We ordered the seafood curry laksa which wasn't as spicy as we thought it was. It was filled with heaps of noodles, large pieces of tofu and veggies and fish cake pieces. It was pretty yummy but it didn't come out hot that we had to wait for it to cool down. The soup was pretty good and flavourful. The roti planta came out last while we started eating our mains. The roti was delicious and the sauces were pretty good. Vegetarian Char Koay Teow with egg came out not hot either. The serving was a bit small and my hubby was still hungry after his meal which usually doesn't happen. It's pretty disappointing - but I'm glad we ordered the roti too. We also ordered the lemon tea was was delicious. Not sure if we'll be back, but it was a good experience either way.

The restaurant runs quite busy and it's not unusual to have a line on busier days (such as weekends). This time, we ordered two Malaysian staples for lunch - Nasi Lemak and the Roti Canai with Teh Tarik as a drink on the side. The Roti Canai came out very quickly. The roti itself had a nice fluff and butteriness that, while easy to break, had the right amount of chewy texture when eaten. The sauces that accompany (sambal, dhal, and curry) are also well complemented. The only downside is the serving size, one piece of roti, for what is, around $8. While this may be sufficient for some, the majority would be better ordering a smaller side (e.g. chicken skewer satay) to accompany. (Rating: 4/5) The Nasi Lemak was a bit disappointing. It comes with peanuts with fried anchovies, cucumber slices, sambal, half an egg, and beef rendang (which can be swapped for fried chicken or curry chicken). The rice was well done; however, the anchovies were a bit chewier than I would have liked and sambal tasted a bit more on the sweeter side/lacked a real spicy hit. The beef rendang felt a bit tough and dry for my liking. That said, the serving portions were good value for money here (it was a fair bit to eat for one person). (Rating 3.5/5). We also ordered cold Teh Tarik (a pulled milk tea that is often served in Malaysia and Singapore). This was okay and had a nice milky texture; however, we felt that it was overpriced given the amount of ice that was given (more than half the drink was large ice cubes). There's a charge if you request no ice. (Rating 3.5/5) Service is a bit hit and miss. The place gets busy and is set up for efficiency, so you end up looking at the menu, writing down a selection, and then pressing a buzzer for the waiter to come and collect. While service can be quick and efficient, it can be a bit robotic and sometimes you feel that you have to make yourself known/press the buzzer a few times to get attention. (Rating 3.5/5) At the end of the day, the experience was okay, and there is a lot of variety to try on the menu. I'd come back, but it wouldn't be somewhere that I'd (a) join a long line and wait for, (b) take my Malaysian parents, or (c) take a date I'm trying to impress. It was magnificent - a spicy, fishy, sour, fragrant soup topped with pineapple, cucumber & red onion. We also had some roti canai, belacan green beans and succulent fried chicken wings - which were all amazing. The perfect starter to our meal. For the main, the beef Ho Fun was steaming hot with great texture, and had the perfect meat/veg/noodle ratio. (Spring onion, bean sprouts) Jen asked the waitress for a recommendation who answered that the "Chefs special fried rice" was very popular and the most ordered fried rice dish. Naturally she ordered this, though, after placing our order, we sat waiting for what seemed an eternity between, my main (Ho fun) coming out, and the fried rice main. When it came out, it was hot, had a larger than average portion size, which compensated for it's absolute lack of anything good. This was made very apparent by the utter and pure disappointment in Jen's facial expression upon tasting this "Chefs special fried rice". Which was essentially a brown coloured steaming heap of MANURE, for $14. It tasteless with the absence of seasoning. We had our fingers crossed, for a moment of redemption when Jen pushed her spoon through the yolk of the fried egg which topped the dish, hoping for a runny flow of orange gold....but instead was met with a dry, chalky over cooked rubbery puck. The type of yolk that sticks in your throat. Abysmal. After two mouthfuls, the disappointment was too much for Jen, she battled with the idea of taking it home in a container, or to approach the staff to query whether something was missing. The dry curry mee was very good but we weren't that impressed with the laksa - it had a more buttery rather than coconut milk flavour and they used short fat rice noodles ("mouse tail" noodles) which are not our favourite. The food here is Malay style rather than Chinese Malaysian style so I don't think that this is the place to eat noodles. We're going to come back and try the nasi lemak (which looked amazing) and some roti! They have a good coffee machine and use Wolff Coffee which was excellent.

I would definitely rate the food as some of the best Malaysian/Indonesian food in Brisbane.

The "sang choy bao" or lettuce wraps are really good, very flavorful, and there usually isn't enough of it to go around. I want at least 2 cups but usually, there is only 1 for each person. The thin fried noodles (vegetarian) -- "see yau wong chow meen" -- is stellar! Perfectly dry like it should be and flavor-packed. The only thing I didn't love was the crispy skin chicken. The skin wasn't really crispy. Each time I go home, this is one of those restaurants where we will go for at least one meal. It's good to know that it's remained consistent through the years.
