It's so nice to see such a place like this go into town. As soon as you enter, you are immediately hit with the light scent of homemade goodness (or maybe that's just the lavender and goat milk soap!) I wish I could just bottle it up and have my home smell like that. Everything on sale in here is made by local artisans. From deodorant, decorative candles, soaps and scrubs, wine glasses and mugs, wooden furniture and signs, beauty products, clothing....there is truly something unique here for everyone. Lots of organic and fair trade items as well. I had the pleasure of meeting Stephani, one of the owners while we (my son and I) were there and she is just the sweetest. Note- 3 stars given for quality of product, and the potential to be a great Welcoming place for all! Discussions, instructions, classes, and general questions, not advisable. If you choose to do so, you may be discouraged and ditch your project. Being a newbie, and not using the correct "beading terms" does not make you a dunce. Trust in your own talent and ideas! I would think it is the duty of any teacher to welcome and encourage new students, no matter the project, or level. Sadly this was not the case at Bead Hive, on this particular day, however I will give them benefit of the doubt. Obviously the business has plenty of customers, so perhaps it was an off day? I understand the former owner of Bead Hive who unfortunately passed away, was a local treasure. I'm sure she would be disappointed to see missed opportunities for new customers and repeat business, go unrecognized. This is only a matter of finding a system that works, and I truly hope they find it. The classes offered at Bead Hive have experienced instructors-MFA level....yes it's true! Class size -6 or 7 students Max, the room is very small and overheated at times, with new customers continually entering and in need of help, causing the instructors to become a little flustered and and the students experience disjointed. If "out of the box" projects, are not encouraged, I would say it's due to lack of time. They have yet to develop a system to teach in a constructive orderly fashion, and accommodate incoming customers. I truly understand easier said than done for small businesses. Michaels Craft store Guilford....classes are new and still need improving, but show promise. . Huge selection of products all in one location. Big crafts room fully stocked! For Formal classes: Guilford Hand Craft Center, they also offer fantastic kids programs. My husband even took a class, and loved it! The last word..... Darlings...Please try to think of it this way.... When it's 8pm and your child tells you they have a craft project due the next morning!
