I subsequently gained over 60 pounds and was unable to work out. Over the last 2 years, I began a process of reclaiming my health and was able to drop about 45 pounds mostly by cleaning up my eating, however, my weight plateaued, and I felt somewhat stuck. After conducting an internet search of area fitness studios, I came upon Zen Fitness, and followed a link at the bottom of their page to Instagram, and there began to find out about Carly. After mulling it over for about 3 months, I took the dive and sent a message to inquire about training packages. I was extremely nervous about being judged, not being able to complete the exercises, and the pressure to sign up for some packages. I knew after my first appointment that I had taken the right step. The gym is clean and is staffed by a community of great people who promote healthy eating (vegan) lifestyle. Carly does a great job at reading non-verbal cues and knows when to push a little bit more as well as knowing when to take a break. I have been in the gym for about 2 months now, he asked me if I noticed any differences and it took me a while to formulate a response. Here is what I know, a lot has changed over the last two months; I am happier, I have more energy, and my body is starting to show definition. Prior to working with the studio, I felt stuck on my journey to get my body back. Now I feel supported, encouraged, and much more highly motivated. He suggested 1 meal a day and a full hour of cardio and a full hour of weight training each day for 6 days each week. This is called overtraining and low blood sugar most of the day. While I agree with his premise of a whole foods plant diet, his assertion that you can eat as much as you want as long as it's a whole plant food is simply not true. You cannot be drinking fruit smoothies and carrot juice all day, nor can you eat pounds of potatoes. He pronounces himself as an authority/expert and his ego is out of control. The fact is you can accomplish the same thing by being in a daily calorie deficit and NOT drinking your calories. Overtraining is not the answer, nor is starving yourself especially if you are older

I'll probably end up starting here when I sign up until I have the courage to go to the bigger location more often. The manager Bo is super friendly, caring, and just an awesome human! My favorite coaches are Brandon, Karah, and Mike. They each are super friendly, encouraging, and caring. Throughout my experience, I have lost weight, gain muscles, gotten faster, lifted heavier, and felt great in my body! The environment is welcoming, the music while working out gets me pumped, and I love that each workout is different and I always have a coach helping me out along the way. I am a regular at OTF University and OTF Butler Plaza. Yesterday (08/06/2020) I ventured over to the Millhopper location for the very first time to use the gym and visit my favorite Coach Cosmo. I had never been to this gym before and sadly had to use a GPS to find it as I never ever go over to that side of town. Once I arrived I parked my car and got in line to workout. The line was pretty long and it was full of new faces I have never seen before. People were very friendly and talkative while waiting in line. Once inside the gym it is a big L Shape with treadmills and rowers on one side of the room and the weight room on the other. It was super nice. I will say this gym is a little smaller than Butler and University, but it is the oldest location in Gainesville and they were able to see the small size and make the other gyms bigger because of this. I highly recommend this gym if you're looking for a great workout.

After 15 years of inactivity I went on a backcountry hiking trip and it did not go well. In my…read moreyouth I hiked the southern portion of the Appalachian Trail, doing about 15 miles a day. On this recent trip an eight mile hike took all day and it felt like I was about to get heat stroke. Heavy breathing, had to take a break every 15 minutes. That was it. I was about 50 pounds overweight, had a poor diet and no clue how to get started. I gave Swamp Fitness a call and met with Jared. We spent an hour and half talking about where I was at physically and emotionally, where I wanted to get to and why, and what I was willing and wanted to do. All these things were important to match me with the right trainer. Do you want to do weights, cardio, gym workouts or work at home? They can accommodate whatever you kind of program you think will work or suggest one that will, and if it doesn't, it can be changed so it does work. I have been working with Jonathan as my trainer. He is great to work with. He has been able to push me when needed and is able to adjust our workouts depending on how good I'm doing that day. Even when I'm not at my best, we still get in a great workout and I leave feeling good about the session. If you don't know where to begin or it has been a while since you have tried to get healthier, I hope you give Swamp Fitness a try. I have lost 40 pounds, but more importantly can now go up the stairs without it being a chore, take a walk without my hands tingling, get out of the chair without having to push myself up with my arms. It is worth doing and I am glad that I did. At this point I have started to work out on my own and have kept up the routine. I'm not going to say I love going to the gym, but some days I really do. I've got Swamp Fitness to thank for that.

No other gym has kept me so motivated and consistent. What it's like: Each day of the week there is a focus- upper body/lower/cardio (although every day really works all three). There is a white board with the daily workout, which is split into a Warm Up, Rounds 1 and 2, and Strength. There are designated class times, but you work at your own pace through the workout. Trainers are on hand to show you how to do each exercise. The workouts are tough and will push you. The atmosphere is lively. There are people at all stages of their fitness journey, including high level athletes. Everyone feels welcomed. Numa plays invigorating music. The music is more family-friendly in the evening 5pm class. It is not cheap, many people may have sticker shock, but to me it is worth the price. The facility, equipment, and staff are top-notch. They offer pricing by the class, a package of classes, or monthly unlimited. They have social media with daily reels if you want to check out what some of the workouts look like!
