The jewelry is unbelievable and I could have stayed all day going through the vast selection. I couldn't afford any of the jewelry but it was wonderful to look at and wish for. My friend found the hat she wanted and we were completely satisfied, not to mention that the owner is such a cute and friendly woman. She makes the experience at the store even more special! I have never once had anything but a positive experience. The current owner is always willing to help, responsive, reasonable and professional. Yes the hats are expensive but it is a high end hat store and the hats are made by craftsman from around the world. If you want a mass produced hat that everyone has then I suggest Macy's or Target. To miss a visit to this store due to the google reviews would be a shame for the fashion lover looking for a quality piece. I also do not understand people not calling the owner to voice their complaints or concerns before becoming a keyboard warrior and falsely accusing an establishment abs trying to harm someone's livelihood based on one experience.

While I was in the dressing room trying on clothes, I was talking softly to my baby to comfort her. The employee stood right outside the dressing room and was giggling at what I was saying, which made it very clear she was listening and hovering nearby. Instead of feeling like a customer, I felt like I was being monitored, as if there was concern I might steal something. And then as I came out of the fitting room and let her know I didn't find anything and thanked her, she went straight into the room, I have no doubt to make sure I didn't steal anything. As a mom just trying to shop with her baby, this felt really discouraging and unwelcoming. I left feeling uncomfortable and out of place. I hope the boutique can work on creating a more inclusive and respectful environment for all customers.

When trying things on she urged us to be careful with the dresses as if saying they wouldn't fit and then allowed absolutely no kind customer service to shine through in our interaction. While we could hear her interactions with other customers as sub par customer service, we were disappointed by how she acted towards us considering we are frequent customers. This was a very unfriendly experience and environment and I hope nobody else has an interaction like that!

Still an aesthetically pleasing place to browse, and they have a select quantity of beautiful clothing, shoes, and accessories. So many lovely, quality items! This year I bought two ample-sized shawl/wrap/scarves (Daisy big wrap) for when it eventually gets cold (it was in the 80s the day I bought them, but I know winter is a-comin'). They are incredibly soft, and come in the most gorgeous colors (I bought one in a deep plum color, and another in a rich teal. I hate winter, but I will be prepared to keep warm in style. The wraps were just $24, and I already know I'll be getting many compliments when I wear these. I also bought a light, airy poncho that can be worn several ways. I bought one here last year--in indigo--and I wear it over solid-colored basics. I never fail to get compliments on it (and it adds just the right amount of light warmth and coverage, as well as a pop of color--sorry, I normally stay away from using overplayed terms like that, but it fits). It's the Van Klee poncho, just $22, and I got one in fuschia. I fell in lust with some of their fabulous jewelry but had to get back to my laundry. I think I'll be back before heading home on the weekend. As noted in my previous review, the ladies working in the shop were friendly and helpful, but not right on top of me as I shopped (thank you, thank you). This is my favorite shop in York.

I was drawn in to Hazel by some casual pull on pants, perfect for the kind of traveling I do, on their sale rack. Though I didn't get them, I tried on loads of clothes while my husband had a long and extremely enjoyable conversation about music with the absolutely wonderful sales clerk. Truth be told, all of the brands I tried on are national and could be gotten anywhere but I did end up with one pair of pants at a great sale price. Veering away from the sale rack I noticed an excellent curated collection of jewelry, shoes, scarves, and clothes.

I have been making purchases from Darn Good Yarn for a good while now. I've gotten a view into their world as growing online as a small business. I first learned about Darn Good Yarn from a photographer friend of mine who shared one of their skirt promos through our connection on Facebook. And she learned about Darn Good Yarn through a belly dancing troupe that she photographs. I, myself, had first started out my working "professional life" in specialty retail. I regularly dealt with imports, shipments, etc. I'm including this because at least to me it makes a difference in understanding the entire process and what it takes to produce a product and get it out there. It is my understanding that Darn Good Yarn is a small specialty retail business that strives to to work to be more eco-friendly/environmentally conscious and is in the business of supporting and empowering women. They are bringing something a bit exotic from around the world. I have ordered and received over a dozen of their Sari silk blend skirts. I have also ordered and received several of their Sari cotton blend skirts. I've pretty much ordered them in every length available. For the most part, the skirts are coming from India/Pakistan. The materials for the skirts are remnants/recycled materials. They are being pieced together by a select number of women. It's not off some factory line. There's a real positive community feel to it. I include this to stress that this isn't a "give me, give me now" mind numbing industrialized deal. While they seem to be able to ship almost anywhere, their headquarters is on the east coast of the U.S. That puts them on E.S.T. They're not exactly 24 hours. Sure, you can place the order and purchase online any time but there are still regular working hours. That's simply a reminder that not everything is instantaneous in reality. I can easily say that 99% of my orders have met my expectations and beyond. I've ordered and purchased enough to have a minimal number of oops moments. They're not perfect. No one is. But for the minor mishaps, I had no problems or issues contacting them and they were quick to fix those mishaps. It was resolved easily and timely. They have so many good messages and community outreach efforts. They have what's called the DoDarnGood campaign where if you purchase one of the silk Sari skirts at full price, they will donate another to a woman in need. A neighboring business had a fire and they donated some of their proceeds to help out that business to recover. They are anything but about blind consumption. For the products I have received, I have gotten countless compliments. I regularly have complete strangers come up to me and ask me about the sari skirts. They're very much like potato chips. You can't just have one. I've ordered so many now that I feel like I have a sense of the different women who create these skirts. I have no idea of their names but just feel like they do leave a bit of a personal signature and character on each skirt. They're not all cookie cutter. I personally love that feel. It's more personal. I love these guys and their mission. I am sure to be ordering from them again and again. read more

I ordered twice from this company; the orders were placed within two days of each other and I received my first order without any issue, but the second order is where it all went down the toilet. The nutshell version: not only is the yarn not that great, but I never received my second order from them - plus their customer service was nowhere near helpful, until I got PayPal involved (thank goodness I paid through them). It took over a month and a half for me to get my refund, during which time many of my emails were left ignored, and I was left frustrated. They also seem to screen their calls; I tried to speak to them by phone about the issue, but no one ever picked up - except for the voice message recording telling me to leave a message. No, thanks. I have posted a more detailed review over on Sitejabber (Yelp apparently has a word limit), if anyone is interested in reading the full story (www.sitejabber.com/reviews/www.darngoodyarn.com?rid=2). It's long, but describes what I dealt with when trying to resolve a huge issue with this company. Bottom line: I will NEVER buy from this company again (even if the yarn was as good as their name implies), after getting continuously screwed over for so long. I do not recommend DGY, and I am so glad to finally be done with them. They make themselves sound super great, but they have no clue what it takes to be a good business. My profile photo says it best, just sayin'. ETA: It's interesting how there are suddenly super great reviews after getting so many bad ones. Companies may not be able to change or delete reviews, but I bet they can make fake profiles to give themselves more stars... ETA again: I looked through the "Not Recommended" reviews and noticed a trend: every time a bad review is posted, a flood of good ones get posted after, and most of the users that posted those "good" ones, have only reviewed here and appear to be false accounts. Nice try, DGY. What, do you pay people to pretend they ordered from you? Either way, it's making your company look even worse. read more

I have ordered twice from DGY and been extremely pleased with every aspect of both transactions. The first time, I ordered the 3 pack of cotton elephant skits for myself, they came quickly and they were snatched up so quickly by my assortment of girls, I had to order again. The cotton skirts washed nicely (I was afraid of the color running). I washed them in cold water and vinegar first but since then they have been thrown in the with the multitude of laundry that 5 girls can make. My second order was for the 3 pack and the 10-pack mystery Sari Silk skirts. They are beautiful! Amazingly, there was something to make everyone happy. From the youngest (8) to the oldest (60 - that's me). Four of the skirts had blemishes, but it is stated quite clearly that these are recycled and I was expecting some signs of wear. Out of the 4, two washed up very nicely and the wrap around covered anything obvious. My older two girls liked the fact that they were not brand new and upcycled so they would not feel guilty if they dropped pizza sauce on them. One of them had a very ugly and dark stain on the front that could not be hidden and another had a few oil stains on the top fabric that was a plain color. I emailed DGY and my email was answered with an automated email (weekend) and then was followed by an email from Sonya (on Monday) asking me to send photos of the skirts. I did, and even though they could have told me that it clearly stated the "Mystery Box" had a no-return, no refund policy, they have worked to make me a happy and satisfied customer. On top of that, they sent me a $10 coupon on a future order. Just for the record - the skirts were too large for my 8 year old but she is determined, she wrapped and wrapped until I just put another button hole in for her. They are too big and long for her but fit my 12 year old (size 12) just fine. I am going to use the coupon for those chunky cool socks next! read more

I have ordered several of their sari skirts and I love them! I have the ones that are made from recycled saris so sometimes you may find a minor flaw or sometimes a few random flowers embordered on (which I love). You do not get to pick your patterns or colors, so make sure you tell them colors you do like in the comment section when your order. Do NOT tell them what you DON'T want (ex: No orange), because that might get misread and you wind up with orange. The skirts are reversible, so you can wear either side. Sometimes one side may be exactly the colors you love, and the other may not be your favorite (I only have one skirt that I'm not all that excited about one of the sides... the other side is gorgeous). The skirts are light and airy. I have been wearing them all summer and they are super comfortable. In the fall, I'll be adding long leggings underneath. I did receive one skirt that had an issue. The one side is gorgeous and can easily be worn. The other side is a beautiful floral green, BUT the fabric clearly sat folded in the sun for a long time because there is a huge sun bleach streak across it, so that side cannot be worn. When I contacted Darn Yarns about it, they asked for pictures and the number on the tag (FYI, in case you need to contact them). I sent pictures, but I had already cut out the tag for washing. They apologized and replaced the skirt at no charge. The communication team was polite and fast! Very happy!! I will say I have only ordered their skirts. I have never purchased yarn or patterns or anything else from them. read more

Sadly, the wholesome ethos publicised on DGY's website does not carry through the company, especially NY headquarters. Nicole Snow & most (not all) of her team are money-hungry charlatans. DGY has a private FB group for loyal customers. Special sales & discount offers take place within the FB group. Nicole's team essentially endeavour to whip their customers into a garment buying frenzy within the private FB group. The more product you buy, the more product dangled temptingly in your eyeline. DGY has a loyalty point system called karma points. Like other establishments, a purchase in USD amounts to the building up of karma points, which 'Should' be available as a discount against future orders. The frustrating thing is that most of DGY's sales Do Not permit customers to use their karma points to reduce the amount paid over to Nicole's company. So, you're spending USD and your karma points balance is rising (without an avenue to redeem it against). Furthermore, Nicole cannot abide any sort of reasoned dispute. Question some of her company rules or be so bold as I was, as to seek a refund for undelivered orders, and she will expel you from the private DGY Facebook group. Way to go Nicole Snow! It takes a lifetime to build a loyal customer base, & just one second to lose them. Please keep your eyes peeled for formal correspondence ref undelivered orders dispute. I was pleasantly surprised at the responses I got from Lucy Loop, your bot, but she seems to have been overruled by the HQ oligarchy. read more

**** UPDATE- They contacted me and are going to replace the skirt! I really appreciate this- and I am happy that I can continue to do business with them. I do love their skirts! I always get compliments when I wear them. ***** My first experience ordering from Darn Good Yarn was fine. I ordered 3 wrap around cotton skirts and one silk skirt- so they added a free skirt. The free skirt was totally misprinted and the ink was faded, so I just wear it around the house. I was free, so whatever- even though it was advertised and being of a specific value. My second order was for a short wrap around silk skirt and a $5 mystery item worth up to $15 and a monthly yarn subscription. I had already ordered the long version of the skirt, so I wanted a short one and I am not picky about the color, so I opted for the mystery skirt. The skirt came with a black spot that looked like oil on it. I emailed the company wanting only to exchange the product, and they said it was not damaged. They also suggested how to clean the spot out and that I was not getting to exchange the product. SO FYI: MYSTERY DOES NOT MEAN THEY PICK THE COLOR- IT MEANS THEY WILL SEND YOU STAINED (not discolored) MERCHANDISE AND NOT EXCHANGE IT. I am very disappointed and will not order from them again. I even cancelled my yarn of the month club order, because I am concerned about that coming damaged and I know they do not do returns or exchanges on those items. I recently ordered from Darn Good Yarn for the first time, after following them on Facebook and Instagram for months. My mom had a yarn bowl on her birthday wishlist and last week Darn Good Yarn was running a promotion I couldn't pass up, for 50% off. I ordered a wooden yarn bowl and a mystery item. My order arrived today and I was blown away when I opened it. The bowl is gorgeous. The mystery gift is a full skein of gorgeous yarn my mom will love, and they even included a beautiful bag that I can put everything in when I gift it. Everything was wrapped beautifully and with obvious care. I am so impressed with this company, I cannot wait for my mom's birthday to see her face when she opens her gift. I was so thrilled that I felt compelled to send Darn Good Yarn an email letting them know how thankful I am for their company, how thrilled I am to have shopped with them, and how much I look forward to shopping with them in the future. I started buying from Darn Good Yarn back in July and it has quickly become my favorite thing! Their recycled sari wrap skirts, fleece-lined wool socks and other awesome items are not only gorgeous, but they help support artisans in India and Nepal with a wage they can care for their families with! That being said, the skirts are made with recycled and reclaimed fabric that would have otherwise gone to the landfill. With any previously- cherished item, of course it's not goint to be 100% pristine all the time. There are small areas of piling, some looser threads, sometimes a wonky hem or a hole. These small things give character to the skirt, I feel. This skirt had a journey that ends with you! But in the case of large stains, smells, burns or holes, let me tell you their customer service is 2nd to none! They make it right because they're on a mission to help! I've also subscribed to their new Skirt of the Month box and, in my excited anticipation, asked in an email if it was being sent out soon or is there a delay? I got a response back same day that all is well, and deliveries will be pulled very soon! I love this company and I know you will too! read more

I've been dealing with Darn Good Yarn via mail for a couple of years. I bought 3 wrap skirts which I absolutely love as they are like the originals I wore in the 60s but have more wrap fabric to cover my large derrière! I hand wash them and they're still just like new - and the prints are gorgeous! I've also purchased their unique yarns at specialty shops and online and never been disappointed. I even did one year of their monthly yarn club and received some fun yarns and accessories such as buttons and bobbles. One month was cotton yarn with dyes to make my own hand dyed! Each month has both crochet and knit ideas so you're not left hanging! I recommend their yarns if you're looking for something unique that you won't find at Micheals, Joann's or Hobby Lobby. You can expect to pay a little more but when you've finished weaving, crocheting or knitting, you'll have an unique scarf, cowl or shawl like no other. They take a lot of pride in customer service and respond quickly to queries and requests for assistance. I tried the monthly subscription box for about 5 months. I really wanted to like it, but I just couldn't I personally did not like any of the yarns in my boxes. Most of them were very difficult to work with and not consistent in texture throughout. I also found the small amount of yarn in each box to be extremely overpriced. It seemed like the patterns were just about all the same each month...usually some type of tiny neck warmer that looked more like a thick crocheted neck choker. I could no longer justify spending $15 dollars on this box any longer. I'd rather use that money on yarn that I like that provides enough to actually make something. However, I would like to point out that I did not have any issues with the company itself or its customer service like I've read in other reviews. I just didn't like the product. I received my boxes each month on-time, without any issues. Every box had a small thing of yarn, a pattern, and occasionally a little free gift (such as earrings). I'm shocked to see anything but 5 stars for Darn Good Yarn! I have been wanting to subscribe to a yarn box for years and finally decided to treat myself to celebrate my new married life! After reading what they were all about, my husband and I agreed that Darn Good Yarn was the place to be. Ordering online is super easy to do and they have little add-ons you can put with your box. For my first box, I got a mystery chakra bracelet! I haven't tried it yet, but it is beautiful and made well. The yarn is fabulous and so brightly colored! The pattern of my first box is simple but definitely one that I will use over and over again! I did experience some shipping issues, but that was not on Darn Good Yarns part. The US Postal service delivered to my apartments office instead. I emailed Darn Good Yarn and heard back from Chris the following day! They looked it up for me and the shipping said delivered, so they asked for my shipping address! Thankfully, I found the box in my apartments front office, so they didn't need to send a replacement, but I am certain they would have! I can't wait to see what I get next month! read more

I recently received my 1st monthly yarn and patterns. The recycled silk yarn is very soft, and has a thick and thin weight. The thin sections could break, so I was very careful when unwinding the skein, and when pulling it out to knit and crochet. I had enough yarn to make both versions of the plant hanger!!! The free gifts were very nice, I can picture myself keeping a couple of the projects, in the future, to use for "travel packs", or if I have to be hospitalized, or a family member is in the hospital. I read several other reviews about the "musty odor" of the silk yarn. I have used virgin silk yarn, and wool spun "in the grease", and both have their own distinctive aroma. The wool smells like sheep, of course, so I can only gather that the aroma of silk yarn is either due to the nature of the fiber itself, the process of creating the yarn, or possibly the diet of the silkworms. Every item I have ever owned made of silk has that same aroma. I am looking forward to receiving my next skein of yarn, the new pattern and the complimentary notions!!! read more

I have to say that I am in love with Darn Good Yarn! Everything about their business....the mission, the purpose, the products and selection are amazing! It feels really great to be able to support a business that has done so much good, and know that I am a part of helping them do good while doing good myself! If that isn't rewarding enough, their products are amazing! I subscribe to the skirt of the month club and every month I have an amazing and beautifully crafted wrap skirt with a story and theme behind it waiting for me as a wonderful surprise! I have bought a total of 13 skirts from this company. I am so pleased with them! You get exactly what they say you will get. Beautiful, unique and versatile wrap skirts. I love that they have a box when you order to let them know your color and pattern preferences or dislikes as well as what length you want. They matched the colors and patterns I asked for perfectly. Every skirt has beautiful clear colors. I have never gotten a skirt I do not like. I have darks, lights, brights.... such a variety of colors and patterns. I have gifted several skirts to family and struggle to decide which one to give away because I love them all so much. My 13 yr old daughter loves to borrow them as well. They are easy to tie and you can wear them so many ways. With each skirt being reversible it is also like getting 2 skirts in 1. Customer service was amazing!! I did have some questions and have needed to return one and they responded withing 24 hrs everytime I've contacted them and were so friendly and helpful. Friend of mine in a crochet and knitting group introduced me to Darn Good Yarn a couple years ago, and I fell in love with their selection of yarn, crochet supplies, and sari wrap skirts!!! I have four of their wrap skirts now, each one is GORGEOUS!!!! And I have an endless supply of yarn because DGY has some good quality sparkly yarn that I love using in some of my designs and cosplays- I'm a cosplayer and crochet designer myself! Thank you, DGY, you're an excellent small business!!! I'll be wearing one of your gorgeous wrap skirts again for my birthday in July, along with a crochet design of mine with it... Each and every transaction I've had with this company has been above and beyond anything I've ever experienced with a company before. Their monthly yarn subscription is only $10 a month and includes yarn, a knitting pattern, a crochet pattern and a bonus item. Plus recently I've discovered their recycled silk sari reversible wrap skirts. These skirts are simply fabulous! They're beautiful as well as functional. Each skirt - being reversible - counts as two skirts in my eyes, and you can fold and tuck and tie and twist them into *literally* hundreds of skirts, tops, dresses, covers, shrugs and shawls. I'm in love with these skirts! And what's more is that this company helps to employ women in India and Pakistan as well as the mentally disabled here in the US. On a personal note, they brought me to happy tears with their generosity recently. I can honestly say that I've never had a business treat me with this much love before. Darn Good Yarn is all about doing good, and it shows. I will always have extra love in my heart for DGY. read more

I've been a member of this company's yarn of the month club for almost a year now and it's amazing! They send a sample of a beautifully made yarn and a pattern for knit or crochet to use it with. It's such great surprise every month Also I'd like to mention their customer service... It is beyond fantastic! They respond super fast to emails and are always polite and kind. I had an issue with 2 Sari skirts (go to their website and check them out, Gorgeous!!) that I purchased a while back. I was emailed back by Chris and he was so generous and kind. He sent me 2 NEW skirts on them! I couldn't believe it!! I received the skirts quickly and they are exactly what I asked for, so pretty I will always recommend this company to yarn lovers and anyone who compliments my skirts or the item I've crocheted with their yarn. I just love Darn Good Yarn! I have ordered yarn, which is absolutely fabulous, and apparel, so beautiful and fun to wear. The yarn is very high quality and luxurious, I have made several items including garments and home decor with the yarn and get lots of compliments. As for the Zaria Wrap Dress, I have ordered 2 now. So absolutely gorgeous, figure flattering no matter your size (I'm a goddess size), super soft and flowy and luxurious. I love that I am helping to reduce waster by purchasing garments made with recycled sari silk. The one of a kind fabric in each garment makes it super special to wear. I highly recommend ordering from Darn Good Yarn. Customer service is excellent, website is easy to use and order is shipped quickly. I have been a member of the Yarn of the Month club and I am totally thrilled with it! Every month it's like a present delivered for me! Each month I get a different yarn, including things I would never buy on my own. I've gotten heavy yarn, ribbon yarn, silk yarn, even a skein of unfinished yarn with 2 bottles of color and directions on how to dye yarn! So cool! Plus with each box there is a knit and a crochet pattern and a free surprise gift! Once it was buttons, once some beautiful finished tassels that matched the yarn, once a gorgeous pair of earrings! I just this month ordered another skein of yarn that I had received in the box previously, plus I ordered a surprise skein of yarn, and I finally ordered a yarn bowl! I could not be happier with Darn Good Yarn, and I highly recommend them to anyone. I've always had good customer service, fast response to any questions I have had. I love this site! I love what the stand for and I have never had a problem with deliveries. I am thrilled at having recycled silk to work with. I just received silk fat quarters and am just loving the feel of the material and planning on what to create with it. I could not believe that I got paying for two skirts and getting another three free. I did receive a short skirt in the color I love but was thinking I will never wear that but then I could wear leggings under it! :) :) I am always checking back for the SALE items. One day I may sign up for the subscription but I just know I don't have time to keep up with getting new stuff every month! I wish them continued success in assisting these women whose lives I can't imagine was like but bless their future and wish more people care enough to do more for them like Darn Good Yarn does! Life isn't perfect and none of us are perfect so let's be kind to one another and be so judgmental. read more
