Great location with free parking. Very clean and comfortable rooms. Except for the occasional traffic noises, it was pretty quiet at night. Our room was lower level, and in the mornings doors started banging open and closed. I was awake anyway, so no problem. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Easy access to parking, and I liked that though our rooms were on ground level, each hallway had a locked access door. I never felt a moment's unease there. Close to good restaurants and sights to see. Close to public transport. read more

Very good budget motel with on-site parking available for $39 a night. A free breakfast item was included from the on-site Schneider Deli, one of the best Jewish delis in Chicago. My first-floor room was compact, clean, and well-laid out. A mini-fridge, microwave, and safe are included in every room. Everything in the room and the bathroom worked! This can be a noisy location, so I would recommend bring earplugs. The temperature is centrally controlled, and a few times my room seemed stuffy and a bit overheated. Daily housekeeping is included. All of the staff that I interacted with were professional, friendly, and helpful. I will be returning to the Ohio House Motel again in April 2026. read more

This is a decent place to stay in downtown Chicago. After the first night we stayed there, I was in kind of a mood. It really was noisy. The doors to the units slam super loud, and there is a huge gap under the door. I ended up stuffing a towel in that. But then the next 2 nights i hardly noticed the noise. You can't control the thermostat in the room and it was a little warmer than I would have liked, with not very good air circulation. But it was unseasonably warm in Chicago so that might not otherwise be a problem. There is a deli attached and if you book your hotel stay directly through the hotel, you get coupons for free breakfast (deli is closed Sunday and Monday though). The hotel staff said they will price-match other booking sites so I would definitely recommend that. Rooms were clean. Ours had a microwave, fridge, and coffeemaker. Also a safe, iron/board, and hair dryer. Rooms are pretty small, bathroom is small with very limited space to hang towels and keep your toiletries, so try not to get mixed up. read more

Clean room, however the motel itself was extremely loud. Every door slams and echoes throughout your room and the walls are thin. Housekeeping comes and knocks on the door at 9am until you open it and say if you need service and with all the rooms close together you hear that from about 8:45-checkout. read more

We loved our stay here! It was the perfect location which allowed us to walk around downtown. The exterior is very retro and stands out from its surroundings which we thought was cool. The room was clean and we loved that the extra curtains made the room darker. We booked our stay here because it includes microwave, fridge, lockbox and even an ironing board. Very equipped compared to what you pay elsewhere. The only concern we had was parking since it's not promised but we got lucky the one time we used our car during our stay. Definitely recommend walking or public transportation in general. read more

Ohio House: sure! It was great in 2018, but I'm not sure about now or beyond. Take my words with many grains of salt, but don't blame me for high blood pressure. In 2018, it was a good value for being in River North and it included free parking in their lot, which was cool. The room was small, but clean and comfortable. We all enjoyed it and we didn't die trying to enjoy it either. Hooray. Staff were nice all around as well. I think that they also had free coffee in their office (which resembled a toll booth), but I never bothered to get any. Because it's basically in downtown, it's noisy. On the first morning nearly every big-city cliche sound could be heard: dogs barking, sirens, road construction (jackhammer!), cars and honking. That's the downside. Or maybe the upside, if you're playing City Noise Bingo. It seems like The Ohio House shouldn't be there, so please take the initiative to stay here before it gets razed (hopefully not a possibility, but the future is always hazy) and turned into something more efficient, such as a corporate high rise, and very likely more horrible and more expensive. read more

We booked a two bed motel room very last minute. Our overall stay was great but read the reviews before you book so you know what you're getting yourself into!! Room: beds were more like full size, the pillows/bed was very stiff so we did not sleep that great during our stay. It had a great bathroom set up (clean, modern). The room also had a safe, microwave and iron. MAJOR CON -- you cannot control the temperature of your room and you have to call the front desk every time you want to turn it down. Even with calling so often, our room was not as cool as we needed it to be. This is literally the only reason why I am taking a star off. In addition, there was a morning where loud maintenance with tools was being conducted on the window of our room at 9 am. I did not think that was very thoughtful of them, especially because that was the thing that woke us all up that morning. They really could have waited until at least 12 pm. Parking: it is first come first serve. There has to be a spot open for you to park your car. The area is gated but there is not actually a gate that closes so it is open access to anyone. We were also allowed to keep our car parked until 1 pm the day of check out so if you want to check out and grab a bite to eat and then come back, you are allowed to :) they also tagged our bags while we went out so we didn't have to leave it in the car. Amenities: no breakfast unless you pay a fee in the morning, there is not really a lounge area. The front desk is in a separate building and they have to buzz you in/out. They did let us use the one bathroom upstairs on our way out. Location: pretty ideal. Maybe a 20-25 minute average to the main attractions around Chicago. I didn't mind this at all especially since there was parking included here. It felt safe enough at night to walk around as well. There was a target right next door (so convenient and things will not be over priced here) and a large McDonald's across the street! read more

Struggling on 3 or 4 stars with Ohio House Motel. For a recent road-trip (Chicago to Detroit to Philly) I needed a hotel/motel offering on-site parking to ensure the safety of my rental car. It's hard to find this in Chicago, unless you want to pay a few hundred extra, so when I stumbled upon this place in the location it was with on-site parking and at a very reasonable rate; I booked right away! So first things first. Yes, on-site parking IS available.... IF you are lucky enough to get a spot on time. Parking IS NOT guaranteed, and they have a sign stating that fact; people park like a-holes in an already super small, super tight lot. I found a space and didn't move my car once in the 3 days I was there for fear of losing the spot, which is unfortunate as I would've liked to have explored more of the city that wasn't within walking distance or wouldn't cost an arm and a leg using Lyft or Uber. Second, the queen-size mattress was ok; not super cozy, but not the worst I've slept on. The pillows were CRAP, and the bedding was alright. The room was very clean and offered up a mini-fridge, microwave, and safe. The decor was fairly modern and looked to be relatively new'ish. The bathroom was small and a bit awkward with barely any storage space. The bathroom sink never gave me hot water, only lukewarm, however; the shower was fine. Room temperature cannot be controlled within the room so if you want it hotter (or cooler in my case) you have to call the front desk to request hotter or cooler. I requested my room to be cooler twice, and it remained warm and stuffy until the clerk said she'd put the A/C on which guess what??? It did nothing. I was able to open up the sliding windows for cool, fresh air, but being on the ground floor was concerning for safety reasons. The location is AWESOME and within walking distance of downtown, but beware... with the location comes the street noise, especially if on the weekend, which means car and pedestrian traffic until 2 a.m. Also, a huge downfall is that you can hear everything in your little section of the motel; there are 4 rooms on each floor in each "quad" so when your neighbors come in and out and the doors slam, it sounds like your door is slamming; not fun. Bring earplugs, or get that white noise blasting on your phone. The setup of this motel is a bit awkward and with Covid-19 in the mix, that means it's 1 person into the front desk building at a time, so you're stuck waiting outside until it's your turn. There isn't a "common" area with vending machines, you're not getting a complimentary breakfast, and if you want ice you also have to go to the front desk building. Also, it appeared they have a rodent (I'm assuming rat) problem as there were traps and bait set throughout the lot and at each end of the walkway. Again, it's a city so this is to be expected and it's likely because the trash cans outside aren't emptied on a frequent basis so the critters come digging for the food that guests throw away. Finally, the customer service was FANTASTIC! read more

Okay, you won't impress anyone by staying at the Ohio House. It's definitely retro and there are a few flaws. Like the HVAC is controlled by the front desk. But the rooms are clean and furnished nicely, the staff is super nice and the location is pretty great considering free parking is included. My husband and I needed to place to stay for a wedding weekend, and the the nearby hotels were going to add up to $800 for lodging and parking. Yeah, I don't think so. I decided to book this hotel while working in the city for a few days. I was excited for free parking but found that the lot was hard to get into, small, and doesn't always have guaranteed spot for you. I was surprised the last day to see that I was charged a fee for parking, with no warning from management. You cannot control the ac/heat from inside of the room so I was left freezing cold my entire stay, even after contacting the front desk about the uncomfortable temperature. You can hear everything from other rooms (doors opening and closing, voices, steps) so it gets pretty loud. You get what you pay for. read more

This place is a great solution for affordable lodging in a great location. The good: Reasonable price with free parking. Clean room, friendly staff, amazing location. The not so good: Very minor things- could hear neighbors, parking lot is snug, bedding was... noisy? Maybe a mattress liner or something? To change the temp you have to call office - but the office was happy to immediately adjust - so while it's awkward, it works. We needed a place to stay coming to Chicago for the first time and this one stuck out and I'll tell you why! First off the rooms were super clean. They are nothing luxurious of course but they had more amenities than some hotels I've been to that were if not the same price more. Rooms had a TV, fridge, microwave, and even a safe! The rooms were not that big but it was enough if you're on vacation. The best thing about this place is the location and parking place. That's TWO best things about this place. You will be in the center of downtown, walking distance to everything Chicago has to offer. Also, the parking spot. If you've ever been to Chicago, parking is GOLD. It will easily cost you a fortune if you are driving around. Most other hotels would charge you 40-70$ just for a parking spot because it does not come with the hotel room. This place offers it for free! You get both for a great price. The only thing negative was that the walls were a bit thin and really can hear some of your neighbors doing the "giggity". I loved this place! It saved our entire trip. After booking literally last minute. It was affordable especially for being in the perfect location downtown Chicago! My husband and I loved our room and the easy access to the hotel made the trip so much better. We could access the pier and shopping all within a half hour walk. Customer service was so great and everyone was nice. They even let us check out late with no extra fee bc I had to go get a new phone because mine got stolen. read more

What a hidden little gem. I read other reviews and people are actually complaining about the noise from outside??? It's Chicago people and this hotel is in the dead center of it. This hotel is only 2 floors so of course you don't hear street noise when you are on the 12 floor of any other hotel. Get a serious grip. The noise wasn't at all distracting. This hotel was great. Rooms small but clean. Fridge and a microwave in rooms. Free parking!!!! Edgar Bran is the GM and he checked me in. Answered any and all questions. Gave me a detailed map and highlighted several things to check out. Offered me an umbrella as well. I would def stay here again as you cannot beat the price, location and free parking. It's a motel - not a hotel. Not sure why previous reviews have their expectations so high. For me - personally it serves its purpose. The room is small, but clean and tidy. The front desk personnel were polite and courteous, they will hold your bags if you check in early while waiting for a room. The best part is the location, it's in the middle of downtown. Walking distance to almost everywhere. Another pro is the FREE parking. If you reserve thru their website you get free breakfast, however, if you reserve thru a third party website - you will get a cheaper rate. The only downside I could think of - is the WiFi , Yes it is FREE....but, but, but.....it was super slow........ It felt like it was the nineties, remember the dial up routers? pros: location to central chicago and public transport, recently refreshed room decor, clean rooms, parking included, neighborhood safe to walk Cons: NOISY..constant.slamming of heavy doors throughout the day and night. And loud street noise. Bring ear plugs. YOU are unable to control the AC!!! You have to call front desk to turn down temp frequently.abd still never got cool to MY PREFERENCE. Which involves the same conversation with the front desk each time. If you stay plan to be warm at night and out of the unit most of the day. We never moved our car out of the lot because many times no open spots -especially at night. Find a spot and park it once you check in. Also inconsistent hot water. I checked out at 5am. Hot tap open full and only tepid water. Most likely they time the hot water temp to peak hours as well. My take away is its a small business struggling to control it operational costs. Which is understandable but they way they go about it is obvious to the customer . For instance you have to go to front desk to get coffee and its a one serve setup in the cheapest presentation. Same with ice machine. They control the a.c. and the hot water. Also was told that they rent parking during the day and after 4 the spots open up so be aware . The good: location, and housekeeping staff was very nice The bad: the noisiest room I've ever stayed in, by far. You are adjacent to an alley, which has early AM and late night dumpster removal for the businesses on that street and constant noise. A jackhammer outside our door awoke us at 6:30 AM on our first morning, so I spoke to the manager, who requested that they stop. The manager dissuaded us from changing rooms, which may have solved most of our problems. In addition, the housekeeping facilities were directly outside the door, so there were always people talking at your doorway. My son was working remotely in the room during the day, so he had difficulty concentrating. We should have insisted on another room. We had pizza leftover from Lou Malnati's, so we placed it in the refrigerator. When we took it out the next day, we realized that the refrigerator was never turned on, so a great pizza was trashed. There are fixes to these problems, but Ohio House did not sound interested. A block wall instead of chain link fence, to reduce noise. Triple paned windows and solid core doors would also be a huge help. For the record, I did let them know that the room was exceptionally noisy, but they attributed it to city noise. I've stayed in every major city in the US on multiple occasions and nothing has been close to this. This motel was not cheap. 4 nights totaled over $1,000. I stayed one additional night at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare. It was gorgeous, with fantastic amenities and was only $98. Next time, I'll stay there for the whole trip and take the L around the city. read more

While not as glamorous as the high rise Chicago hotels, the Ohio House was quaint and the staff made us feel very welcome. We had the pleasure of being in Chicago for the most beautiful week of weather in July 2019. We were in town to help our son move from the north side to the south side of Chicago. Ohio House was perfectly situated for us to do that and collapse from exhaustion each nice in a comfy bed and clean room. It's not fancy, obviously, but the location is amazing and the staff is some of the most friendly I've ever experienced including our visits to much higher end boutiques hotels. We could easily walk to the River, the lake, Millennium Park, Magnificent Mile or catch the train/ Uber anywhere. We ate gloriously because there were millions of choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The parking is tight, but they never flinched and always made it work even if we had to just leave our keys for them to move our vehicle if necessary. We had a big, american truck which wasn't the most ideal but again, they happily accommodated working it out when the lot was full. The first 3 days we were there, it never moved so it really want an issue. Maid service was perfect. The first night it was a little loud outside on a Saturday night with motorcycles racing but the rest of the week we slept soundly. Not sure why motorcycles would be racing between 12-3 AM but this was not something Ohio House could have controlled. Can't say enough about how enjoyable the staff was. You get what you see in the pictures! They're not misleading and it's not a bad deal for the price. However I just enjoy staying in nicer places for a little more. The location is not terrible though especially if you like Mcdonald's since the big one is right across the street and open late! I visited the city with friends and we stayed here for the weekend. I don't think I would've stayed any longer. They did have a good breakfast included though so I would recommend the place for short visits or if you're just passing through! I personally don't plan on going back anytime soon but I also did not have a negative experience here. Our room was very clean. The bathrooms are very small with limited space so it's hard to share a room with four people so just be conscious of that when booking and you'll have a promising time in Chicago! read more

I recently had a 9-night stay due to construction work in my condo building. The staff couldn't have been nicer - I consider them all my friends now: the manager, the ladies at the desk, the maids. My room was safe and secure - important to a woman - and kept wonderfully clean. The location can't be beat: it is mere steps from everything I needed to do. I was even able to work from my room, using their internet connection. There is plenty of food in the area: Starbucks, McDonalds, even a Circle K with decent pick up and go food, and a Jewel Osco two blocks away, stock the refrigerator and use microwave in my room. I had a very pleasant stay in a very pleasant motel with very friendly and decent people, and at a reasonable rate. What more could anyone want? read more

This hotel is a really great deal in downtown Chicago! I was traveling to Chicago for a conference in February at the Palmer House motel. I'm not enough of a high-roller to actually stay at the Palmer House, so I went in search of lodging in walking distance that doesn't charge $40 - $60 a night for parking. Enter Ohio House Motel, which is walkable to the Palmer House and which includes free parking! You can't even find Airbnbs with included parking anywhere in this part of Chicago for a reasonable price. My expectations were low -- it's a low-end motel, after all -- but the room was clean and comfortable, and there wasn't too much noise. Curtains blocked the light well, and included toiletries were decent. The staff was friendly, and confirmed that we could leave our car parked until 1:00 PM on the day we checked out (even though check out time is 11 AM). The parking lot is small, and I was concerned we wouldn't be able to get a spot. In the middle of winter in the middle of the week, it was no problem, and there were plenty of spots available. If you're driving to Chicago and visiting during peak tourist season, you might want to try to arrive early to snag a spot, and leave your car there for the duration of the stay. read more

Was able to walk to Michigan Ave (Watertower), walked to The Chicago Theater, there's a McDonald across the the street, Walgreens one block over, good restaurants within walking distance Meli, Wilfire, Genos East, Shake Shack to name a few and all between one and four blocks. The Hotel. ......this is a place for you to go sleep. The rooms are small and efficient there's a microwave and fridge which is convenient. The rooms were clean, no mold. I'll always have a soft spot for this motel. My first time in Chicago last fall, I was so rushed I didn't have a chance to book a place to stay before landing, but once I landed I still didn't have a chance, then suddenly it was 3AM and I was by myself on some empty street in Chicago. It was like the opening scene to some crime show. You know the scenes where someone usually dies. I called a Lift and told them to find me the nearest Best Western. They did, but when I got there, the place was full for the night. Er, morning. So I walked outside, looked across the street and found The Ohio Motel. And they had a room! Right above the check-in office, which meant I shared a wall with no one and unlimited coffee was only downstairs. That's how I got there,which I do not recommend repeating. I found the motel itself surprisingly clean and professional. My bed was comfortable and everything in my room in good shape. The view looked out across a few blocks and was great for appreciating a little of the city-scape, which I liked. The staff were always courteous and respectful, even offering recommendations and directions when I asked. Maybe the best thing about this particular motel, however, is the location. Not having a car to driven around with, I found myself in walkable distance from a great deal of central Chicago attractions. I could reach the river in 10-15 minutes and several parks and museums within 35. As someone who likes to explore by foot, I could not have picked a better location to stay. All things considered, it was also surprisingly affordable for being where it was. While it doesn't come with some perks that a hotel might offer, it was clean and professional, and the location and price couldn't be beat. I'll be here again the next time I visit. I'll just be sure to get there before 0'dark thirty. read more

Location location location! That's the reason I stayed here. Oh plus the free parking! Cons: -stains on sheets, luckily I had extra blankets. -Although we had a non-smoking room it still smelled like a smoker rolled around in the room. -our shower drain was clogged so the water took all night to drain ( I'm pretty positive that I saw hair and junk in the drain) -no coffee maker, it was only available in the check in office which is across the parking lot. Overall: you can't beat the price for location and free parking but if you're like me and you enjoy a coffee maker in your room and clean sheets with out stains, maybe this isn't the place for you? read more

No frills hotel smack dab in the middle of the city with a small free parking lot which makes things alot easier. There is none to very limited meter parking and pricey valet parking. Close to eateries such as Lou minatis and portillos and not too far from great Chicago sites such as the Cloud. Again it's a no frills hotel, dated, lumpy beds, small room, we had plumbing issues our first night, but got transferred to another room, heat and air is controlled by the front desk. If you want to save a few bucks, be centrally located and are ok with basic accomodations, go for it. read more

Price (Booked 5 months in advance and got the room for only $98/night. It's currently $300 a night) 3. Edgar (the GM) and the staff are extremely friendly, polite, and their customer service is by far outstanding. Customer Service goes a LONG WAY. 4. Free parking (First come first serve. Overnight parking in the city is $20 and up) 5. Free Wi-Fi CONS: Not as up to date as the other hotels, could be a little bit cleaner, but it's not bad. That's really it.
