We spent Saturday night over Thanksgiving weekend here. The hotel is fine and in a good location. We were disappointed by the lack of service / desire for guests to have a good experience. Upon checking in at around 8:30pm we were looking forward to having a drink and maybe dessert. The website says that restaurant & bar are open until 9 weekdays and 10pm on Saturday. We were told that the bar & restaurant in lobby looked like it wanted to close and in fact we're closing. We were given the option to leave our bags at desk and go over. Not have bags brought to room, not to get settled & come back down. When we got to the floor we were staying on there was a cool enclosed rooftop bar. My daughter asked how late they would be open and was told "we just closed". When she asked what the hours were they just said well it is slow so we closed. A city hotel, holiday weekend one would expect an option to settle in a nice space and relax without heading out. I think we would be more likely to try the graduate hotel during our next trip to New Haven. A little customer service goes a long way. read more

She checked me in super fast, relieved me of my car even though I left it in the wrong place and didn't blink when I grabbed both coffee and wine from the cooler next to the desk. I'm writing this without receiving a final portfolio, so hopefully I don't have to come back and change my review. I chose The Blake because of its location, being pretty close to everything I wanted to see in New Haven, near Yale's campus, nearby dining options, and around a mile from Union and State Street train stations. I'm a Marriott girl, but the better Marriott was not centralized enough for my purposes. First, it was frustrating to never receive a confirmation email. Luckily, I kept the itinerary number from my reservation. I emailed the hotel and never heard back. Finally, a few days before, I called the hotel to make sure I actually had a room and to confirm my reservation. After my call, I finally received an email. And now, after checking out, I have not received a folio, which makes me a little nervous. Some people complained of being charged incidentals that were not appropriate, but I can only go on my personal experience so far and hope nothing happens! Service is a bit cool and reserved, but adequate. They have a nice pantry with snacks (nuts, cheese, hummus/pretzels etc), water, gatorade and other drinks, as well as boozier options. I booked the deluxe king. The room is spacious, clean, modern. I was on the second floor and overlooked a parking lot, so I didn't have much of a view, but that's okay, I was gone most of the time. The bed was pretty comfortable, the linens were decent. I wasn't expecting this boutique hotel to be equipped with a full kitchen and refrigerator and glassware (which was SUPER clean!). This would be great for a long term stay, but I was only in for the weekend. Regardless, the fridge was handy for my leftover pizza from Pepe's! The bathroom/shower is nice, love the provided products. People complained of noise and being able to hear people through the walls, but other than the last morning, with housekeeping being next door, I never had any issues. There is a restaurant downstairs, reviewed separately, which was "fine." The common spaces are chic and warm, with slub velvet and warm fabrics. Lots of lounging and meeting spaces. For three nights, my pre-bill was just over 800 dollars. They took 300 dollars for incidentals. Again, I don't have a final folio. If all is well, my review stands here. If there are issues, I'll be back. But overall, this is a great hotel and nearby everything you need in New Haven. read more

Modern Boutique Hotel a little out of the way from the main foot traffic. Our room was large, with a kitchenette (refrig, micro, sink etc) but smelled like a smoking room. Loved the hardwood floors. We stayed at the Blake for a night when we were in New Haven this past Fourth of July weekend. I picked it for its location, but it turned out to be a really nice stay overall. The location was everything I'd thought it would be - walkable to everything on the Yale campus and some great restaurant and bar options. The room was also huge and very comfortable (it seemed as large as three rooms in other hotels)! The customer service at the front desk was great (very helpful). Parking is valet only so keep that in mind when you're looking at the price of a room. They have a bar downstairs, but it's the bar on the 6th floor that is definitely worth a visit (great views, tons of plants, open air - it's beautiful on a nice day). And the gym was great, too - large, with great equipment, very comfortable for a workout while staying at the hotel. Overall, it was a very nice place to stay for a day of exploring Yale and New Haven! read more

We do enjoy staying in boutique type of hotels, so we tend to look for those when visiting somewhere. My other half has stayed here before on her own, but I haven't. Wasn't tough to find using a GPS map, look for the driveway as you pull in, it takes you directly into valet. Friendly greetings as we arrived for check-in, check-in process was fairly straightforward. As we checked it, got settled a little, unpacked, went to dinner up the block, came back an hour or so later, got comfy, about an hour of enjoying the room, while chillin on the bed, I noticed something move across the baseboard.....shiiiit, it was a mouse!!! Ran from behind the kitchen lower cabinets, behind the dresser cabinet, across the length of the room and hooked a left behind the AC unit. Then ran back to where it came from. We didn't panic, we decided to get up, call the front desk and explain what happened and requested a new room. They were apologetic and came up and delivered a new key to a different room on a different floor. We packed up and left to go to our other room. No other offers were made or any comps, no follow up from any managers or mention during check-out. The next few days, no issues with the other room. We definitely looked around and banged on the cabinets to see if anything ran out. It's a nice modern looking hotel, a bit pricey, good location to Yale, a lot of restaurants and cafe's around, they have a water refiller, nice gym, valet guys are quick, but with the unfortunate pest issue after we checked-in, I have to give them a 2 star. We will probably consider looking at other options when back in town. read more

This place is hot garbage. Don't be fooled by the magazine aesthetic in the pictures. The walls are paper thin, there's noise at all hours of the night, and the worst part everyone is so unhelpful. This is the worst experience I've ever had at a hotel. I had to book somewhere else and leave at midnight because the noise was so unbearable. The front desk refused to change my room, was completely nonchalant about the matter, and the manager supposedly called out due to "personal issues" the next day when I tried to speak to one LOL!! It was just comical how terrible this place was that my wife and I couldn't help but laugh as we packed up to leave in the dead of night. Please don't make the mistake of staying here. I'm currently trying to get my booking fee refunded and of course I'm getting the around with this too. Completely awful experience. read more

Spent New Year's Eve at the Blake and stayed overnight, as friends were hosting a private party there. The room was spacious and very clean. As far as the dinner service, the food was very good and the drinks well made. The lobby was a tad busy, but I chop that up to there being multiple parties going on on NYE. My first issue was that, after sight-seeing on Yale University campus all day in 80+ degree heat, I was eager to check into the hotel and take a nice hot shower. After peeling off my sweaty clothes and getting into shower, I found that the refillable body wash container was completely empty. I had to get out of the shower to open the small hand soap to shower with. Then, after dinner in drinks in the rooftop bar, went back to my room expecting to chill in the room and fall asleep watching TV. No TV service at all and even if it did work, the channel selection was poor (strangely, the TV turned on and channel selection showed, but clicking on any cannel ended up with a black screen. There were buttons for Netflix and YouTube but both wanted you to log into your own account, neither of which i have, smh...) I called down to the front desk but the person who answered wasn't really helpful and sounded like this is a regular problem. The website said great staff and friendly, this was far from what I experienced. The front desk was cluttered with stacks of paper and packages. It was so weird, the staff were stone faced and like zombies. Never made eye contact, smiled or connected in any way. I can't recommend this hotel because of the cold, uncaring staff. read more

We had a nice stay here over valentines day weekend. The rooms seem to be geared towards extended stay and come with a full kitchen. I liked that the lobby was pretty big and had lots of space if people wanted to meet up, study or just hang out. Hopefully we can come back when it's warmer so we can check out the roof top! The bathroom was super nice and spacious. I really liked how modern, clean and stylish the hotel was overall. All the staff I interacted with were friendly. We were able to get a Saturday dinner reservation at the Hamilton Park bar which we appreciated because it was super cold that weekend and we didn't want to walk anywhere. Negatives: We were not able to call valet from our room so it made us a little late one morning as we were waiting quite a bit. I felt that the kitchen was not necessary for our purposes and wish some rooms came without it. read more

VERY nice and modern rooms, and spotlessly clean as well. I'm told that it's pretty new construction. I brought my own Chromecast but had issues connecting to it so wasn't able to watch my own videos (YMMV). Their TVs are inconveniently mounted to the wall in a way that makes it SUPER hard to plug in your own HDMI cable and pretty much requires assistance from hotel staff. The biggest flaw is how thin the walls are. I could hear any time my neighbor spoke at a normal volume and was bothered by the occasional ruckus down the hall. It's surrounded by various restaurants and food in walkable distance, so the fridge in the room was a great perk. read more

This hotel recently opened up in New Haven and my friend was raving about how beautiful it was. We went on a Friday night for a late bite and I was impressed by the decor of the lobby/restaurant. The architectural layout was superb. We sat at the bar & I got a scallops & fries based on the feedback from the waitress. For my drink, they didn't have a sweet wine so she mixed Prosecco with a flavorful liquer which was pretty decent. Food came out quickly and I was not impressed wholly. The scallops were good but the fries were so underwhelming. I'm a fries snob so I know good fries. My friend's pasta was also lacking in taste per his comments. So why 4 stars? Well the staff is why they are receiving 4 stars. Our waiter Braheim (spell check) and our waitress, (her name escapes me) were amazing. Even though it was late their demeanor was welcoming and they took their time serving us. Service like that is hard to come by. I loved the beautiful, modern, spacious rooms and the convenience of having the kitchenette features. I was on the 4th floor and didn't hear any of the street noise that's common in this area with ambulances constantly driving by. This was a huge relief! The rooms were very clean. The full equipped gym is amazing!!! Kettlebells, kick boxing, weights and the other standard cardio equipment. The restaurant was really packed during dinner and looked to be a popular spot. It doesn't offer the option to bill to the room. The rooftop bar is currently open from Wednesday- Sunday and looks fancy. Fast internet and easy to connect. Super combenkemt to Yale! I have platinum status with Marriott and diamond with Hilton but none of the chain hotels offer anything close to the amenities available here. The rates are all comparable. I think the speed and friendliness of desk operations could be improved but fairly understandable for a new hotel. It would have been nice to get a rewards system but really not a deal breaker given the nearby options. Would definitely return and highly recommend! read more

Our one night stay at the Blake Hotel was perfect. It was our last hotel on our 6 day travel around New England and it was by far the nicest hotel. We enjoyed the mid century modern touches in the room. Everything was sleek and clean. The room was comfortable and was equipped with anything you could possibly need, including a nespresso machine. Staff is friendly and helpful, even delivered coffee to our room in the morning. Conveniently located near downtown New Haven and Yale University, this place is steps away from dining, drinks and fun. You don't even really need to leave the hotel because they have a restaurant and rooftop bar available on premises. If I find myself in New Haven again, I will be booking a room with The Blake Hotel again! read more

I really loved this hotel. Everyone that works here are so friendly, the ambience was great, and the room was wonderful. I really liked the vibe at this hotel. The only negatives are there isn't a gym, and there isn't a pool. Right when you step in, it really feels home-y. And it's such a nice respite from the cold outside. But the room is everything you could ask for. The kitchenette was super functional, even though I never used it. The beds were so comfortable! And the bathroom was great. There is no tub, but the walk-in shower is huge. We were provided free water everyday, and you also get dark chocolates everyday. I highly recommend this hotel. It's 10 pm at The Blake Hotel in a fifth-floor room that rented for $620. For at least the past hour, the noise from upstairs has been constant - bumping, thumping, bashing, crashing. So I call down to the desk. "Is it possible that some people upstairs have been moving furniture around for the past hour or so?" Yes. Turns out, the answer is yes. It's the restaurant. The restaurant! "When do they close?" At 11 pm, but they'll be done up there around 1 am. Are you serious? 1 am? This isn't a one-time thing, folks. This is the restaurant. It's every night. This room - the room I'm in - is one of the most expensive in New Haven, if not the entire state. Yet it should never be rented. It is a shameful travesty of the hotelier industry. The people here are nice. The design is nice. Those are the only reasons they get a star. I would give zero if I could. Shameful, shameful, shameful. read more

We drove 2.5 hours to go to the hotel, planning to attend a birthday party nearby the next day. Intending to surprise me, my boyfriend had purchased an extra package of flowers, champagne, chocolates left on the pillow, etc. After a not inconsiderable drive he was anticipating my reaction to that. None of that was done. After speaking with the front desk, none of his issues with the situation were resolved. They agreed to refund him and we left and took a long drive home. Even after all of that, I was considering not leaving a review. My boyfriend can be hard to talk to, mistakes happen, and I was not privy to the conversation. However, I was additionally surprised to hear a staff member comment that even that same day another similar package had been neglected to be performed. Additionally, today his card just got charged for the cost of the room, despite the agreement that that would not happen. At this point I'm considerably disappointed. Last week we had our daughter's bridal shower at the Siena Ristorante..,Naitza is the Events Manager. I cannot express how absolutely perfect that day was with her coordination and professionalism in a casual yet elegant setting made the day an amazing experience. With 40 people in attendance, the compliments I was receiving from just about every person in the room at how delicious the food was how beautiful the space was!! We arrived yesterday and we were greatly by a wonderfully helpful valet named Conner. He escorted us to the front desk where I checked in which was fast and easy. As i checked in Conner helped my husband unload the car. He even helped us up to our room and unloaded the luggage cart. I find that this level of service is a dying breed in the hotel industry The hotel is about 2 years old and has fantastic little touches such as placing your room key at the front door of your room to power the room. What a brilliant thought- I never had to turn off a light- just took my card and off we went. Spacious, modern and stylish. I was very satisfied with my stay at the Blake hotel. The environment was very cool yet relaxed. The hotel gave me Scandinavian vibes with its minimalism and coziness. The corner room I stayed in was very spacious, clean and full of natural light. There was even a living area with a mini kitchen adjoining it. I was slightly disappointed that the fridge wasn't stocked with more beverages though, that's a minor gripe. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone that's visiting New Haven. read more

November 2023 I am appalled to have to write this. My family went to New Haven and stayed at the Blake on November 21st 2023 my birthday. My wife left a small case in the glove box (her mistake) it contained about $3500 worth of receipt proven jewelry. We handed our keys to the valet and went inside. Valet parked our suburban 10 feet from the door and it stayed there all night. Apparently the valet attendants left the doors unlocked and 2 thieves broke into our car stealing the case. Next day we scoured the car and my wife left in tears with 5 days left on our trip. The manager Marrisa called me and said they caught the whole thing on camera and yes the car was in fact left unlocked. It's May 20th and the hotel has yet to do anything about this. Manager Justin was called 2 months ago and said he was shocked it hadn't been resolved and he would call me later the same day. 2 months later I'm still being ghosted by management and I guess customer satisfaction and security isn't a priority. My wife had well over $20,000 worth of jewelry with her. The small case was all that was taken aprox $3500. Obviously it's not the money loss that appeals me it's the general lack of response or care for customers throwing down significant money to stay in a hotel. This is a review for the hotel itself, not the restaurant inside (Hamilton Park). I usually come to New Haven 2 - 3 times a year for business or Yale alumni events. Until now, I've always stayed at either the Courtyard Marriott (because of Marriott loyalty + location close to the law school) or The Study (because it's sleek and modern, and my best friend prefers it). The Blake, as the newest kid downtown, is now a strong competitor in my mind compared to either of those options. It's as chic and laidback as The Study, but a bit fresher and a little warmer/plusher -- and slightly more convenient if you're looking to be near the medical or public health schools. Also a great option for extended stays, as each room has a well-appointed kitchenette with Nespresso machine, dish washer, two-burner cooktop, fridge, etc. The guest rooms are thoughtfully designed with soft bedding and comfy robes, plentiful outlets throughout, various options for task and mood lighting (though small complaint: the trendy, industrial lighting at the desk was pretty harsh), and nice bathrooms with Malin + Goetz-branded amenities. There's a limited room service dinner menu available from Hamilton Park, the restaurant in the lobby, and at least when I ordered it was delivered quickly (20 min) and was really tasty. There is coffee available in the lobby in the morning. The lobby has lots of seating, and there is a conference room available to host a business meeting. I worked with this location for a private event I was hosting. Nicole Maldonado assisted me with the menu, room, etc. she was wonderful and always available to discuss shifting priorities. The lobby of the hotel is nicely decorated and all the staff I interacted with were cordial. For my event it was a nice touch to have the chef come out and introduce themself to me. The staff assigned to my event were accommodating and prompt. Overall experience was great, will continue to work work with them! read more

Stylish decor and comfortable bed but terribly loud with the vinyl plank floors, gaps under the room doors, and loud voices and high heels once the partiers returned around one. Sleep deprived after a night on the fifth floor. Will stay elsewhere next time. read more

Fantastic modern rustic hotel, perfect location and stunning decor all throughout. My room on the 5th floor was quiet, spotless, incredibly comfortable (luxury pillows & robes), with nice views and equipped with everything I needed (Nespresso!) in the fully functional kitchenette. I stayed for 10 nights in summer and it was a perfect 5-10min walk to all the Yale sights, downtown park shopping, and the much noteworthy dining experiences all on the same block. I also often dined onsite at their beautifully decorated Hamilton Park restaurant, and every single dish I tried was nothing short of outstanding. Everyone took such great care of me, a special shoutout to Adriana for the top notch service and perfect dinner recommendations of Chef's delectable culinary delights! Fri & Sat nights they open up the airy rooftop High George restaurant/bar and was a surreal ambiance, and was easily closed in when the monsoon July rains came rolling in, but could still enjoy the lightening show. Before we left we even got all our laundry done, so coming home is even great because of The Blake Hotel. THANK YOU! I'll look forward to returning one day. read more

Our stay at the Blake Hotel was hilariously awful. We were in town for one night for an early appointment at the Yale Medical Center down the street. This place was pricey, but we figured it was worth it based on the trendy decor and great location. And the other reviews of this place seemed good! Everything seemed fine when we checked in. It's really clean and the layout is nice. Upon check-in, I'd asked for a room in a lower floor by chance, but they happened to be sold out and had something else on the 3rd floor but we figured our original room on the 5th floor might be more comfortable because there wouldn't be anyone above us. Oh boy, were we wrong. At 9:20PM, noises that sounded like a construction site began--right above our heads as we were trying to sleep. Big noises. Like jackhammers being slammed and dragged across our ceiling. I called the front desk, and the manager on duty, Timika, told me, "its just the rooftop bar closing. They'll be all done by 10." That seemed like a long time, but I was easygoing about it. I figured as long as I got to sleep by 10, I'd be able to get up early enough for the appointment the next day. Wrong again! The noises continued until past midnight. When I called, Timika assured me the noises would be over soon. On my second call, she offered us another room, but we (naively, on my part) believed that the noises would be over soon. She later offered us a 20% discount. (For a sleepless night and the price we paid, this just seems laughable.) We just wanted to get a relaxing night before this big appointment at the medical center. ANYWAYS that did not happen and I feel the need to share this experience so you guys are sure to avoid the top floor of this hotel at all costs. Or better yet, be safe and skip this place altogether. Great location in walking distance of Yale, restaurants, Art Museum, 1mile from Amtrak and right off the highway. A great stay for business travelers (but certainly not within per diem). The Blake has only been open a few weeks but it's off to a bad start indeed. They claim to have valet parking but if they do it fills up fast and they won't give you much help finding a place for your car. That brings me to the neighborhood which is dangerous to say the least. When we finally found a garage we were accosted by no less than 6 nasty looking dealers trying to sell us drugs. The apartment parking lot across the street has a resident hooker waiting for you when you pull in to drop your bags. Breakfast is cold quiche and muffins at $4 each. So the Blake gets 4 stars for scoring drugs or for a paid romantic encounter but 1 star for service, location and amenities read more

We stayed here for two nights in February and liked it very much. The interior design of the hotel is exactly what I like: clean and current design elements, comfortable furniture, and a warm feeling. The hotel smells wonderful and the bar is well-designed. Our room was comfortable, and coffee service in the morning was right on time. The staff - front desk, bar, valet, maid- were all pleasant and helpful. I subtract a star because, although the lighting fixtures in the room are beautiful, the actual lighting is terrible. My husband struggled to see while working at the desk, I struggled to apply makeup in front of the bathroom mirror, and I couldn't see the effects of my ironing on a dress without moving over to the window. The hotel should put wall-mounted illuminating mirrors in the bathrooms and lamps on the desks. Aside from the lighting, though, I liked it very much and would stay here again. read more

I can say nothing but great things about The Blake New Haven. I must tell you how wonderful our stay was at this establishment and rave about the employees. We made reservations at the New Have hotel after an absolute disaster at another establishment. We called The Blake at 12:00am the day that we needed reservations, for a wedding after our original accommodations were a nightmare. We worked with Joe who was a blessing to us. He was so accommodating and did everything in his power to make this stay beautiful. He upgraded the bride and groom to a suite and had rooms for the bridal party on the same floor. He was more than hospitable and was so helpful, even when we had to call three or four times to make changes or with questions. It was such an honor to then meet him when we all checked into the rooms and thank him in person. The staff the next morning was equally exceptional. The level of professionalism and hospitality is outstanding. The property itself was gorgeous and beyond comfortable. You feel relaxed and relieved the second you walk through the doors. The amenities in all of the rooms were like any other hotel I have stayed in. Each room had a double range stove (hot plate style built into the counters), and espresso machines! The shower and the toiletries were exceptional and made the stay even more enjoyable. I cannot thank you enough or say enough good things. I can tell you that if I'm ever in the area or near a Blake Hotel when traveling this will be my home away from home.
