I have been taking classes at X-Treme Pilates since 2013. What a wonderful team of instructors! The studio is gorgeous, always clean, and equipment is very well maintained. All of the instructors really focus on mind/body integration and working specific muscles, both small and large. Some instructors focus on form and technique more than others. Julie is AMAZING. I am an instructor-to-be, with certifications through Balanced Body, but once before have I found an instructor as knowledgeable as Julie. My body completely changed in the few weeks I regularly took classes this summer, and after returning to Boston for school, I miss the workouts so much. The classes push your muscles more than you thought was possible, but after only a few classes, your body begins to change dramatically. Her knowledge of anatomy is inspiring and each exercise is very specific in how she wants it to be done, so she pays close attention to each client to make sure everyone is developing proper form. Started attending X-Treme Pilates classes in May to maintain my fitness level after dealing with severe Sciatica / lower back issues caused by a ruptured disc. Have been extremely pleased with every experience in the studio thus far. Instructors Chrissa and Renee both do a great job leading their classes, which are chalenging and fun. No two classes are ever the same and it always seems like they're pulling another trick out of their hats with new exercies and progressions on the Reformer. This place is amazing. My favorite instructors are Renee and Chrissa. Renee is an amazing individual. She really cares for you, always makes sure to give less and more challenging alternatives and is very encouraging overall. I'm a very petite size, and always wanted to do more strength training to gain muscle. It's always been difficult for me to go to the gym or even work out because I do not want to lose weight. This place has been perfect for me. I notice myself having more muscle and better posture (which is a problem I have had for years). You will not regret taking classes here. It is not as easy as it looks and it really works out your ENTIRE body. Cassidy is good as well but she kicks you butt. She is more focused on planks and the core which is my weakness so I'm always VERY challenged in her classes. Chrissa is a sweetheart too and her classes are challenging as well, but she has a great beginners class which is still difficult but at least she goes a little slower. Renee is my favorite. Her workouts are perfect, not too easy not too hard, and there's always an alternative she offers. She is always engaged with you and the entire class and always encourages you in some way. I've been going consistently for about 6 months now. Even though it is a little expensive for me, it's one of the best investments I have made in my health! :) read more

I've been trying to get back into some sort of workout for a long time and haven't been motivated to make anything regular since I stopped running a few years ago. I bought a Groupon deal to try out a reformer pilates class for the first time and I love it! Since using up my Groupon classes, I've continued with about 2 classes per week. I love it so much that I'm planning to do 3 classes per week starting next month. I've taken classes with Chrissa, Antony and Renee and each have been great! Also, I've had a few problems with the registering into classes online and was mistakenly charged a fee for a class I attended. Every time I've called to get my issue addressed, the response has been immediate and the person on the other end has responded graciously. read more

Teacher are great, BUT don't get stuck in the punching of class plans. I once again want to stay the teachers and studio are a 5 star group, BUT. I signed up with my daughter planning on sharing a 5 pack after my intro plan and when she finished her groupon of 3 classes, but boy did I get an eye opener which has caused me to have to purchase more addition classes since we can't share a pack even since she is my daughter. I will finish out my sessions with my head held high cause I really like the instructors, but I hate to say I most like will have to find a place that allows us to share packages, I really was hoping to have this as a mom and daughter time. They said the program MINDBODY won't allow them to do sharing of packages but I know from my spin class that uses MINDBODY they do allow and have the way to allow family members to share. BUT I am not totally sure with X-Treme plan. I am so sorry that we can't figure something out. Maybe Julie can try and fix things for me. Have a great day , Now go do a Pilates class. Anyone looking to try Pilates - I beg you to try this studio! A gym rat my entire adult life, since working out at this studio I have toned muscles I never knew existed. I thought I knew what "Pilates" was, having done mat Pilates at the gym - boy was I wrong! This practice is so precise, and the instructors so skilled and knowledgeable (Julie is the best!!) that I was able to reshape my body in six months. The classes are challenging, yet soothing and gentle. It's done wonders for my flexibility, which in turn improved my running, and the best news of all....I grew 3/4 of an inch! Yes, it's true (I had the nurse measure me twice!). By decompressing and lengthening my spine, at 49 years old I experienced a growth spurt:) I have never felt better - so if you're thinking about it, please give it a try. read more

They keep explaining every exercise and make sure everybody in the class does it the right way so they can benefit from it. I've been taking pilates classes for over 10 years now and have been a member of another studio as well, but haven't received the same kind of attention. I found X-Treme Pilates on a Groupon deal a few months ago. I was doing Bar Method for a couple of years to complement my cardio routines but was looking for something new as I was starting to get bored. I had never even heard of reformer pilates but I love the area of La Canada Flintridge (nearby to where I live) and I thought I might as well give it a try... I am now a regular. This workout is amazing for a number of reasons and this is b/c of the owner Julie. She is a fantastic person- so helpful, knowledgeable and kind. Bonus: she dances in class sometimes, which is hilarious but she CAN dance! :-) The best part about this workout is that EVERY workout routine is different. In Bar Method, I always knew what was coming next = boring. Plus, with the same movements, I was no longer seeing results. Here, you never know what you are going to get but you are guaranteed an effective workout that targets areas which are typically not easy to reach (thanks to the reformer machine). Also, this place is really clean and the equipment is top-notch. The other instructors are amazing too. I have to give a nod to Ricky; his class is really tough and I appreciate that b/c I like to push myself. I am ALWAYS sore the day after. Bonus: he sings in class and has a great voice :-) Doreen is also one of my favorites with her kick-a$$ routines! But ALL of the instructors are extremely knowledgeable about this type of workout and helpful during classes. I now do the full body class 4x/week combined with cardio on the "off" days. If you buy a package, you can get a great deal. Another option is the techniques class, if you wish to go at a slower pace. Seeing results and loving it. Thanks, XTP! read more

I've been going to X-Treme Pilates since it opened, and it's made an incredible difference in my physical and emotional well-being. Julie is an amazing teacher. She pays equal attention to each student in class, and no matter what your ability is, you'll feel encouraged and empowered. My posture has always been an issue, from childhood. I have had some serious and wonderful ballet training, followed by some years of sitting on my butt . As a result of that combination, my posture was unbelievably bad, and my back was starting to hurt every day. After receiving a credible referral and reading a ton of reviews I decided that X-Treme Pilates was probably the best option. Boy, was this the right choice! Julie quietly analysed my posture and understood very quickly where to start. She is a joyful, gifted instructor and a whole lot of fun to be around. I'm struck by how she slowly and methodically is correcting things that were a problem in elementary school - and I am in my sixties! Have been doing this workout now for about 5 months. It is THE BEST!!! When I lost 30+ lbs, last year I looked for a workout program which would help me comfortably maintain my new fit 50+ body and offer more of a physical challenge. This is the perfect workout!!! It works you REALLY HARD but doesn't endanger joints. My core has never been this strong! Plus, most instructors rate an A+!!!. Julie is beyond fabulous...a proverbial " Pilates Phd." if you will!! And Marivi is right up there with her!! One piece of advice....take the Techniques Class before you jump into the Full Body workout. You will feel much more comfortable with the "lingo" and the equipment as the use of the reformer is very different from the traditional Pilates workout. read more

I haven't exercised for 9 long months... I had my baby last January and finally am able to leave him for an hour to exercise! I decided to try out X-treme pilates and loved it! I am two weeks in and am really enjoying it. I was once a die hard workout person, complete with competing in kickboxing. Years, age, multiple injuries and work stress/schedule, have forced me to find a new fitness challenge. This class is exactly what I need. While I'm a beginner, I have tons to learn, but I'm interested enough to keep trying until I master it. If you're looking for a new way to get into shape, tone and build muscle, combat stress, and be mentally and physically challenged, this is it! I have to admit, so far Renee is my favorite instructor. She's super friendly, very welcoming and patient with beginners, and would rather you move at your own pace, rather than try to keep up with everyone. She guided me when it was necessary, and was very inspirational to me, and also another new student who started on the same day. Renee has awesome energy, and is a great motivator for all. read more

I began practicing at this studio a little over a year ago. When I started, I was also practicing at other studios in the area for variation, however, I decided to focus my training solely to x-treme pilates purely because of three things: 1. Safety.....I received individual attention from the instructors in every class I took ensuring I did not injure myself. 2. Education....I actually learned about my body, it's limits, muscle groups, and what I can push--and teach it to do with a little instruction, dedication and hard work. It is a very "hands on" studio. In fact, if you don't like to be touched---.meaning corrected if your doing the move wrong---this may not be the place for you... 3. Results.....my body changed. Granted I was in fairly good shape to begin with, but these classes refined and sculpted muscle groups. After 2 C-sections X-treme Pilates, three times a week, has strengthened my CORE better than before I ever had my children. I have recommended 3 people to date, who share in my feelings for this studio and the results. All the instructors know the students and are friendly with them. The students know one another too...many of us have practiced together for years now...all deciding this is THE studio for us. I am 36 and I find myself challenged in class by women half my age and double my age...and its wonderful. Such a great energy exists in this place, like no other....camaraderie if you will. Laughter at times, encouragement, teamwork and willpower gets us through Julie or Ricky's classes! That.....and a bit of their dancing! It just feels like home......and reminds me of why I love living in La Canada! This is old fashion neighborly, small town, good business--with great, honest, people. Awesome workout! I've been working out my entire life and have done some hard-core circuit training and weight-lifting/strength training. But I had never done a Reformer Pilates class (only mat Pilates) and decided to give it a shot. I have to say that I was pretty humbled when my muscles started shaking during the first class. I don't care how fit you think you are, Pilates will still kick your butt because it will target your muscles in a whole different way and on a whole different level. I like that it stretches your muscles (which can get very tight and bunched up with weight training) while working them. Also, really like that Pilates highlights any imbalances you have and helps you to correct them. For example, you may not realize how much more weight you tend to put in one leg over the other. This will show up right away because the cables on the Reformer machine work separately and you'll be visibly pulling harder with one leg than the other. I have not tried any other studios and won't either because I really like this one. I've tried every instructor there (I think there are 6) and, with the exception of one that I wasn't too crazy about, had a great workout with all of them. Each instructor has a different style and will do different exercises so it would be my suggestion to try as many as you can in the beginning and see who you click best with. read more
