Here are some numbers of what actually happened: 7: number of flights that were cancelled 4: number of flights it took to get back to Anchorage 4th: date I actually got home 2: number of nights I stayed in Juneau 2: number of nights I was without my luggage, once I finally got back into town I got the bags back last night. Alaska Airlines is using BAC to deliver them. (no idea if this is typical, I've never had this done before) All I've really known of BAC before this is that they are slickly dressed in black, and hold signs for people they are waiting for at the airport. I have most commonly seen them unloading luggage out of vans at the more expensive hotels in Anchorage. Your initial question might be: "Andrew, why didn't you just go to the airport and pickup your bags?". Good question, a couple reasons: 1) The airport is an absolutely war-torn jungle right now. The last thing I want to do is go wait in another 45 minute line...or more...and then have to pay for airport parking because Alaska misplaced my bags. 2) After 50 hrs of travel in 4 cities, I had a splitting headache...similar to the one I had when I got my vaccine booster. So I was not going to unnecessarily expose anyone while waiting for results. (Andrew from the future here, it was negative, whew!) Alaska told me my bags would be delivered on the 5th...and they weren't. I called again on the 6th...and they said they were there with a note saying I was going to pick them up? They re-asked for my info, like they did on the 5th, and said they would be delivered at 4pm. 4pm came and went, no bags. At 6:30pm, I got my COVID results back, negative! I went to go get Pho to celebrate. Still no bags. I thought I was probably going to have to nag Alaska Airlines again. (this time I would just go get them myself) As I was leaving the Pho place (Phonatik, my favorite), I saw 3 missed calls. (my phone is on silent when I'm dining with my partner, I'm not an animal!) 2 from BAC, and 1 from my neighbor. No text messages from BAC, but there was one from my neighbor. They were going to leave my bags in the snow in front of my house because they didn't want to go up the stairs. So my neighbor offered to take the bags in for them. *deep breath* Few things about this: 1) Why could a professional company like BAC, that slings bags for retirees all summer long at The Captain Cook not go up the same stairs I, FedEx, UPS, USPS, and Door Dash drivers go up daily/weekly? No idea. (Why this matters: the bags are out of view from the street when they are up the stairs in front of my door, they are VERY VISIBLE from the street where they planned to leave them) 2) They didn't know I have an amazing relationship with my neighbor...but they just dropped them off with him anyway? Not impressed BAC. Learn how to walk up some stairs. It's the least you can do when you are 3 hours (or 2 days) late for a delivery. Also, try texting as well as calling.

When the valet retrieved my vehicle, I was informed that my tire was flat and loose. By loose, he meant that the tire was off the rim. My truck was not dropped off in that condition. The tire was clearly not flat or off the rim when I drove in and left the vehicle. Additionally, the check-in attendant did not note or mention any issue with the tire when my vehicle was signed in, which further confirms it was not in that condition at drop-off. A During this interaction, the attendant simply handed me my keys and walked away. There was no direction given to return to the front desk or complete any type of incident report or claim. The group all seemed to know each other and the tour guide, so I felt like the odd one out. The training for the Segway was good and I felt I picked it up pretty well. We were doing fine for the first half, speeding down the road, watching seaplanes land, hearing stories of small craft aviation in Alaska. It was actually quite enjoyable and I was having a good time. Until we crossed the road to go over a grassy dip. The guide told us to power through it, but it was like going down the black diamond slope on your first time skiing. I tried to power through but didn't handle it correctly coming up the other side of the dip and ended up falling off hard. I recovered and got back on it, but a little while later, more grass to go over, I overcompensated and fell off. Then, a lip on an incline and I overcompensated and fell off. That's when I was done. My confidence was shot. What they don't tell you about Segways: your feet will hurt, a lot, from the vibrations and you can't exactly keep shifting them. You're at the mercy of the guide stopping to give you a break. Your feet and legs may also go numb after long periods of standing on the vibrating machine. These both make it harder to engage your upper leg and glute muscles to make fine adjustments to your balance. All this combined with unfamiliarity with how to navigate uneven surfaces makes it very hazardous for first-time users. And of course, after three falls, I was in more pain and feeling like a massive embarrassment in front of this group I felt I intruded on. It started as a fun adventure, but far too advanced for someone new. I wish we could have stayed on a flatter path and taken more frequent breaks. As an FYI for new folks: there's no easy way to bail off a Segway if you feel you're going to fall. If you fall, you'll fall hard. It's not like just falling over in snow. Segway Tours were very nice and their tour guide was very knowledgable, but this type of Segway riding may not be for everyone.

This company's inspection practices and billing disputes make thorough documentation absolutely essential to avoid being wrongfully charged for pre-existing damage.

There were a handful of renters that were left either finding a place to stay or staying in the parking lot in the rv. Checkout the following morning took a whole 10 minutes! So we had to delay our departure by 13 hours for a 10 minute process. For $4100 to rent the rv, I would think a reasonable amount of flexibility warranted. This delayed us getting to a scheduled fishing charter at cooper landing. The shuttle was also not running so we had to grab an Uber to get there. Be aware of this when considering flight times. The rv was ok.

Avoid this place! First, they are overpriced - almost every other major car rental company in…read moreAnchorage is cheaper. Second, Cheapwheels forces you to buy their extremely pricey "insurance," which is void if you drive off-road (a problem for a state with so many B&B's that require driving on unpaved roads), and it requires a $1 to $2,000 deductible! No other car rental company requires such an outrageous deductible if you buy their coverage, and every reputable place will have basic insurance built into the rental cost itself. Additionally, Mike and Cindy are extremely shady and unethical businesspeople. Not only did they not explain how minimal their required "insurance" coverage is despite its exorbitant cost, but they also charge a $100 non-refundable deposit, which is unheard of in the car rental industry. This 'deposit' scheme was not adequately explained to me, of course, and was nowhere in writing. My credit card company is now attempting to get the money back after I had to cancel the reservation (after I found out about their shady insurance policy), and it is money that they basically stole.

Note: There is a charge for this convenience--as expected--but it's reasonable. Alaskan Car Rental can also provide car seats, which we utilized for our two kids. A good overall experience and friendly customer service.

I hunted AK in September of 2017 and my bush pilot highly recommended I use Alaska Air Transit…read more(AAT) but I decided to book PenAir instead thinking they'd be more reliable because they are a bigger airline, plus their tickets were less expensive. I had to be in a small village on 9/13 to catch a flight into the bush with a bush pilot who was all booked up. Two weeks prior to my flight to AK, Penn Air cancelled my 9/13 flight to McGrath, AK leaving me in a very bad spot because there are only 2 airlines who fly to this McGrath. I was told I would get a full refund since they cancelled the flight. This ended up being a total lie. I immediately called AAT and was very lucky they had a few seats left so I booked with them. I am certain a lot of Penn Air customers were not able to get to this village on time or had to pay big bucks to charter a flight there. The AAT flight went off without a hitch and those working at AAT were very friendly, accommodating and professional. When I got to McGrath, all I heard from those who used PeAir was horrible stories; several were stuck in this village 4 days, spending $250 a night for the only Hotel, waiting for PenAir to get their luggage to them. I had booked refundable tickets with Penn Air on my flight back to Anchorage so after my bad experience and those from others, I called PenAir and asked if I cancelled my flight would I get a refund and was told I would since I booked a refundable tickets. This too ended up being a lie. I cancelled the PenAir flight and booked with AAT. The flight back to Anchorage with AAT again went off without a hitch and the pilot was nice and professional. Had it not been for AAT and their dependability, and a little luck on my part they still has seats available, my AK Hunt would have been a bust. AAT is a little more expensive but well worth it. I have learned a very expensive lesson about who to fly with in AK and will always use AAT going forward. I cannot say how thankful and grateful I am to all the AAT staff for being dependable, reliable, friendly and professional! As the old adage goes...you get what you pay for!
