Normally I would find this worthy of some sort of snarky comment but I actually enjoyed dropping off the paperwork for my taxes and then grabbing some ice cream, getting my nails done and tanning. I think all tax offices would be more fun if they were located amongst ice cream shops, nail businesses and tanning salons (is purchasing ice cream, tanning and getting your nails done tax deductible?). Stafford Accounting & Tax Services have been doing our taxes for four years. They figure our numbers out so we get money back. When I do my own taxes, I always seemed to owe money. I like having someone who knows the ins and outs of the tax code take care of it to maximize my return. The fee, which is a little over a hundred dollars, beats paying more to the IRS. For the previous three years, we did our taxes with them via email. Stafford offers that option. This year we decided to visit the actual office. In order to do so, we signed up for an appointment (easily done on their website). I assumed they would prepare our taxes while we waited. But that is totally wrong. What actually happens is they take your paperwork, ask you any questions about the forms you brought in, make sure you didn't forget to include anything and then inform you that you will have your taxes returned, via email, in a few days. Tell me why did I come to the office? Oh, that's right, for the ice cream, tanning and nails. I would say an appointment is not necessary unless you have a complicated tax return or you have some questions. Otherwise, contact them, get your foot in the door and then just send your paperwork through email. Mark Stafford and Josh Peasall, the brains behind Stafford Accounting & Tax Services, make taxes easy. They are also very easygoing and personable when you meet them which, again, makes taxes sort of fun. I definitely recommend giving them a shot. At the very least, you'll get a Christmas card out of it (yes, they are nice enough to send us a card each year).
