Kate took my call a couple of times and told me she ordered the door handle part for replacement and the deposit return process takes long etc. I did not push her too much, however, it seems not reasonable after 3 months they still hold my deposit. and she reject to reply my message and not pick up my call any more. I loved that we were inconspicuous and the vehicle didn't scream tourist with any branded stickers or crazy paint jobs. The gas mileage was great, and the bed was comfy! Some bedding is provided, and it was the perfect weight for the summer weather. The van curtains weren't black out, but we felt it made the interior plenty dark enough to sleep. We did have one occasion to try to get in touch with the owners when we thought we may be prevented from coming on time back due to a wildfire and couldn't get through - but that is to be expected if they are out enjoying their own getaway as happened to be the case. Were able to get picked up at our one nights of real lodging and then dropped the car off at the airport which was also very convenient. However, something…read moreweird is going on with the bears this year (I'm sure it's related to the weird weather and food scarcity), so my honey decided to surprise me with a last minute RV rental. I was really shocked he was able to find a same day available RV to rent in June, since RV's reservations are made MONTHS in advance in the summer in Anchorage. He scoured the internet and found this teeny mom n pop company listed on Outdoorsy.co (not .com) that had an RV immediately available. He was able to make his reservation and payment on line and the RV was ready for pickup a few hours later. We showed up to pick up the RV at 6pm and I have to say, the place looked sketchy. There's no signs, not office and the lot is way in the back down a bumpy dirt road. But, everything actually turned out to be fine. The fleet is a little older, but the owner Tom is a mechanic and keeps everything running fine. It's quite a bit cheaper than some of the other places in town with newer fleets. We're hardcore Alaskans that don't believe in glamping; we just wanted hard sided protection from wildlife. Tom's and his helper spent a long time with us giving us the RV 101 orientation, which was awesome. The RV had everything we needed, although I do wish it had USB chargers. Note to self, bring a cell charger that plugs into the cig lighter. But everything was a-ok. We had all the kitchen doodads we needed, and since we mentioned Yelp we got free linens. Insurance was included. Tom made us very safe and let us know if we had any issues or questions we could call or text day or night. He also said he'd provide roadside assistance should we need it. I really appreciated the personalized service. If you like supporting the little guy, I highly recommend giving Alaska Family Motorhomes a shot! We'll definitely rent from them again if the need arises.

It was our first visit and was made even more memorable with a perfect July riding day thanks in great part to AMA. In the weeks leading up to our trip, Nancy was very helpful via email. We arrived on a Monday morning and Keith had everything ready, explained all the legalities, and walked us through the bikes. The lawyer in me appreciated his thoroughness with regard to laws and safety, and the tourist in me appreciated his friendly banter and route suggestions. The hubs and I took the 12GS Rallye (AMA's "flagship" bike) down to the Kenai Penninsula with one of his college buddies, who rode the smaller 650GS. AMA provided the helmets and jackets and they had a good variety of both (I brought my own helmet and jacket because they fit perfectly and I rarely get to wear them, but I would have been fine had I left them at home). We provided our own gloves. For most of the trip, the summer weight gloves were great, but later in the day, it was nice to have the winter weight for the cooler temps and crosswinds. AMA also provided us an aluminum pannier for the back of the bike, which was excellent as a backrest for me and also held all of our gear including a tire-repair kit provided by Keith. Our buddy's 650 was equipped with side panniers. We had no issues with the bikes whatsoever. We stopped for breakfast in Girdwood, checked out some bald eagles on the road to Seward, found a rocky beach in Hope, and ate fresh crab and halibut in Seward. At one point on the ride home, our buddy was dive-bombed by a bald eagle, which was one of the hilarious highlights of the trip. It was nice to keep the bikes overnight because we lost track of time under the midnight sun with our many sightseeing side trips to check out the local shops and eateries. There was also a little construction, which let us really slow down and take in the beautiful scenery. The beemer was comfy and solid as one would expect. Next time we are definitely doing a full week!

This was a our first time sleeping in a rooftop tent and at first I hated it - After three days I LOVED it! So much so that now we're shopping for a RTT of our own. Both the hubby and I have been off-roading in our 1996 Landcruiser so we are very experienced drivers. When we rented Nanook the caster/alignment was off which made driving straight a bit of a challenge. Craig did note the issue as he was driving over to pick us up. We made sure to remind Craig about the issue when we returned Nanook. When you rent these rigs just understand that you're renting the bare minimum when it comes to kitchen setup. No seasonings except salt and pepper, no hot pads, etc. Our rig did not include measuring cups and we were mostly cooking freeze dried meals so we stopped at Target and bought some. When we returned the rig, we left the cups so hopefully the next person who rents Nanook will have measuring cups. Also Nanook's cook set is stainless steel so when you cook eggs in the morning - Good Luck and cleaning... Would have much preferred that the cook set was non-stick but it is what it is. Thankfully we are not big coffee drinkers but the coffee pot they include is too small the large burners on the stove. So we used the pots to boil water for tea and hot coco. Overall renting from Alaska Overlander was an incredible experience and we already want to come back and rent with them again to explore more of Alaska. Alaska Overland is an excellent option when you either can't take enough time off of work to drive your own truck up to Alaska OR if you don't have an off-road truck at all. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Outside of food, beverages and spices the Denali came with everything we needed for an upgraded off road camping adventure. The tent was comfortable and easy to set up along with the awning and it was great having a fridge with its own dedicated power source. Over the course of amazing trip we did not experience any issues and the Denali was a comfortable ride for some of the longer drives. Plenty of outlets and plug options for charging up gear on the road. The staff were super helpful and informative and we even got to use a brand new portable propane fire pit and camper shell. Highly recommended and looking forward to coming back for an even longer road trip.
