So much history along the Missouri River and at this particular spot it meets the Yellow Stone River. The center holds artifacts found in the area and explains how important this area was at the time for the fur trade. There's also many picturesque locations along the trails you can take. You can bring a picnic sit at the picnic area next to the center. I am sad to say I took pictures of the Buford Fort area but I did not get out. The mosquitos were just relentless here so if you come here bring mosquitos spray. I must say also that the signage for Fort Buford could use some refreshing. Note: there is primitive camping sites and the Fort also has a cemetery that soldiers are still resting there. Lovely to visit that as well.

The Fort Union Trading Post sits right on the boundary line between North Dakota and Montana…read more You'll actually cross back and forth over the line as you enter and leave the Post. In the 1800s Fort Union was alongside the Missouri River and steamboats were a common sight. But the River has changed course since those days and now flows about a mile further away. It's easy to see the old, dry riverbed right next to the Fort. This is an out of the way historical site. It's quiet and peaceful and here you'll hear the whispering of the North Dakota winds. For us Fort Union is very evocative of the early days of the frontier, and WELL WORTH A VISIT.

Definitely worthwhile to take the timeto visit this out of the way spot and visualize the Native Americans and the Lewis and Clark Expedition passing through.

Aunts and uncles have pictures in the High School Senior Picture collection. Interesting small rooms display the collection of period artifacts from the early robust Lambert economy. Children and adults alike can enjoy this small, free museum.

It was beautiful and I'm not really sure who or what organization is taking care of this site but it was clean and well maintained! The only thing to watch is: Deer Flies and Horse flies (Tabanidae) You need to have a plan and proper protection for these flies. If you are around the area, I highly recommend a short stop and appreciate the beauty of the site! We stopped here a few years ago and there's been quite a bit of development since then. There's now…read morea campground, an upper and lower parking area, lots of informational signage & still plenty of mosquito swarms on both sides of the Yellowstone River. We were greeted by a small female cat, who introduced us to a young male cat that was also hiding, then she headed back into the fields & he stayed with us the entire time. I'm guessing they were from the farm nearby as several other cats were policing the field (and avoided us) & these 2 were clearly well-socialized & well-fed. We stayed about 3hrs, crossed the not in use bridge to the dismay of the cat - who walked with us but complained the entire way about it. We got some drone footage from both sides and (obliviously) played with the cat (who I called King French Toast). We didn't go into the tunnel this time and we fed the skeeters well during our trek.
