I can't say enough good things about this place, and the staff! My husband and I travel all over for escape rooms. We spent the entire day at Timed Out, and loved it so much we played all of their rooms. Their rooms are challenging but not impossible. Each room had something really neat that set it apart from other escape rooms. The owner talked to us a good bit about what it's like owning an escape room (we've been talking about opening up our own for a while now) and let us see how things work behind the scenes. One of my favorite parts were the game masters... they were teenagers and were a lot of fun. It's nice seeing a business owner hire teenagers who are full of energy and love their jobs. We came here while in North Carolina, it's located in a strip mall with plenty of parking. We bought our tickets online and when we arrived sign the waivers and we're on our way to our escape room. Maggie was our helper through the experience and she was great. We picked the room Depth, it was a little harder to solve then I thought. Overall it was a great time spent with family!!! read more

My wife and two young adults were in town and decided to try Timed Out Escape. We were not disappointed! We did the "Depth" room and it was so fun! Chris was our game master. He was so nice and helpful. He made the game even more fun! There was a glitch in one aspect of the game (technology right??) and they fixed it while we kept playing. Was not an issue at all. The premise of the game was interesting and the difficulty was just right. We escaped with a few minutes to spare and with our hearts pumping!! We would not hesitate to go back to Timed Out Escape. Chris, was our game master he was very nice and quick with clues. The place was definitely clean and organized. My family really had a great time at Time Out Escape. It was just us, since we have been working our life together for 40 years now we were more confident in our abilities LOL ! No arguments, but our brains were about to explode at the end! SMILE! Timed Out Escape is independently owned & local, but you'd never know from the moment you walk in. Everything feels so polished and professional. This feels like a corporate business. The rooms have incredible attention to detail. No cheap props. And it's the little things: professional videos, an alert tone which matches the theme of each room, and responsive game masters who knows exactly how far along you are in the game. All this is highly appreciated from those who have done many many rooms. This review is for my favorite: Illusion, a magic themed escape room. As I said earlier, lots of attention to detail with all the puzzles themed for magic. (Which by the way, is an escape room theme you don't see that often!) In addition, after doing several hundred escape rooms, we still found unique puzzles not seen before! (We liked their work so much, we came back and did the rest of their rooms a few weeks later. I can happily say that the uniqueness of the puzzles, the immersive set designs and the customer service was maintained across every room!) Timed Out Escape is great for new escape room adventurers & pros alike. The owners clearly love escape rooms themselves and have put lots of work & passion into their business. We've been bored long enough stuck at home and I'm so glad we decided on Timed Out Escape!! This is my first time doing an escape room challenge and with the family. It was myself, my husband and our 3 kids (age 5, 11, 12). We weren't sure how our youngest would handle it but thank goodness we have the best game master ever (THANK YOU MCKENZIE!!). McKenzie was patient and really good at communicating clues, instructing our kids and especially getting our little one involved enough to make our little one feel extra helpful trying to solve the riddles and clues. Turns out our 5 yr old wants to come back soon along with the rest of us!! We all had so much more fun than we had anticipated. This is a great activity to do if you have kids with an age gap like mine's. It's hard to find something to do that they will all enjoy and this one really surpassed our expectation. We had a wonderful time at the escape rooms this past weekend. They were ESPECIALLY accommodating to our family, they opened early just for us the day after Thanksgiving, and let us start both rooms simultaneously so we were able to end at the same time. Our Escapemaster, Ryan, was super helpful and friendly, and although we required a few clues to get out, we felt quite accomplished and capable! My best friend and I have done over 100 escape rooms across Virginia, North Carolina and in Boston. It really has become our thing. We were recommended to come to Timed Out Escape Room and I am really glad that we did. We were able to tackle all three rooms and I'm glad that we did. First and Foremost, Timed Out did an incredible job creating a welcoming environment. Jack Anthony And Victoria (I really Hope I got all of your names right as I lost the cards. I'm the worst. Sorry) our Game Masters were all wonderful, energetic, and really helped make our experience super positive. You can tell this place really envokes a team environment with their staff which makes for such a great time. I can also tell you this place also has a wonderful lobby space of team building, corporate events, parties etc. Onto the rooms; While there is not a room I disliked, there definitely is a different skill level in each of these rooms. West was a great family friendly room. I can see this room being great for escapers of all ages and experience. The room is decorated well, the puzzles make sense, and there are some fun tricks in the room that everyone can have fun with. Illusion was my personal favorite of the three. This room really encapsulated the theme. I've done many magic rooms, but this room really executed cool magic tricks in the room that made this super fun. This room is really non-linear, which makes it really great for larger groups as there is plenty for everyone to do. Also we had a lot of fun with Victoria, our Game Master, in this room and she read us well to be able to have fun with us while we were in the room. Precinct was tough. I'll tell you this room is easy to overthink which makes this room a challenge and is for sure the most difficult of the three. While it definitely put my brain to use, it definitely takes a good amount of talking through and a smidge more awareness of some string to really get through it effectively. This room does have some nice puzzles in it which I also appreciated. Too long, didn't read? Timed out has something for everyone, whether you've done 100 or 0. The staff is great and you won't get a bad host which makes this a positive experience. Each room has its benefits and is handcrafted and made in house, so you aren't getting the corporate cold feel but can tell that those who work there enjoy the rooms and are proud of the awesome products they have put out. If you are in Charlotte I would definitely recommend these rooms. read more

Over the Holidays, I took my family of five with 1 high schooler and two in middle school and did the Western theme escape. Chris was great. The western theme escape was medium rate and I think accurate good for first timers like us (I had done one at work) and we finished with only a few minutes left. Overall, very professional and would recommend the place and would recommend the Western theme escape for families with kids - probably too easy for the more experienced escapers. read more

Visiting family for the holidays and thought this would be a fun family experience. Have done a few escape rooms in the past with other adults and going into the experience had some hesitation about the younger kids having fun. Our group was four kids ranging in age from 5-10 and three adults. Did the "Western" themed room and it was A LOT OF FUN FOR EVERYONE! Adults were able to coach/assist the kiddos and our Game-master Nicole seemed to step in at just the right time with perfect hints/clues. She was great! My boyfriend and I came here to try a new date idea today. We've never had any experience with an escape room before. We arrived to timed out and was told we had to make a reservation prior. After explaining that we had taken a long drive for our experience, Rhiannon, the front desk assistant was able to talk to her manager and was able to accommodate us. We were very appreciative. She made us feel safe and relaxed while receiving our instructions for the escape room in addition to being patient with us as we try to sift through the clues. It is understandable why this business has received so many five star reviews: their customer service is impeccable and their escape rooms are very great. I will definitely be back. We had an excellent time doing the room Depth with our game master Spencer! We were nervous about the room at first since the record for the room was 69:33, but with Spencer's help and rockin' teammates, we were the first team to ever make it out in under an hour! The sets and tech are all done in-house and the production quality is top-notch. Friendly staff, easy booking process, and nice facilities.
