Virtual paint nite has been AMAZING! Yaymaker has some of the most beautiful artwork and instructors. For the virtual events BYOB and relax in your home and get some live interaction with the host. It's only $15 for a live 2hr Zoom session. This company is actually a franchise type business each host is typically an independent contractor who runs the event under the company name. This would explain the wide variety of reviews here. Some instructors/groups are better than others. I would read the reviews of the host on the company website if they have a fairly low rating or none at all your taking a risk. If they have tons of great reviews the Paint Nite hosts are some of the best in the business since Paint Nite was one of the first paint and sips in the business. For this review I just have to say that is a virtual Yaymaker event. I've have done other Paint Nite events prior to the pandemic so I've had some small experience with how things go. I know, virtual events are no way as good as the in person ones, but just bare with the times. I originally bought $25 Groupon tickets at the beginning of this year to be used some time between February and March 2020. However, the pandemic hit, things got shut down, Paint Nites were no longer offered. A few months after when things started to open up again, Yaymaker which is the parent company of all the Paint Nites, Plant Nites...etc. started offering virtual events. That was pretty neat; however there was a downside to things. My $25 Groupon voucher was now worth $15 on Yaymaker... so I basically lose out on $10 per ticket that I bought. You know what, it's fine, things have changed and I just have to accept this fact. It's better to use it before they expire, which ends up being worth $0. So I go on Yaymaker book a weekend evening event. I chose a fiery starry night landscape vibe kind of painting. I like a cool looking gradient looking picture. I go to Michaels and Target to get all the painting and craft supplies. Like all Paint Nite events, BYOB (bring your own booze). Luckily at home, you can sip on whatever you like. So the event time arrives and I click on my Zoom link. We're just sitting there waiting and waiting til we could be admitted to the room. So the instructor was a bit late by like over 10 minutes. She's from NJ, so it must be pretty late there if it's the evening over here on the west coast. She took roll which was like 20+ minutes... she had everyone turn their cameras on and to show their faces. She asks everyone where they were from. It was a pretty cool crowd of people, people from all over the U.S. and I think one group was from Canada. A few minutes into the session her video cuts out and at times completely. We're messaging her on zoom and telling her in the video that we couldn't her or see anything. Nope, she still just continues on do her thing. Long story short, we all just start painting on our own and just try to finish the painting based on the example. Everyone who signed up to that zoom session sounded pretty annoyed. Towards the end of the of the session she asks everyone to show off their paintings.... She made this like a requirement... plus she was critiquing it too. Would I do this again? Not sure. Maybe other people had better instructors. To be honest I think I could've just followed a YouTube video instead. Also I could pause, rewind and re-watch certain parts again. read more

We attended a Paint Nite Event at El Torito recently and another one at the Foxfire before it closed. Both were super fun evenings where we had a great time despite my painting abilities. Attending a Paint Nite begins by visiting the website, picking out a class and then signing you and whomever you're going with, up to participate. Both times I used a groupon that was gifted to me and it was very easy. The next step is to simply show up! You want to arrive 15-20 minutes early so that you don't get the worst seats and so you can get situated before the class begins. They give you an apron, a plate with paint, your canvas on a holder and the brushes you'll need. Then the fun begins. The instructor walks you through stages of painting so that you ultimately create something like the painting that the instructor is doing at the front of the class. If you like going against the grain, you can always just paint. They don't force you to do their picture so people make modifications as they like or sometimes just paint whatever they want (this doesn't really make sense to me b/c why pay for a painting class but maybe that's just me). I'm not only a non-gifted painter but I'm also really messy so I got paint on my shirt. The instructor showed me a trick where you rub the paint with hand sanitizer and it totally came right off! I've done paint nite and plant nites and had a good time at all of them, no problems until this time. I purchased a Groupon for Yaymakers virtual paint nite yesterday and scheduled it, literally, yesterday. Within 24 hours ago. Their website does not state they are not doing certain classes right now due to COVID 19. There are numerous classes being offered. It's a very low fee to take a virtual class, but I feel it's bad business to offer classes at all when you know you are not running them. Take them off your website. No refunds. Decided I'm forfeiting the cost. FYI, it makes no difference to the low class fee to get a Groupon. read more

She was awesome, had a great sense of humor and was just super delightful; she kept everything fun and light hearted. Our instructor on 8/20/18 was Marina Peren - she's this Argentinian lady who was incredibly sweet and engaging. It helped a lot that she provided a stencil, but unfortunately, that took too long to pass around the class. I was one of the last ones to receive the stencil BUT she didn't rush us to finish painting when the class was over - she told us to take our time as she cleaned up. Please make sure to tip the instructor if you enjoyed the class. Of course the class is going to cost a bit for such simple paint and brushes - you're paying for the experience. And you don't need more than 5 of the provided colors - the primary colors (yellow, blue, red), black, and white gives you access to colors all across the spectrum. If you need help, ask the instructor and they'll kindly assist. I'm looking forward to taking another class from here, ideally with Marina. The food and alcohol served here is like the bar food they serve for the bowling alley - that was a pleasant surprise considering how I only anticipated wine and sub par appetizers. It's pretty average bar food. I was lucky enough to be sitting to a wonderfully sweet older lady who ended up being such a kick for my brother and I. Hopefully you guys will have a likewise fun, bonding moment with your neighbors cause they can make the class even more fun. You're allowed to take reign and paint whatever you'd like if you don't want to adhere to the theme painting. There's definitely some modern Picassos in the class as well, but don't be intimidated. Have done 3 Paint Nite events including this weekend. All have been slightly different but overall wonderful and fun. The 1st event was in Long Beach at BO-beau kitchen + roof tap. For this one the location was great and the instructor was awesome. He was very attentive and extremely detailed with his instructions. He took his time and made sure to pay attention to each and ever attendant. Great 1st impression of Paint Nite! The 2nd event was at a Mimi's Cafe in Long Beach. This one the location was ok. Still fun and location was great because we had a private area in restaurant. The instructor was good but not as detailed as the one from 1st event. She did make her rounds and was attentive to everyone but I wish she would've been more detailed with her instructions. I'm not for guessing how to achieve a certain look. I will say if I asked she would help me achieve what I wanted but I didn't have to ask very much 1st time. The 3rd event was at Settebello in Newport Beach. Spectacular location, across from the ocean. While not in a private area, the set-up was beautiful in the back area of the restaurant. The instructor was great! Very attentive and detailed. Overall, 5 stars because each time we have had a great time. Highly recommend everyone try a Paint Nite event. Be sure to visit their sight in advance and see which painting you prefer. Also, if you use Groupon, it's super easy. Buy Groupon and then go to Paint Nite website, select event and number of tix and at checkout enter code from Groupon purchase. Easy! read more

========= 350th Review ========= Went to Paint Nite last week at Lucky Strike OC and had never done anything like it before, so this was pretty exciting going in! Showed up and got checked in 15 in minutes early, and ordered food and drinks. In short order the instructor introduced herself and told us how to get started at our stations, wash the brushes, and ground rules. The water based paints were fairly cheap but the upside was they dry quickly. They only gave you 3 brushes to use, and very little paint or palette area which made it pretty hard especially for beginners. Most of the instructions were poor or spotty (no explaining how to layer, or to avoid wet areas until it was way too late). There was no example and it was very hard to see - I am fairly tall but didn't help. Our leader's advice was mostly like "use brush A and put some yellow over here, maybe some orange over here", which from 50 feet away at high speed is pretty vague. 2 hours went by fairly quickly and tried to keep up and get my painting done along with everyone else. The biggest upside and it was fairly inexpensive with Groupon or online code. However they also canceled our original Paint Night already scheduled with only a week notice, and it's hard to rebook especially only that far in advance because classes fill up weeks in advance. Overall I think if you are a semi experienced painter you'll have a good time, first timers will probably struggle and most people will end up somewhere in between. The only upside is the drinks were cheap but they didn't tell us this in advance so we didn't order more than 1 each. Our instructor's biggest advice was "I love that song" which she said about 8 different times and the music was loud and sightly distracting. It was more like rock n roll painting than the relaxing, soothing wine and paint that I expected. And most of the songs I hear on the radio daily so it didn't really add much except cover up part of the chit chat. If they added half an hour to paint, or better instructions I'd definitely try it again. Otherwise your mileage will greatly vary depending on the above factors. In the end, at least you got a unique painting that YOU made with your own hands to take home, so that was pretty cool. read more

Very bad experience with this company. We booked a virtual paint night for 3 people and received a confirmation. Less than 10 minutes later, they sent an event cancellation notice. I reached out asking for a refund which they refused to provide. It seems like they are just grabbing payments and stealing from customers. I have no interest in rebooking anything with them. I book events for my employer and was considering using them for a virtual intern event. Instead, I'll be reporting them to the better business bureau and letting 100s of colleagues in my industry know not to use them. read more

I booked an event and it was cancelled then I rescheduled and they cancelled again but only cancelled 1/2 from my group. I'm not sure if they thought I would be ok going without my plus one but they were definitely mistaken. I'm still waiting to hear if they'll reimburse me for the second voucher, but needless to say it's been a complete inconvenience. I don't like how there isn't a customer service phone number to speak with a representative directly. I got my vouchers through Groupon and then had to pay an additional fee for a service fee which has put me out $75. I would never book through this company again. read more

Be aware that this company cancels events LITERALLY LAST MINUTE. I received a cancellation at 5:30 am for an event I was booked to attend this SAME EVENING. Furthermore, this is the THIRD cancelled event in a row! I tried booking originally on 6/25/18 and that was CANCELLED I rebooked for 11/2/18 and, you guessed it: CANCELLED. This one is by far the most DISCOURTEOUS, my group includes 2 moms who paid and arranged for childcare and this lack of professionalism is unacceptable and entails a bigger loss than the ticket price. Not happy with Yaymaker at all. I had my heart set on Paint Night for a certain date. I bought two tickets one for my friend and I. We cleared our schedules so we can have a nice night out. Got a confirmation at least a day and a half before the first event saying it was canceled. Fine, not a big deal it happens. Used the confirmation code and received two vouchers to reschedule. Received another email saying that the second event is canceled. Um, great... What an inconvenience. Since my friend and I cleared our schedules for that night, I wanted to sign up for the THIRD time for another event at a further location (what an inconvenience)... Apparently, the confirmation code for the first and second event is the same therefore you can't use the same confirmation code. Sent them an email. Waiting for a response. I don't understand why Paint Night would post events on their website only to have them canceled. I also don't understand why they are only reachable through email. I am beyond disappointed with their system and most likely would not recommend Yaymaker to anyone because chances of an event being canceled seem to be high at this point. read more

Took a class last night, and though my painting turned out fine, I didn't have a great experience compared to other classes I've been to. I've done two Paint Nites now and about a dozen Painting and Vino classes. In my opinion, Paint Nite feels like the knock off version of Painting and Vino. And not even a good knock off. For the same price! The only reason I came was because I really liked the piece. I was hesitant to even take this second class, given that the first one was not great, but I thought maybe that first bad experience was a fluke. But no, Paint Nite just wasn't up to par. Here's the low down... Paint Nite gives you two brushes to work with instead of five. Paint Nite doesn't give you a measuring stick. Paint Nite gives you a really cheap Styrofoam plate for your paint, which is so light it moves around when you're mixing. Paint Nite uses red Solo cups for water instead of plastic ones. (They are very light, so spills are inevitable.) Paint Nite gives you flimsy napkins instead of paper towels to clean off your brushes. These sound like trivial things, but trust me, they make a difference. My biggest complaint is probably that there's only one person running the class. So, no assistant to fetch things. Need more paint or napkins? Go get it yourself! At the end of the night, clean up after yourself too. The class is not as structured either. No measurements to guide you, you just have to eyeball it. (Painting and Vino is more like connect the dots.) Lastly, the instructors are pretty blatant about asking for tips. I don't have a problem tipping, but I'm just surprised how vocal they are about it. Especially when you've got to do a lot of the work yourself, compared the Painting and Vino. Bummed, but I won't be back. read more

The event location was at Bo-Beau's Rooftop and Kitchen in Long Beach so we went early to grab dinner also. The food was yummy! The event itself was organized, we checked in 15 minutes ahead of the start time so that we can claim seats. Placed our easels down then went to get drinks. During our experience the waitress came around a few times to see if we needed drinks or food. Giving Yaymaker 2 stars because their events are usually fun depending on the host you get, but they have terrible customer service. We paid $35 each ($70) for a virtual paint night for my sisters birthday, got all ready with our painting supplies and everything, and when we clicked on the link they sent us ahead of time to join the event, nothing happened. Obviously something was wrong, but there is no way to contact the host, there's no separate meeting ID to join it without using the link, nothing you can do if the link doesn't work. We emailed Yaymaker and got an automatic reply that we'd get a response in 3-5 days....great. 5 days later we got a response saying we "missed" our event and here are rescheduling codes. Now with covid-19 restrictions pretty much all of the events are $15 and very few are $35 anymore, so we're eating $40 even if we use the codes and do another event. A refund or credit of the $70 we gave Yaymaker for literally NOTHING should have been granted but stolen money aside, it's frustrating that there is nothing you can do if your link doesn't work. I responded to the customer service person's email 7 days ago and have not gotten a response back. Very annoying and even with the rescheduling codes I don't feel very inspired to sign up for another event. read more

I attended a Paintnite at the San Clemente Wine Co. Our instructor (Lauren) was excellent, very helpful, and encouraging! I picked this date because I liked the painting. I wish I would have been told that it was an "Advanced" and "technical" painting since I am not at all artistic (maybe rated on the website?). I think that I would have been happier with my painting if we had been given more time and if there weren't so many people. The room was crowded, the instructor could barely move around to help people, and we ran out of time. The restaurant was turning off the lights and asking us to leave before we were done. She said she would give us paint to take home and finish but i don't have the brushes. So, although it was a fun time, i would have liked to have come home with a finished product. read more

My Paint Nite location was Lucky Strike at the Block. I'm no Picasso, but I had a great time and with the help of our instructor, I was able to create a decent looking painting. I liked how all of the food and drink was available to us at Happy Hour Prices. The only critique I have is that the "palette" of paints we're given is quite small and given the amount of mixing we have to do, we ran out of space quickly. Luckily, the instructor saw my struggle and gave me one of the extra palettes they had from someone no-showing. Overall, the two hours passed by very quickly, and I had a lot of fun, with a keepsake of the night as well as some great photos. I was able to get a Groupon deal for $15 and after the event, Paint Nite emailed everyone a reusable code to get 45% off future Paint Nites. Definitely a fun, new experience, and I would go again. read more

SONIA PRINCE - I do not recommend her. I had fun, but probably would have with any instructor, but I am a teacher for a public high school and she is pretty low on the skills level. Similar to a mediocre teacher in her 2nd year. It was fun and I would do it again, but would avoid this teacher. She rushed it and was pretty green at teaching. i think they need to step up in the field of technology! I should be able to SEE what you are doing and you better not do it too fast for the class! She was way too fast and way too basic for me. Adept or funny! Pick one! But don't suck at both! I completely agree with some of the other reviews about this paint company. I've done MANY paint nights before but this was the first time with Paint Nite, and honestly it was a disappointment and I was a bit annoyed. First of all the time we had to paint seemed shorter than the others and towards the end the instructor went through it really fast. Another thing was that there were apparent steps that the instructor missed while we were painting (like, blending out background things before we painted other objects in front of it so when you try to go back and blend it out it's impossible!). And the current painting didn't look half as good as the one displayed since it was missing things. ALSO, there was only the one instructor and no assistant at all to help with more paint or other things we needed. The instructor didn't even help give us extra paint, like it's so hard to go around squirting paint on plates. And then we were required to clean up our painting area when finished, which is another thing I wasn't used to. To top it off the instructor put out a hat and asked us for tips. Wow.... I don't mind tipping but only when well deserved. I didn't feel like it was deserving of a tip but we did anyway. And more lastly, I got a discount off this painting class but their regular price is higher than some other paint places. Not worth it. Never going back. I'm glad some other people had good experiences but I didn't. read more

Good luck actually being able to go to an event. These people act like people have no lives and can just keep rescheduling because they cancel events. They cancel an event and will not give you your money back, but instead make you reschedule, just to cancel that event. So far I'm on my fourth booking. I had been hearing about and wanting to do a Paint Nite event for a long time and finally got a group of girls together and did one for my birthday. It was pretty much everything I thought it would be and we all had so much fun! Ours was at the Foxfire in Anaheim Hills (team Trish event and I think our instructor was Stacy) but this review is not for the restaurant, because the restaurants and bars have nothing to do with the Paint Nite company itself and should be reviewed separately. (And FYI I have no complaints about Foxfire either.) Our instructor was funny and made it really fun for all of us and it definitely did not feel like school... they give you the freedom to be as creative as you want. (Tip: It's also a lot more fun if you don't take it too seriously and try too hard to make a masterpiece.) They were also very accommodating when I had an issue and one of the girls couldn't make it and they are very generous, giving out discounts and coupons on their website and deal sites all the time. Seems like such a great company and great idea! Highly recommend for a girls night out instead of the usual dinner and drinks, you can do that here as you paint and laugh together!
