It is your average run of the mill yarn shop. They do have lots of samples including some cute lobster themed stuff. We were there on vacation and were ignored until I sought out help finding locally dyed yarn. Even then the person was curt and it felt like I was bothering her. We did not buy anything and I do not think we'd go back. Honestly the dog was the best part. read more

I am visiting York beach and since it was a rainy day I decided to buy some yarn and crochet a baby sweater. When I entered I was greeted and asked if I had been there before. I explained that I was visiting from New York- " we won't hold that against you" I was told. Then the store layout was explained. When I went to check out apparently I had not got the package for the buttons and was told " well we don't know all the prices off the top of our heads" Possibly the snark is folksy but I won't be going back even though I visit Maine often. read more

Stopped into this shop on the way home. I hoped it would be a great shop when I saw the full parking lot and I was not disappointed. The ladies working were friendly and the shop was full of yarn, but it was sorted in a way that made it easy to browse. There were lots of representations of beautiful projects, as well. I don't consider myself more than intermediate in my crochet skills so sometimes I feel overwhelmed in yarn shops but this one was welcoming. I'll definitely be back next time we drive through York. read more

This store is tucked into a strip mall, with a store that sells our fancy holistic dog food, and a place to get decent sweet and sour chicken, so it gets points for one-stop shopping opportunity. The yarn selections are thoughtful and lovely. Lots of natural fiber yarns, organized well and in decently-sized bins. Some of my favorites are here, including Mountain Colors, Trekking, some of the nicer Berocco line, and a lot of standbys like Lamb's Pride and Cascade. The knit sock samples displayed were helpful. There's also a small stock of local yarns, which I always appreciate in local yarn stores. And the novelty yarns are hidden away in a corner, almost out of sight, like they have them in case you're into that sort of thing, but they would rather you work with nice, natural fiber, more classic yarn. I appreciate that. I picked up a skein of Noro Cashmere Island, and the salesperson was friendly and personable. Yay. read more

This yarn shop is located in a quaint little house on Route 1. As soon as I stepped in I saw many charming things, including Louet spinning wheels and accessories, artfully-fashioned metal orifice hooks, and hand-crafted yarn minders. On a table in the front is a large container of old fashioned buttons that you can sort through to pick out the ones you want. They carry items from Addi, Chiagoo, and Lantern Moon including the adorable tape measures that look like sheep. The yarn selection is respectable with selections for anyone's pocketbook. Plymouth Encore, Brown Sheep and Cascade yarns are well represented, along with nice yarns from local farms. There are sales on yarn; this weeks was Knitting Fever's Merino Flounce for $20 a skein. At the back of the store is a clearance shelf with discontinued and last of the lot skeins. The Yarn Sellar carries needle felting supplies including a large kit of different colors of fleece, a box of Romney fleece for spinning (the sheep, not the erstwhile Presidential candidate), books, patterns and notions. The interior is very homey, which makes sense because it's in a house. The best of it is the large table where you can sit and knit if you want. I wish I had a couple of hours to spend knitting there. The woman working there was very helpful and friendly. Next time I'm in the area, I plan to stop in again. read more

Such a great find! I came on vacation with no knitting supplies and sought out this shop to get a relaxing project to work on. Usually when I go to a yarn store with no plan I just walk out with sock yarn (which is great) but this store had great samples to choose from! Also, lots of yarn selection, local and not so local. The owner helped me with yarn and a pattern and was very sweet. There were a handful of people in the shop and she did a great job attending to all of us. Wish this was my LYS!! read more

I love this yarn store - wonderfully friendly and helpful staff, great selection of yarn and fiber for spinning as well as notions and books. I love this location - it's in a cute little house right on Rte 1 that has plenty of room for all of the yarn as well as two big tables and chairs for knitters/crocheters to settle in and enjoy knitting with great company. Definitely one of the best stores in the area! read more
