Our game master also would not respond or say anything unless we practically yelled at them almost like they were distracted on a phone or something instead of paying attention to what was going on. We have done other rooms with them before which were good but this was by far a horrible experience with them. We also originally wanted a different room which was unavailable due to technical difficulties but was offered and was what we paid for. They should be checking their rooms every morning to make sure that they are all in working order and if they aren't they should not be available to book. Overall just a horrible experience with them.

Unfortunately, the overall experience fell short compared to many other escape rooms we have played. My group has completed every escape room in Charlotte, along with numerous rooms in other states and several overseas, so we have a broad basis for comparison. One of the biggest issues was the size of the rooms. They felt cramped and crowded, and while the advertised capacity may be higher, the rooms seem best suited for two to four players at most. The puzzles were also frustrating at times. Many of the clues felt overly convoluted, and the room lacked a clear sense of progression. Rather than flowing naturally from one puzzle to the next, the challenges often felt disconnected and lacked cohesion. The game management also impacted our experience. We were told that the game masters were monitoring multiple rooms simultaneously, which appeared to contribute to delays. At one point, we successfully completed a piano-based puzzle multiple times, but nothing happened. After repeating it several times, a game master finally noticed and advanced the puzzle. Situations like this can be particularly frustrating when time is limited. Overall, Escapology Charlotte offers attractive themes and creative room designs, but the small room sizes, inconsistent puzzle flow, and game-master oversight issues detracted from the experience. With some refinements, it could be a much stronger escape room destination.

The production value on the Bank Heist was really good - it was fun to work as two teams and connect up along the way to finish the room together. This place is the single coolest escape room we have ever done, and we have done a lot of escape…read morerooms. It is so incredibly immersive and the theming is excellent. We came to do Temple of Light and loved it so much that we came back a week later to do the Sunken Realm. The guides are incredible, they all play their roles so well and with so much character and fun. Owen, who was our guide in the Temple of Light, was so much fun, so in character, and absolutely made the experience for us. Sarah, and the other guide that we had for the Sunken Realm, were also wonderful. They were both very excellent at their roles and really made us feel like we were living the events. Overall, an incredible escape room experience, 10/10 would come again.

Each room had something really neat that set it apart from other escape rooms. The owner talked to us a good bit about what it's like owning an escape room (we've been talking about opening up our own for a while now) and let us see how things work behind the scenes. One of my favorite parts were the game masters... they were teenagers and were a lot of fun. It's nice seeing a business owner hire teenagers who are full of energy and love their jobs. We thought we knew good escape rooms having visited a few impressive ones (and a few not so impressive ones) in Charlotte, but Xscape's Curse of the Mummy room put them all to shame! My husband's family lives in Valdese, just 20 minutes or so from this escape room, and when we were looking for something fun to do with his sister for her birthday, we decided to book at Xscape. They only have the one room right now but are working hard to open a second (involving diffusing a bomb, I'm told) in the coming months. The Curse of the Mummy room incorporates amazing props, immersive "scenery," and incredible technology. Seriously, it's the best room we've ever experienced, hands down. I don't want to give away too much, but will tell you that I'm still emptying sand out of my shoes a couple hours after escaping with just a few minutes to spare. ;)

The room we did was Blackbeard's Cabin. It was difficult enough and challenging. Granted I was with…read morea group of 10 year olds. As far as the room goes, I'd give it a 3.5. It was challenging but it is just the one room. You don't escape into another room like I've done in previous escape rooms. Now let's talk customer service. We came in with a 10year old soccer team for a team building event. When I booked they were very nice and knew we would be coming in. Yes they were excited and loud. However, the staff member could have been nicer about it. Especially towards the children. The staff member checking us in was condescending but pretending to be nice. I could tell they were annoyed with us. Another staff member yelled at one of the parents for taking a pic of their time before they left the room after the game was over. As I was leaving I was looking for my kid, she said I'm here mom to let me know where she was. I told her to not be so loud. Then the staff member said in a condescending way "You know you're inside right?" Other than the interaction with those two staff members the kids had fun. I doubt any of the families will return though due to customer service.
