The selection was pretty picked over (we arrived in late Saturday morning--so get there earlier) but the boston cream and the cinnamon balls (I'm sure they have a real name but no idea what it is) were delightful. 2.5 Stars. The quality is there when they're fresh. It's a fun place to go. What sucks is they seem to fluctuate what is and isn't available. Nothing like taking an order for the family only to show up and 1/2 of the normal menu isn't available. Best donuts I've ever had! The fruit filled ones are awesome but my favorite is just a regular spudnut with maple frosting! They've captured the ever fleeting balance between dense and fluffy and are always cooked to perfection. My wife's family lives about 30 min from Spudnuts, and I don't think twice about driving that far for these donuts when we go to visit! Anticipate a bit of a wait but it will be worth it. This is a must stop kind of place if you're anywhere even close to the area! read more

A must do while in Okoboji!! These donuts are to die for!! Served warm and freshly made, they are generous in size and the choices of toppings are outstanding and done right in front of you. Maple Bacon is my favorite, however, I do like a bag of donut holes. The owner is always there with a smile on his face even though the crowd of people waiting for these donuts can almost seem unmanageable. Updated June 2017: Folks in the area have definitely caught on. Today (Sunday around 9 am) the line was out the door - almost to the sidewalk. I figured since they ONLY do donuts, it would go quickly... but it was a 45 min wait for donuts! And they were out of anything cinnamon (yesterday they were closed bc they were out of flour). If you have the time and don't mind waiting, the donuts really are hot and delicious. However, I'd suggest coming after 10:30/11 on the weekends if you don't have the extra time to spare. The people that work there are still not friendly which was very noticeable when we first started coming last year. From September 2016: Great donuts (not great service). A cool little garage renovated into a little donut & coffee shop. The donuts are legit. Honestly I've never had donuts this thick and fresh - they are literally frying them right in front of you. When it comes to donuts, I'm a traditional kinda gal so I stuck to the plain glazed but you can pick out toppings (maple, vanilla, etc) that they will add fresh when you order. We haven't tried the coffee yet so I can't speak to that. I believe it is all self-serve though (pump black coffee yourself - no lattes or fun drinks). My only complaint is that they don't seem very customer-focused. The two or three times we've been there, they have not only been "not friendly" but honestly kind of rude. And what coffee shop doesn't offer wi-fi? They don't even have a garbage can in their outdoor seating area. They are also only open till noon (although last time I DID see them let a family in and out a few minutes after - which I was shocked about because they seem to be sticklers about everything else - and closed their doors at 11:59). They give the vibe like it's not much of a hang-out... Unlike Arnolds Perk which also serves Spud Nutz donuts and is a WAY better place to hang out. But I guess who cares when the donuts are this good?! read more

A wide variety of doughnuts you can choose from at the counter, but I specifically recommend the strawberry-filled or maple-glazed.
