I have driven many many different kinds of cars but I will always come home to a GM. Like GM, I am also a channel 7 person. If the news is on in my house, it's tuned to Channel 7. In the 70's when I was earning my stripes, I didn't watch the news. I was too busy doing other things. But suddenly when I grew up, I followed my Dad's lead and kept the box on 7. Bill Bonds. The last word in this city's news ruled for more years than I care to remember. I can say that he never disappointed me. The interviews were great with the same questions I would ask but would never have the cojones to ask. He talked to everyone from the President to the Mayor, and everyone in between; if they made news, they talked to Bill. Bill went away but I Will always hold him in high esteem because he set the bar high, and dare I say unreachable by anyone in the news game today. I can go on about Robbie, Diana and Doris. I don't need to. They speak for themselves as being part of the elite that is channel 7. The old guard has retired. Now there are new names, just as excellent as the people of the past. Alicia Smith, Keenan Smith, Chris Edwards are not as well known as the people of the past, but as it has been said, the cream always rises. As time passes they will fill the shoes of those that preceeded them. Mark my words.

This is a really cool place to come to if you're a citizen in Ann Arbor…read more They have courses here that you can do for free if you are working with a nonprofit. I am doing some documentary work for a nonprofit and will be taking classes here so I will be able to learn how to film, produce and edit film productions with the nonprofit I'm working with and have the programs I produce seen on the community television network once every three months. This is a great to come to work, learn and grow. It also offers classes to those who are members of the Ann Arbor community to do the same thing. The people that work here are very kind and generous and I'd recommend it to any of the active members of the Ann Arbor community and those working in the nonprofit arena.

After moving to Michigan one of my friends told me about the Community Television Network and their free workshops to Ann Arbor residents and non-profits. They require you to take a preview workshop (which is offered every few months) after which they let you take any other workshops. After completing the iMovie workshop I was certified to use editing rooms. The staff was incredibly friendly especially Alysha and I learned alot about the basics of iMovie editing. In the future I plan on taking the JVC Remote Camera and Final Cut Pro x editing class so I can film and edit my own Hi-Def shows. I recommend CTN to all Ann Arbor residents who are interested in getting started with filming, editing, and all aspects of digital media.

The Good Day Detroit show is a joke and rather than fix it, they extended it for an hour…read more They always have technical issues with sound and show the wrong headings to the stories. The cast is goofy and unprofessional. It is like watching some terrible SNL skit when the Weather Boys do those segments. Marielle has always been about herself and stupid celebrities, so adding her to Deana and Ryan at 9am is brutal. Deana seems like a nice person, although rather bossy, however listening to her stumble on her words and watching her talk with her hands excessively is just too much. She also needs to stay out of her daughters closet, since some things are just too short for her age. Ryan just talks way too loud period! They are always playing with the sound for him creating an echo and who wants to hear him yelling "goooood morning" at 9am. He looks like he is always laughing when he talks and is just about sports; nothing else intelligent to say. It would also be nice to be able to watch the weather without having to turn up the volume because Lori is whispering. It is also difficult to concentrate on the weather when the meteorologist is dressed like a circus clown. Worst whoredrobe ever! And the style guy, seriously! No Caucasian straight man would ever dress like that. It is obvious that this show is no longer targeting my demographic. It has become the value menu of newscasts!!!

Continuing my series of FM radio station reviews I come to my favorite radio station- 89.9, CBE-FM…read more I attempted to give it its own Yelp listing but Yelp's corporate overlords must have stricken it from the record. See, Windsor CBC TV and radio operate out of the same physical address and so Yelp considers them one and the same - even though I discovered there's two listings for WCSX since some genius considers "Classic Rock" to be a part of the official name. I don't have a broadcast TV and might catch a bit of CBC TV out at my parents condo. I used to prefer their Olympic coverage and aren't much of a hockey fan but definitely prefer them over US coverage. But consider this exclusively a review of 89.9 FM and not the TV station 9 nor the other Windsor CBC radio station which is all talk. (Two public radio stations, one music and one talk! How much better WDET would be if it could branch out like that!) 89.9 is the number one preset in my Jeep and it was in my Ford Freestyle before that and my Ford Explorer before that. I've never heard the Replacements song Left of the Dial on CBE but it definitely captures that spirit with the music they play. Every year I make a huge Spotify playlist featuring music I discovered that year and a hefty amount comes from stuff I hear on 89.9. I often find myself using the Google search a song feature in the ride as music plays that piques my curiosity. The DJs on here have started to feel like old friends and they all seem to have the coolest sounding names: Saroja Coelho, Julie Nesrallah, Odario Williams, Rich Terfry, Angeline Tetteh-Wayoe, Laila Biali, Errol Nazareth and George Stroumboulopoulus, to name a few. I had to look up those spellings, especially Strombo whose full name isn't often used for obvious reasons. The news guy who comes on briefly at the top of the hour has a totally normal sounding name though - Tom Harrington. I find that funny and fitting. Strombo's Sunday night show is great. Different genres, no algorithm though there's always an interview around 9:30, a track or two from Tom Waits at ten and the last hour from 11 on focuses on metal and punk. Laila Biali plays jazz, Errol Nazareth plays world music and Odario plays chill alternative - great nighttime music. I still miss Laurie Brown whose spot he took, a little, but I've grown to appreciate Odario more and more. And the wonderful Ms. Angeline Tetteh-Wayoe has replaced the retired Laurie Brown as my radio crush. I could listen to the smooth, honeyed tones of Ms. Angeline Tetteh-Wayoe's voice all night, even if the show she hosts, The Block, is only on for a couple of hours. She plays urban music from the 60s and even older to present day. I started following her on social media and she sometimes reposts my Instagram stories videos of me driving with The Block bumping. Be still my beating heart! And I never tire of saying that name - Ms. Angeline Tetteh-Wayoe! Friday nights CBC does an hour long deep dive into a classic album with stories about its creation interspersed between the songs. It's Rich Terfry who usually hosts that. Any day, any time I flip on 89.9 there's likely to be something good on and if there's not I got other presets and I can check back in a little bit. It's pretty much knocked WDET out of the box although I still listen to 101.9 some here and there.
