Wow what a dining experience! Came here for dinner with reservations on a weekday so it wasn't as crowded as it would be on a weekend. The restaurant is cozy, modern, and inviting. The bathrooms are amazing btw with their warm seats and automatic everything. It was my first time having this dining experience where it was a set menu so I didn't know what to expect. Each dish was great and the pace was perfect because we didn't feel rushed to finish our food and were not waiting long for the next dish to come out. For those who are pregnant and have limitations on what you can consume - you won't be left out! They were so thoughtful to let my friend know what dish was coming out and since she couldn't have it, they replaced it with a dish she could have so she wouldn't be sitting there watching us eat. They offer a refined and modern Japanese BBQ, with an atmosphere that feels intimate, elevated, and perfect for a special night out --whether it's a date, a small gathering, or even a celebratory dinner. Great service and nice attentive. The reason why 4 stars because of the tomato and raw vegetables portions. I'm not sure if they still serve Japanese tomato as they did in the past year, past year was a whole tomato, now they did couple pieces. Spending close to $300 for 2 people sounds over priced. We had been loyal customers of this restaurant for quite some time and always enjoyed consistently satisfying meals. In the past, the portions were generous enough that by the time the final rice course arrived, we were usually too full to finish it and would take the leftovers home. As it had been nearly a year since our last visit, this experience came as a genuine disappointment. The portion sizes appeared to have decreased by at least one-third, the quality of the ingredients had noticeably declined, and the final rice course was no longer included. Overall, the meal felt far less substantial than before, and we 13 people all left without feeling satisfied. While we understand that inflation and rising operating costs have impacted the restaurant industry, paying approximately $180 per person after tax and tip for the current quality and quantity simply did not feel justified. Even those in our group with very small appetites commented that they were still hungry afterward. I took me mom here for her birthday last year. Tonight I took my wife here for our anniversary. We had the tasting menu, which was incredible. There's a number of different cuts of A5 wagyu, all cooked at the table. Only 1 piece each of most cuts. At the end, it's less than a whole steak, But it's really filling. It starts with amuse bouche tastes, then seafood, then comes the meat. They finish you with a cold udon that's refreshing. I couldn't eat the noodles, too full. But the broth has sliced kumquats in it, which add a great sweet citrus. The white chocolate mochi balls and tangerine sorbet were a wonderful light dessert. The service is amazing. I had seen this place in Resy but hadn't tried it. We saw it in dine La and decided to give it a try. It was so good that we have been back since to try t regular menu. They are located in a strip mall with parking right at the front, but it does get busy and it might be hard to find parking. They definitely have an upscale feel to them which makes it perfect for special occasions or date night. I highly suggest making reservations to ensure you have a spot and don't have to wait long. They are very friendly and welcoming! We have sat inside and outside. In the inside they have a quieter environment, but outside is still nice. We might've just been unlucky to have a very unruly party next to us but we didn't let it bother us too much. Every single time the staff has been excellent! They cook the meat for you and go bringing small plates of everything. This is definitely an experience that we have really enjoyed. They have a vast menu of sakes but also accept corkage if you bring your own. For our anniversary they gave us a flute of their special house wine which was delicious! So good that we bought a bottle for our second visit. Every single dish has an exceptional attention to details. Although the dishes look small, by the end of the night you will be full. Their bone marrow fried rice to close the savory part of the meal just hits the spot. Overall I know we will be back. I've been to this establishment multiple times due to their excellent service and outstanding dishes. I had booked this reservation for my boyfriend's birthday weeks ahead because I figured how busy they would get on the weekends. When I arrived 10 minutes before my reservation time (8:30), they are understaffed and caused couple parties to be delayed. I have a heavy food industry background, so I understand that delays happen. However, some other party came in after us and knew one of the servers. When the rest of the parties were getting sat in order, they seated the party that the server knew before us. Which to me is disrespectful and unfair of my time especially because everyone else had to wait, but they didn't? Simply because they knew one of the servers? If you're going to do this and be unfair, at least don't make it so obvious for people to notice lol The rest of the servers were attentive and professional. I appreciate their attentiveness and explanations because it was my boyfriend's first time. Meat quality has been the same since when they first opened. This is probably my favorite restaurant. I've been here multiple times and everytime it's a hit. My waitress was Tiffany and she made the experience 10x better. She explains each dish so well and is so sweet. She keeps everything cleaned and organized on our table after we finish every dish. The ambiance is also so nice, music not too loud and lighting not too dim where I can still see what I'm eating. Every dish is full of flavor and surprises. I think my favorite dish would have to be that first bite of beef tartar in the crispy cracker. It's packed with flavors you wouldn't expect, umami, savory, and a bit citrusy. Another stand out for me is the beef tongue. Maybe I'm just biased but it is tender and perfect with the side of chives/green onion topping. Mm so delicious. Honestly everything was so delicious, no misses for me. The meat was so marbled and great quality. You can tell every dish was made meticulously with detail. Even the dessert... big surprise. Even our drinks made by the bartender Sean was perfect. I ordered the bartenders choice and got spot on what I liked, fruity and light. How extremely disappointing. Wish this place was still Guppy House to be honest, but claimed by the fire ages ago and that franchise is mostly gone. Place used to be Yakiyan but was changed to Yakiya. I had some actual Japanese friends raise an eyebrow at the original name, so I guess that's where the name change came in. For ages I wanted to try this place out but couldn't really justify it and my brother and friends saw that they have a DineLA tasting menu that allows us to try more of their food for a somewhat more affordable price. First red flag. Restaurant door was completely open for anyone to come in. Some lady working the front told me they were on lunch. I SHOWED THEM the DineLA tasting menu WITH THE TIMES on the OFFICIAL DINELA website stating that on Sundays they're open from 11:30 AM - 10 PM. THERE IS NO LUNCH BREAK LISTED. I PHSYICALLY SHOWED THIS WOMAN THE FLYER. Without batting an eye and WITHOUT admitting ANY FAULT, she just said okay we'll we're on lunch and asked if we had reservations and that there weren't any until 8 PM. Yeah on the DineLA page your OpenTable is listed, but NOWHERE did it say that it was REQUIRED or MANDATORY. Even when the maid cafe had OpenTable it was said that reservations were recommended. Yet, a $$$$ restaurant that touts itself as fine dining and higher class cannot? Cringe and fail. What can I say more than that? It's one thing that, yes you're on lunch and that reservations are required for the DineLA menu. How about closing the door and not leaving it open? HOW ABOUT PUBLISHING THE CORRECT TIMES ON THE FLYER? Get your graphic designer/social media person to BE COMPETENT. I think the worst thing of it wall was how that lady never ONCE admitted fault or even a polite and quick apology stating the typo that was on the flyer. We cleared out our plans SPECIFICALLY for this Sunday, because we saw that this restaurant on their DineLA menu didn't take that midday break. Yakiya has Shabu now!!!! They've had shabu at the Pasadena location for some time now. They brought Shabu to Hacienda, and I wanted to try it. I came here with my friend. We made a reservation for 6:30. For some reason I remembered the time wrong, and was late. They graciously held the table for us. They had appetizers that came out. They're the same ones as the bbq version. There are two different broths that come out - spicy miso and a Dashi broth. I'm not a fan of the dashi because I love flavors. The miso was delicious. It comes with so much food. There's a lot of delicious meat and vegetables. There's a huge seafood platter as well. There were 3 different meat courses that came out. The service was fantastic. 10.10.25 - had this placed bookmarked for the past few years and finally got to try it out! We made reservations and went right after the pumpkin patch. I was afraid we would be underdressed but my friend said we would be fine. I still felt underdressed when we got there lol. The place is smaller and more simple than I expected. We went with the Original set menu which is $128/person. I also ordered the Pagoda cocktail ($18). I think I got it with vodka instead of gin. I usuallydark liquor but it didn't go with the flavor. Our server was wonderful! She was friendly and explained every dish that came out. My favorite would have to be the appetizers! Those were delicious and the most memorable! The meats were high quality and they do the cooking for you. I gave my friend all the beef tongue. Thats the one thing I don't eat. I was too full to eat the garlic miso bone marrow rice at the time but it was pretty good the next day. The sorbet and matcha truffle at the end was also good. I forgot a pic of the truffle. Such a great experience at a local spot! I remember this spot as Guppy House back in the day, but so happy they upgraded to Yakiya. It's a bit pricy for their Original Omakase experience for the location (Hacienda Heights) but I thoroughly enjoyed it ($128/person)! The meat quality and variety was super great and the service is very good too. Everyone is super attentive and the ambiance of the restaurant makes you feel like you're not in the 626 but at a fancy spot out in LA or similar spots. The meat quality is very very very yummy and super tender, and I love that the staff cooks for you. I've been to Michelin spots, and a "test" I always do is leaving my napkin when going to the bathroom (which is super nice by the way, very Japanese style) and seeing if they will fold it for you, and they passed the test. The beef and all the meats were very yummy, and the drinks unique (but pricy, around $20-25 per drink). They change up their omakase dishes every so often so new things may be there when you come. I would say the non beef options were ok (their miso cod and tomato salad were meh but acceptable) but the meat and service more than make up for it. I'd definitely come back, and they have a DineLA special with a lot of the same stuff from their original Omakase, so definitely check it out if you're curious about it! read more

I was happy that Yakiya extended their DineLA menu so that we could celebrate Valentine's a bit early without the markups or crowds this Saturday. My wife said the amount of food was just right and for the first time, did not need a doggy bag for the food we just could not eat. The service is remarkable and the staff friendly, many speaking Cantonese to the patrons. My family and I came by for lunch to celebrate my mom's birthday. We managed to snag a 1pm reservation, and while it seemed like availability was a bit difficult to find on Resy, the place was pretty empty when we arrived around 1pm on a Saturday, with just a few other tables there. The restaurant has a very refined and elegant aesthetic (very Japandi vibes) with plenty of spacious seating.  We all ordered the yakiniku set, which comes at $78 pp (before tax/tip). It comes with 3 courses of appetizers, 5 courses of meats, a fried rice dish, and a nice dessert. My favourite appetiser was the beef tartare, which was fresh and perfectly seasoned and came with a very tasty chip. The salad and chawanmushi were also yummy too. All the courses of beef were so delicious -- they were so tender and flavourful, and it was lovely seeing them get cooked to a perfect degree right in front of us. It's hard to pick a favourite cut, but I really liked the harami cut (so juicy, just melted in our mouths) and the ribeye, which had a solid and savoury depth to it. The wagyu garlic rice was very tasty, and even though it looked a bit oily/heavy at first, I think it was actually quite a nice complement to the richer flavours of the beef courses. The wagyu was delicious (as always). There was also a hidden course of a small bowl of radish soup, which was an excellent palate cleanser before our dessert, which was a scoop of lemon sorbet with some minty/basil flavouring. All in all, it was a very lovely experience with amazing food, service, and ambience. The price point is definitely on a high side, but certainly worth a splurge :) Would love to come back again someday. read more

We came here on Valentine's Day to hopefully get a reservation. Luckily, they were willing to take us in at a 9pm reservation The waiter asked for our names and how to spell it which I found odd. Only to realize that during dessert they wrote our names on it, that was such a nice surprise and great finish to the meal. The ambience was nice and clean. It felt very high end. The Valentine's Day menu was delish!!! I loved everything and the pacing of the food that came out was perfect. We did not have to wonder too long whether or not the food would arrive. Our waiter seemed new, but she was very sweet and honest when she couldn't answer our questions. The drinks were amazing and tasty. The meats were great and my favorite was the bone marrow rice, it looked to be cooked in a stone bowl so we got it to be crispy!! 10/10 experience. Honestly, I recently just had an experience at Nobu Malibu that was pretty bad. So coming here reminded me of what a classy fine dining should be like. Ordered: - 2x Dine LA with uni Caviar Egg and Garlic Miso Bone Marrow (5/5): I haven't had much experience with course menus in general, but I would say this was the perfect introduction to one at a very reasonable price. My gf and I were consistently wowed by the complex flavors of each course, and we loved how intentional the placement of the courses were to cut through the heavy flavors. Some standouts: - Abalone Chawanmushi: the steamed egg with abalone broth gave a warm, savory flavor with a smooth texture. - Uni caviar egg - a little tangy, almost like yogurt but very creamy thanks to the uni. The caviar gave the egg a subtle truffle aroma. - Beef tongue - we always love beef tongue and this did not disappoint. They were perfectly seared, crunchy and juicy and paired well with the provided green onion sauce. - Ponzu tomato - probably one of the juiciest tomatoes we've ever had. The ponzu and citrusy flavors made this very refreshing and cut through the heavy meats we just had. Overall (5/5): Despite the fancy vibe of the dinner, the restaurant was pretty noisy and it was hard to hear each other at times. The location is also not the most spacious, so tables are seated closely - we could hear everything the table next to us were saying! Plenty of parking in there and super easy to locate this since you can drive past it on colima on your left hand side driving West. This is a Wagyu fine dining experience restaurant. If I remember correctly, it was opened back in 2016 or around that year. There is omakase option and à la carte option. I came last night for its DineLA menu which it is only $68. It was a great dining experience and the price was just about right. The previous time I came before last night was 8 years ago for their $150+ omakase experience. It was a decent experience with good wagyu meat but I wouldn't come here for their omakase again with that price since this place is like a less expensive clone version of Yazawa. If I can pay similar price or a little more for better quality food then what reasons do I have for choosing this place? This is a good place, I would still give this place a 4.5-5 star rating based on their service, setting and food, don't get me wrong but if i have a choice of picking the 2, I would pick Yazawa in Beverly Hill. 8 years later last night, I came here for the DineLa menu because their price of $68 caught my attention. It did not disappoint me and I felt like it was worth it. There were like 7-8 courses including soup and dessert. All tasted unique and good. Servers were quick to attend when we had questions and food came out fast. The only thing that bothered me a little ( not going to take away their star rating, just ranting ) was their water. The server asked me about the water I wanted to get giving me different options. She mentioned bottle of still water and without thinking that it would cost me money, i picked the still water ( the other 2 water options sounded more like I have to pay) . Not until when then bill came that I realized that it was $8. So please keep in mind to make sure to ask if the water is free before telling them know what kind of water you would like. Yakiya has been one of my favorite dining experience - from the food to the service, everything was pretty much perfect. My boyfriend and I saw that Yakiya was offering a Dine LA menu for a pretty good price, and the menu had a good variety of courses, not like others that only have 2 or 3. Yakiya's menu included 3 cuts of meat, 3 appetizers, fish, rice and broth, and a dessert, along with some palate cleansers and optional add-ons. The appetizers were absolutely mind-blowing; my favorite was the first wagyu tartare, but they all exploded with so much depth and flavor. Each cut of meat was grilled to perfection in front of us by the server, who was very friendly and made conversation with us while doing this. The rice was rich and filling, and the broth was nice to wash it down. Even the cheesecake and tomato palate cleanser were delicious! I think the sea bass stood out the least to me but to be honest, not a single dish was disappointing. The ambiance of the restaurant itself is very nice; it gives fine dining without being too intimidating. The servers and hosts are friendly and look kind. Also, this is an odd detail to point out but the toilets in the restrooms are from Japan and super high-tech! I loved every part of the meal and would come back even when Dine LA is no longer going on, but for those of you who are curious, I would definitely recommend trying this place while the deal is available! read more

Fiiiinally came here for our anniversary and were treated like royalty. The service from the women running the floor was flawlessly timed, down to the second. Tables are generously spaced, making the whole experience feel calm, focused, and intentional. The uni appetizer is easily one of the best bites I've had in my life, and their chawanmushi is, hands down, the softest and most delicate I've tasted. The fresh veggie plate offered a crisp, refreshing reset between courses, and the house-made rice cracker was deeply savory and full of flavor. We were surprised with complimentary drinks to celebrate--an alcoholic cocktail and a mocktail, since we drove ourselves. A thoughtful and delicious touch. And I've come three times after that haha - It is not cheap but you definitely get your money's worth in quality and entertainment. By entertainment, I mean the wait staff put in so much care and effort to explain where your next bite from the course meal was sourced and how it was prepared but ALSO... using the bone (that was used for the bone marrow fried rice) as a birthday shot luge - I hope that's still a thing after COVID because it was entertaining to watch my mom's inner party girl come out! Typically, I like leaner cuts of meat but Yakiya serves such high quality Japanese and American wagyu that I make an exception to that general rule. The course meal is engaging as the serving staff I always appreciate the explanation so I have an easier time estimating items to put in MFP. I want to start out by saying the food here was amazing and even though it's a bit costly, you definitely leave very full and satisfied. We got the $130 per person set menu and it was definitely worth the price. The only reason why I had to dock a star is because we were seated ~45 minutes after our scheduled reservation time - which was to celebrate a special day for me and my wife so that was a bit frustrating but the wait staff were very nice and kept on apologizing and updating us during the wait. The inside of the restaurant is a very minimalistic and clean aesthetic with lots of gold accents. The bathroom was also very clean and beautiful, and they even had a fancy toilet that greets you as you walk in and has a heated seat and bidet. The details of the restaurant really shine and make for a good dining experience. After we were finally seated, the host let us know that they were going to cover our drinks and anything we wanted to order a la carte. I appreciated that every dish was brought out relatively quickly one after the other and there was not much of a wait once we finished each item. The staff were obviously very apologetic but also attentive and friendly throughout our meal - they even bothered to write down our names for what ended up being a surprise personalized dessert! It was very clear that the menu was well thought out, the order of dishes worked really well together, and the flavors were well seasoned and unique. Each cut of meat was of high quality and left you wanting more, while also looking forward to every next dish coming out. The drinks were also very unique and tasty! Since we were celebrating a special occasion, they also gave us free sake and a whiskey luge shot using the bone marrow from our dish - never thought of using that before but it was great! At the end of the meal, the check did have our drinks taken off and an extra 20% discount which was nice of them to do without asking or reminding them! The manager also gave us coupons for free drinks the next time we visit, so that was nice that they truly felt bad about the wait and it showed throughout the whole experience. With two kids...I know, a little bit messy and less enjoyable but their cute little faces made up for it. We were greeted upon arrival and we were asked if we're here for any occasion, and asked for our names. We got seated right the way and a yuzu cleanser and towels to clean our hands. My toldder was very interested in the toddler bc he thought it was candies. Lol The food were good as usual with a minor mix up from time to time but keeping the classics. Whenever a plate gets to our table, our server would always give us a chance to take a picture first. It was kind of funny in a way but also a great advertisement for the restaurant. You're full by the end but not overly stuffed. The food was astronomical. Everything tasted amazing and the presentation was beautiful. The drinks were great too. We even did a bone marrow whiskey shot, where they pour it into your mouth through the bone and it was so fun! Our waiter made it really special too he was super funny. Wow my palate is definitely spoiled now. What a great experience from the pre-fixe/omakase menu, allowing us to trust their chef in providing their best bites for us! Not only is the restaurant beautiful, the service was exceptional as well. The entire experience was incredible, starting with a refreshing yuzu cleanser drink, followed by the wagyu, tataki, chawanmushi steamed egg, and finishing with a delicious wagyu bone marrow fried rice to make sure we're completely full and satisfied. It was definitely a hearty and filling meal! They also presented the certificate of authenticity for their A5 Wagyu which added a nice touch of upscale and professionalism to the experience. Celebrated some early birthdays here on March 25th and had a memorable time! Our waitress, Sunny was exemplary and took excellent care of us. We did the 10-course Yakiniku menu and every item was chef's kiss. Sunny cooked everything to perfection! The different cuts of beef were super flavorful and melt in your mouth tender. My favorite dish was the A5 wagyu nigiri & the beef tongue. Have been to Yakiya several times and each time, it reinforces why it's a top choice for special occasions! read more

From the moment we sat down, the omakase experience felt intentional, intimate, and thoughtfully paced. We came for the 15-course Chef's Tasting Menu. It's normally $128, but they were running a $98 per person special that we had to capitalize on. We began with a couple of drinks: -Skytree ($18): light and refreshing with a mild alcohol taste and subtle lychee sweetness. Was delicate and not boozy. -Cherry Blossom Mocktail ($13): tart yet sweet, somehow balanced in the most elegant way. We really enjoyed this. We opted to substitute out the raw beef (tartare) courses when asked, appreciating that they were flexible and accommodating. The courses: Course 1: A5 Wagyu Nigiri. One of the substitutions. Perfectly seared with a gentle hit of wasabi and citrusy yuzu. Course 2: Chawanmushi. Silky smooth egg custard with shiitake and braised abalone. Course 3: Local Market Crudite. Fresh veggies (cucumber, daikon, carrot) with a red miso paste (ssamjang-like) dip. Tasty, though the rice cracker was a little stale. Course 4-5: Signature & Thick Wagyu Beef Tongue. I normally don't like beef tongue, but the lemony green onion topping was bright, peppery, and addictively good. The thick cut had very fine, even scoring which was impressive. Course 6-8: American Wagyu (Harami Skirt Steak, Short Rib, Ribeye). Each paired with a hoisin-like oyster sauce. The Harami was less marbled but still delicious. The short rib was rich and fatty. The ribeye disappeared so fast I forgot to savor it. Course 9: A5 Kagoshima Zabuton. Buttery soft Wagyu with a wasabi side that cut through the fat beautifully. I didn't think it needed the wasabi, but I still enjoyed the pairing. Course 10: Marinated Refresher. Another course substitution. Tomatoes with kiwi and sesame seeds. Sounds unusual, but it worked...sweet, tangy, and palate-cleansing. Course 11-12: Prime Filet Mignon + Bone Marrow Fried Rice. The server scooped the bone marrow tableside and mixed it into the sizzling rice. The fried rice was crispy, buttery, and rich. The filet mignon was super tender. Course 13: Oxtail Soup with Daikon. Final course substitution. Comforting and clear broth with meaty depth. The daikon could've been a little softer. Course 14: A5 Kagoshima Ribeye + Poached Egg. Pure decadence. Mixing the yolk in created a luscious, savory-sweet bite. I missed the little fire show from last time, but flavor-wise, this was an unbeatable finale. Course 15: Dessert. Lemon sorbet with basil (zesty and herby) and a surprise white chocolate egg with liquid matcha inside. Our server was friendly, attentive, and knew the menu inside-out. He cooked every piece of meat perfectly and offered little insights along the way without hovering. Yakiya is intimate, interactive, and indulgent without feeling pretentious. Food is nice. Meat is very high quality and the appetizers are interesting. Don't recall what I ate specifically since it was a business meeting, but nothing bad. Service was amazing. They were on top of everything. They were on top of water and introduced each course with great detail - even making some conversation on the side. They even helped us wash strawberries we brought in. Ambiance was like any other fancy restaurant - dim lighting, soft music, and really empty (not sure why?). The 15-course omakase is a full-on experience that leaves you full and smiling every time. Favorites? The A5 Wagyu spoon with ponzu jelly, white truffle, and sansho pepper is purely additicting. The bone marrow rice is rich and unforgettable--and if you're celebrating a birthday, you'll be treated with a bone marrow shot! Such a fun and cool experience. The matcha balls... Fancy restaurant perfect for special occasions! They have a delicious set menu with wagyu made different ways and all plated beautifully. Servers are extremely professional and the whole experience is just amazing. The interior is very rustic and clean. I've been here for birthdays and special occasions and it's always exceeded expectations. The portions in the 15 course tasting menu may look small, but I was full by the end of it.
