and they gave out free drinks and pizza. Plus there is free breakfast every day. Honestly, for the price and location this place goes above and beyond. They have 24 hour reception if you need anything and it's a well secured place. I'll definitely be staying again when I'm back in Wrigleyville! read more

I lost my keys one night and couldn't get into my apartment- so I decided to stay at Wrigley Hostel. And wow- they mean it when they say "Our home is your home and your home is also ours too." The second I walked in, I was greeted by the best desk person (Jana). She took my coat, my bag, my wallet, my shoes, and even my breath away (thanks!) From then, you're escorted into a small room where they ask you lots of questions: Who are you? How did you find us? Did Harold send you? Are you sure Harold didn't send you? Are you sure?? The hostel is great. There are plenty of rooms and bed space throughout their large building. There are lounge areas for games and work in the basement. They serve waffles, French toast, berries, fruits, and toast for breakfast. There is nothing to complain about when it comes to the Wrigley Hostel. The only issue we had was with another person staying the night in our room, but that's nothing against the company. Keep thos french toasts coming! read more

The main problem with this hostel is the staff. The owner is a young dude who clearly doesn't know how to train people. Literally every staff member gave me and my friends additude when we asked for anything. The woman who works late at night, closed the common areas 40 minutes early because she was annoyed that a large group of us had some cans to clean up. The hostel itself was meh. The pool table and fooseball were both so broken that we couldn't use them. The outdoor deck was the only gem. The location is great however the bars in the vicinity aren't cheap since it's by Wrigley field. Most travelers can't afford $19 meals and $7 light beers. The one thing that made this hostel fun were the folks staying here, this is a party hostel. read more

Yo! shout out to Eata pancake! Thank you so much for your hospitality and good luck in Bangkok! I stayed there Wednesday night when I had to go pick up a van in Chicago. Found this place down the street from Wrigley's. It was really awesome. I was traveling alone...so it was cool to meet people from New Zealand, France, Germany. It was a good value too...I think I paid $30 something for a bed. Got to grab a shower, got to chill and watch an NBA game downstairs. Got to grab a cup of coffee and a pancake in the morning and hit the road. I wish there were more hostels like this Across the Nation. We have them in Colorado too. I remember I stayed at a cool one in Breckenridge. I was driving from Chicago to Denver and when I got to Omaha and starting started asking about where the closest hostel was they just looked at me with a Blank Stare like they didn't know what I was talking about. read more

I have traveled across the globe and have stayed in many a hostel. I was here as part of a bachelor party. Here is what I liked and disliked: Like: - Great location - Rooms are clean - Bathrooms are mostly clean - People are there from all over the world and are there to party - The common area in the basement is nice for pre gaming - Full kitchen on the first floor Dislike: - The staff (aka the owners) treat you like you're on a high school field trip. It strikes me as odd that they advertise the place as a great central hub for your party and then scold you for making any noise when you come home from the bars at 3 am. - No water pressure in the bathrooms - Too many beds per room (I stayed in an 8 person room) - Beds are way too small. I am 6'4", so I get that not everything is made in my size, but my feet shouldn't be hanging off the bed I was vacillating between giving this place a 2, 3, or 4 star review. But the way the staff treated our entire party really upset me. There's a reason we booked at a hostel, and it wasn't to be treated like we were in a hotel. It might behoove the ownership to have someone without a stake in the company work the night shift. read more

This was my first hostel experience and it was definitely a good one. If you're looking for an affordable place to stay this is a great option and I would stay here again. My friends and I got a private room with bunk beds. The neighborhood is lovely. You can walk to a thousand fantastic places for food, drinks, entertainment, or shopping. The hostel was quiet and inviting. Great deck space and common room. The rooms are small but do what they need to do. Plenty of outlets. Now it was one of the first really warm weekends in May when I stayed here so I'm not sure if the a/c just wasn't on yet but it was very warm and muggy. We opened the window in our room overnight and it was comfortable but that would be my main concern in coming back. So if you're visiting in Summer and don't like being warm make sure you ask them while booking what their air situation is. They have wifi and friendly staff. The water pressure in some bathrooms was not great. No other guests bothered me at all but of course a hostel comes with the inconvenience of waiting for the bathroom or shower, or someone leaving trash in the common area sink - etc. So if those kinds of things bother you a hostel may not be the right choice. I feel like the staff here really cares about the place they are maintaining and does a good job at doing little things extra to make it a functional and quality place to stay. read more

First time and last one !! Not really close from dowtown, but close to the wrigley field. Good luck to find the sign with the name, is just so small. I've been in more than 15 hostels in the states and I've never seen a deposit for a towel!!! Seriously?! + $5 deposit for the key! + $10 deposit for a hair dryer, etc. And they ask you to wear a ugly green wristband, so they can let you in at the front door, really?! So PUP is a band that has brought many of my friends and I together lately. They played at Schuba's a few weeks ago, and I had some friends drive in from out of town for the show. I live in the burbs, but do not have enough room to put up 5 other people. Nor did I want to worry about getting myself home after a late show. So, I did some poking around on airbnb, and found this sweet spot in the heart of Wrigleyville. The front desk staff was super friendly and accommodating, and the free breakfast on Saturday morning was a plus. This place is a few hundred feet away from one of my fav Thai places (Cozy Noodle & Rice), and one of the best places to take in a baseball game (Wrigley Field). Great location if you feel like hitting up the nightlife on Clark, and I'd definitely stay here again if I knew I was going to going out in the area and not want to worry about driving home afterward. My *only* complaint- and it's worth noting, since I'm usually a heavy sleeper- is that we stayed in the room right off the kitchen, and it was prone to loud noises and talkers at 6am on a Saturday morning. Seriously, people. Wait an hour or so before you get all revved up. Don't be a dummy. Drop a few dollars here, spend the night meeting some cool people, have a place to rest your bones, and support a cool place. read more

My best friend and I stayed at the hostel for a long weekend in December. We stayed in the 8 bed co-ed room and loved our experience. Not only was in inexpensive and centrally located to the things we wanted to do (I.E. a big strip of bars is the next street over, and we came for her birthday..), but the staff was friendly. Pros: -As previously mentioned, friendly staff. -Great price. -Clean rooms/bathrooms. -Opportunity to meet people from all over (we had a few bunk-mates from Germany, Spain and Hong Kong) -Common area in the basement is a good gathering place(we went out with our roommates both nights, so we'd relax/"pregame" down here before) Cons: -Room temperature. Now this one is a toss up. We came in the dead of winter and our bed was inches from the window. However, when we told the staff about how cold we were, they accommodated us with extra blankets and even a space heater. So I have a hard time marking this as a true "con". That's about it! I would HIGHLY recommend the Wrigley Hostel. We plan on coming back this summer! read more

I stayed for one night (Saturday-Sunday), and I enjoyed my stay immensely. I plan to make weekend trips like this frequently in the future, and I will definitely be staying here for them! Things I liked: - The price ($63.18 for a four bed room). - Everything was clean and new. - The common area was nice, and it was great that drinking was allowed. - The bedroom had everything I needed (bed, easily accessible power strip, lock, etc.) for the night. - Boystown was a 10 minute walk away. - My room was fairly isolated, so it was extremely quiet. Things I didn't like: - I was not aware that you had to either bring your own lock or purchase one to use the lockers. - Unsurprisingly, it was tough to find an open shower close to check-out. There are about six rooms per floor, each with 1-8 people in them, and only two showers per floor. (I will say that the shower I did eventually find in the basement was super nice.) - The bedroom was stiflingly hot. There was a window AC; however, it was not plugged in for some reason, and I was a little afraid of plugging it in to a power strip. As I had less than three hours to sleep by the time I got in, I didn't want to ask anyone about the AC. If I had, I suspect the problem could have been straightened out easily, so I can't really hold this issue against the hostel. read more

I flew into town for the night to catch a concert at the Riviera Theater. I've never stayed at a Hostel before and this was the best first experience. The staff is super friendly. The entire place is super clean. It's so close to everything, within walking distance of Wrigley Field, amazing food places, and good entertainment. They offer free breakfast. Linens and towels were included which was great. They have toiletries for sale if you forget any. They answer any questions you have and are very welcoming. The kitchens are amazing and the outside area is really pretty as well. The front door is a combo key so you can come and go as you want. The quiet hours are super reasonable as well. I loved everything about my stay. read more

This is a great place if you want to be near to Wrigley. However, if this place really wanted to execute the concept they should hire an architect, gut the place and start over. Of course, the rates would reflect the increase investment. They cram in a lot into small spaces. The bunks also need to be upgraded. If you are over 40 and expect ANY amenities look elsewhere. This hostel provided the worst possible experience for my fiancé of any place ever. They promised to make it right when he left and almost 2 months later ignored us and have done nothing. I booked this hostel for my fiance when I got him a ticket to see Billy Joel in July. My fiance is a wounded warrior with a brain injury and other physical and mental disabilities. He had just been through the sudden passing of his grandma from cancer, had to fly from Japan to Pennsylvania for her funeral, and I had surprised him with concert tickets on his way home to cheer him up. I wanted everything to be perfect, and we have stayed in hostels before and realized that a top bunk is not safe for my fiance as he gets balance issues and has bad knees from being hit by an IED in Afghanistan. So, I called ahead and explained this to the owner, who was very nice and said no problem, he would make a note and be sure a bottom bunk was available. My fiance arrived and was exhausted. He went to check in and the woman at the counter told him unless he had something other than his military ID (which is federally issued legal ID) he could not stay there. She also took that ID from him after making him show his drivers license and kept it as a "key deposit" saying he could not have a key otherwise and that she couldnt take the normal $5 deposit by card. His ID functions as his medical ID in case of emergency and he was very uncomfortable not having it on him but he didnt want to have nowhere to sleep. The lady was being rude to him and had an attitude about his military ID. Then, she took him to a room. Despite him explaining that he was a disabled combat vet and he had talked to the owner who made a note about a bottom bunk, she assigned him to a top bunk. He refused it, again saying he was disabled. She said "well you dont look disabled to me" and walked away. Only after further complaints did he finally get assigned a lower bunk. When he came back from the concert, she still was being rude and did not want to provide him with his military ID. He then chose at 1am, exhausted, to get his ID, give the key back and go straight to OHare rather than stay at this hostel. He spoke to the owner that day and explained the situation (including that the employee seemed hostile that he was a veteran after she pointed out that she was Muslim (to which he pointed out his job was to defend all Americans including her and what did that have to do with anything), and that she made him feel like a bother and a fake by treating him like she was and saying "he didnt look disabled" and refusing him an accommodation and stating that his military Id was invalid. The owner on the phone apologized for the situation and promised a full refund, to call my fiance in 48 hours after he checked into the situation and said he would most likely let the employee go. He never contacted us even after I reached out twice, and no refund was given. It angers me that a place I trusted to be a fun welcoming comfortable environment for my fiance during the only nice evening he had in what was otherwise a terrible week, ended up causing him so much anxiety that he left for the airport rather than sleep there after he already had not slept in 48 hours. And that this place feels so disrespectfully about military, veterans and disabled people that they cant even attempt to make terrible, disrepectful service right. read more

I stayed here 1 night (June 25, 2014) and paid $32 for the 8 bed female dorm. I did have a problem when I checked in. I had booked the female dorm but I was accidentally put into a co-ed dorm so imagine my surprise when I came back from eating and found a guy in the bunk across from me. The staff happily obliged my request to be moved to an all female dorm though, so no harm done. The staff were actually very nice. I had sprained my wrist really badly in a previous city I was visiting and had a cast on so I couldn't carry my luggage very well but the staff helped. They also gave me duct tape and plastic wrap so I could take a shower. read more

When we got there, were told parking is Available anywhere in the whole neighborhood. We felt very misguided on there representation. This is not a place for mobility challenged individuals. read more
