Okay, I don't get why this isn't just called Korean BBQ? We opted for the al carte and didn't want to do the AYCE since don't think we could do much damage. Got the following: Pork Jowl - this looked like pork belly to me and it tasted like pork belly. Wagyu short ribs - this was the only better tasting item. Prawns - eh Marinated Wagyu LA Beef ribs - this was super sweet. Didn't care for their marinated concoction. The three sauces that they supply you with here was underwhelming - this sauce that was filled with chili wasn't even spicy. It was sweet and I was expecting heat but heat level was 0. Great value with Groupon AYCE Wagyu and seafood deal, though we did have a little trouble finding the place. Other than that, the touchscreens worked smoothly, and the waiters brought out our orders in a timely fashion. We could only order 5 items at a time, but you can place an order right after the previous one. The marbling on the steaks varied with each serving, but it's what you expect from a place that serves AYCE wagyu. Opened only 5 days ago, this is the second branch of Hana Hana which is located where French Riviera was previously. The ordering process and the menu is the same as in the first Hana Hana, so nothing special to talk about here. But what I want to talk about is the new Hana Hana cafe on the second floor. The menu has a lot of choices which you wouldn't normally find in a cafe in Sydney such as Japanese style parfait, kakigori which is a Japanese shaved ice dessert, roll cake, ice cream, pancake and different choices of drinks. \(^_^)/\(^_^)/ As a regular at the first Hana Hana, I wanted to try the new cafe so I went with 2 of my friends. I must say, the interior looks nice, better than a lot of other cafes around the city and you can sit outside if you wanted. Once inside, my friends got the hot black sesame latte and I got the ice green tea latte which I usually get when I go to a cafe in Sydney. The ice green tea latte came with a scoop of green tea ice cream which I think is a plus but it came in a tall and slim glass which wasn't practical. The straw and the spoon I was given was just long enough to fit the glass so that wasn't so good. The hot black sesame latte came in mugs which was kind of small considering it was the regular size but looks good. The taste of the ice green tea latte was good, similar to other cafes but a little different and I liked how the green tea ice cream melts and blends with the drink. My friends said that the hot black sesame latte was good and considering not many places have this drink, it was great. I haven't tried the other choices on the menu but having tried the ice green tea latte and saw some of the desserts being made, I would be coming back as the prices are cheap for the drinks/food/sweets and also the interior looks great. \(^O^)/ read more

I took a different route home from Circular Quay one night and came across this place. The menu looked pretty decent so I made a mental note to come back here on my day off to check it out. It's almost completely self-service and/or automated. The only time you interact with someone is when you pay and when the servers bring your food out. Be sure not to hit "ORDER" on the iPad thingy until you're 100% sure that's what you want. There are no cancellations. The decor is, for lack of a better word, RAD! Minimalist-Japanese. Wood everything. Prefect for groups or just eating solo (which I love to do). There's an upstairs dining area too, but I failed to venture up there as I was too busy admiring the decor around me downstairs. I ordered two (2) small dishes: 1) Gyu Don $5.50 2) Small Ramen $5.90 Gyu Don was a nice surprise! The beef was perfectly sliced and nicely marinated. It was a good portion size too for the price. The ramen was a little on the salty side. I was trying to add anything I could to dilute the saltiness, even pouring a little bit of my water in there. I'm definitely coming back to try other things on the menu, but I think I'll avoid the ramen :) read more

This is the same branch as the one in Haymarket, so the same menu is offered however this location offers some unique things. The unique thing about this place is that there is now desserts & coffee being offered (systematically placed after you eat and close to the exit), and that there is also some outdoor seating. I'm a big fan of this place because its cheap and efficient. Will be back here many times, because the location is a bit more convenient and to try the desserts. Oh and one more thing, you can use the same stamp card here so if you have built up a collection you can collect and redeem here as well. read more

They changed their menu...you can't grab things a la carte anymore. The food quality is still good, as are the variety of dishes offered, but no more a la carte is a bit disappointing, since it's part of what I loved about this place. Still worth going though. read more

Great Japanese food at great prices. The ordering system at the front is all touch screen and when finished just print out the ticket with the items ordered and bring it to cashier. I have been here a few times already for casual eats and it's a nice spot. If you're not that hungry there are always half size entrees or you can go up to a bento box. I also would like to mention that the service here is extremely friendly and helpful. On my first visit there was a Japanese man serving me he was just so lovely! Based on my experience it seems like the staff there appreciate your presence there and that's definitely a nice touch. read more

This is such a cool place. I love how you order off an iPad and you can't go wrong with BBQ at your table. The prices are great as well and it is BYO (wine for $3 a person). The staff was very friendly and you gotta love them yelling things at you in Japanese on your way in or out. I looked up some suggestions on food and ordered accordingly and I think I did a pretty good job. I agree you should definitely get the Wagyu beef (it was on special when we were there) for bbq. We also got the mushrooms with cheese fondu which was excellent....I mean cheese sauce is a win no matter what. The Seared Salmon sushi was nice as well. The Gomae was only medium and the sausages were more like hot dogs almost but still tasty. They could be a bit more creative with their sushi rolls but I guess basic keeps things easy. read more

Hana Hana is about as basic as you can get with Udon Noodles! Surprisingly, it is the best Udon noodles I have eaten. The noodles somehow absorb a lot of flavor. I am usually disappointed when I order Udon noodles at any Japanese restaurant, but Hana Hana has changed that! When you walk in you order at a kiosk, take the receipt to the counter and pay, and take a seat. The atmosphere is pretty nice, with a very long wooden table and benches for seats. You don't get much food but you cannot complain for $7, and I was pretty satisfied. My only problem with Hana Hana is that they give you very little meat. There is only noodles and whatever else you ordered (beef, chicken, bean curd). Me and my gf only had 3 small pieces of meat, while my sister had 2 pieces of bean curd. For some very tasty and well-made udon, you cannot go wrong with Hana Hana! read more

Pretty much the same as the Haymarket location but better....yes...better. More of a central location for folks in the CBD and also a lot larger. Not that I found the other location too crowded, but this place is probable double the size if not triple. There's also outdoor seating which is a nice addition. The menu remains the same as the other location. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Good variety of soba, udon and ramen as a main you select from a nifty touchscreen. From there you move onto the side dishes which makes this part the most difficult. There are sooooo many to choose from from hot to cold, fried and steamed. Make sure you don't try to overdo it here...I've done it on several occasions. Of all the udon/soba joints I've tried so far, this has to be my favorite and is always a go-to sorta place for me. read more

Hana Hana is now Gyuzo, a Japanese BBQ restaurant. They run a touch screen ordering system, which is fun and convenient, and the staff are friendly and attentive. My main gripes are that the wagyu is cut way too thin for my liking, and besides the rib finger, is not very tasty. They also could do with a better selection of beer and sake, as well as more carbohydrates on the menu. I like this place and look forward to going back every few weeks. I hope that they are able to introduce some new dishes to the menu over time as one of the common failings of yakiniku joints is a stale menu. read more

The service was quite poor- forgetting orders, not responding to requests. They provided 'wagyu' that was of poorer quality than standard beef in other restaurants, nothing like the pictures displayed in their menu. The food was quite tasteless and the dipping sauces didn't add much to the flavour. Whilst the food was fresh, it was substandard for what you're paying. There are other Japanese and Korean bbq restaurants that give you better good for less money. Would not recommend. read more

Despite being in plain sight we went in multiple circles before finding the correct location. After sampling Ramen all over the world I would rank this as average, but far from exceptional. There is definitely some character in the location (i.e. it's a dive) that usually signals top quality food, and it certainly hit the spot after walking all day but I doubt I would seek it out as a hidden gem. read more
