The guy doing tickets basically shrugged. The crowd on this given night was pretty diverse and excited to hear DJ Lag, whose unique genre of electronic music kept most of us intrigued and entertained. No liquor license yet, which was a drag. A 5-star private social club in the Platinum Clubs of America, it is situated on Whitney Avenue near the Yale University campus, and two blocks from Ingalls Rink and State Street (home to Modern Apizza, our favorite in the Pizza Capital of the World). The New Haven Lawn Club offers five comfortable, spacious overnight guest rooms and one suite, a main dining room seating 200, and a grand ballroom seating 300 that was being used for a wedding reception the night we stayed there. The fitness center and four squash courts are open 24x7. Outdoors, there is a pool, toddler pool, eight Hart-tru tennis courts, two paddle courts and a playground. Guests enjoy free parking and wifi. We enjoyed pre-game cocktails in the bar off the Grill Room, accommodating 100, where lunch and dinner are served Wednesday-Saturday, and where seasonal Sunday brunch and supper are available. A unique feature of the club is art exhibits hung in the rotunda outside the Grill Room. Rebuilt in 1931 after a fire destroyed the original two years earlier, the clubhouse was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 2003. It also is designated A New Haven Landmark by the New Haven Preservation Trust.

I walked over here to the Blake to check things out... and it is so beautiful and modern! The rooms look amazing and spacious, and they have a stylish bar open for dinner. It's not open for breakfast, but Lori (the wonderful employee at the front desk) explained that they offer free coffee and tea and pastries in the morning and that each room also has an espresso machine. Sign me up! They are booked up for tonight, but I made a reservation to switch for the rest of my visit. I'm super excited to move over here and will update later.

She recognized I was a hot mess and took care of everything quickly and effortlessly. My room was modern, clean and very comfortable. What more could a weary traveler want?
