This local treasure is very dear to my heart. I rode the Yakima Trolley as a child with my family. At the time, the tracks ran by our house to Lion's Pool. I'm so happy it has been preserved to continue making memories wherever it goes. read more

This was a really cool surprise find recently! The trolley in Yakima is the last remaining intercity Trolley car in the USA as it goes to Selah in the summer time - very cool stuff! We saddled yo and came down to check out the Trolley and associated Trolley museum when Santa was in town going on rides downtown, and my what a lovely time it was. The trolley runs on weekends and holidays during the summer months and then at random times throughout the remainder of the year. One of those times is a couple weekends in the winter for the Santa Trolley- a lovely ride where St. Nick jumps on and says hello to the kids. The trip was $5 per person and took about 25 minutes. The kids got to say hi to Santa and the group sang Christmas carols. It was a delight! The museum is relatively small, but has some great small exhibits taking about the history of the cars, both in terms of how they run and how they fit into the area. The Trolleys, in Yakima, have been around over 100 years and the cars that are running have as well - they're the 1776 and 1976, and these are the street car numbers rather than when they were built. The actual cars are downright beautiful. Largely original interior with seats that reverse direction depending on whether you're coming or going. The conductors are super friendly and all volunteers for what is truly a labor of love to preserve something that is unique and very historical. Bravo to this place for continuing to pull off some great events and maintaining a piece of the past so all of us can continue to enjoy it! read more

600volts to power this trolly!! Due to our growing experimental pharmacological camping population (drug seeking, without home, copper stealing folks), the trolly cars of today must be powered by a diesel generator. Today, we had the opportunity to ride during the Memorial Day weekend. The route covered Yakima to Selah and lasted about a half hour each way. Before departure, we were given a very great history lesson on the trolleys and system in Yakima. It's worth the ride just for the history if you're into to the "past" of how things come to be. Small museum with a lot to share. I have been to this trolley experience a few times over the past several years, and they never disappoint. Larry Fournier is an absolutely charming Trolley host. His historical knowledge of the Yakima Valley Trolleys, as well as Yakima itself, is interesting and engaging. This gem is only open weekends and holidays through the summer, with a few specialty runs in October and December. There are two lines that the trolley operates on; one stays in Yakima and will take around 30-45 minutes to complete. The other line runs all the way to Selah, and takes around 30-40 mins each way. Unfortunately, the reliability of the Selah line is dependent on how much of the line is in tact at any given time. Some of the local population feel parts of the line would be better served traded for cash. The Trolley lines had to undergo a major modification to be able to run without the use of the overhead electric lines(miles and miles of copper was stolen out of the lines), and instead uses a Diesel engine to move the cars along the lines. Definitely take advantage of this well-preserved historical treasure. **This institution is run entirely by volunteers. None of the individuals you meet working the lines are paid for their time.** read more

Fun way to spend an hour: ride an old trolley through a Yakima neighborhood, listening to the history of the service by the motorman, and then visiting the shop and powerhouse. Great for history, train, and Edwardian tech buffs. Very nice folks volunteering here. read more

Mark the conductor was friendly and there were only a few of us he let the kids pull the whistle and stomp on the "ding ding". Definitely fun for kids, my daughter loved the open windows and waving at people not traveling by trolley. It's shame that Yakima doesn't see this for the opportunity it is, this could be a great tourist attraction especially if they where allowed and had funding to expand lines. They want people to walk around downtown? How about add this as public transportation? Much better investment than the ugly art exhibit next to Olive Garden. We will ride again when the Selah line is restored, hopefully the meth heads electrocute themselves next time. read more

Best trolley ive ever rode west of the Missisipi river

It was heartbreaking to hear someone stole part of the electrical line so the trolley has to use a generator. They are trying to raise funds to get it replaced. This is an all volunteer enterprise and they really do a great job. It was fun to ride and the conductor did a great job. This is perfect for kids and kids at heart like me. I even bought a hat! I will do this again when in the Yakima area. read more
