I opted to make a flower, while my daughter planned to create a flower-shaped ring holder as a surprise gift for her sister, who loves rings. Those were the options given to us by the instructor. Unfortunately, we were disappointed by the long wait--20 days--for our pieces to arrive, especially since we paid $25 for shipping. I had to email the owner to remind her to send them out. She was apologetic, and the pieces eventually arrived. However, to our dismay, my daughter's piece turned out to be just a flower, a beautiful flower, but not the ring holder she asked to make with the guidance of her instructor. The instructor was with her every step and guided her through the entire process, but seemed to forget the goal of making it into a ring holder which was an option given to us. I reached out to the owner to explain the situation, but there was no acknowledgment of the mistake or any indication of how it might be corrected. Overall, we were left disappointed.

Love the various options and colors that were available including glow in the dark option. I created an ornament for our tree as given it is holiday seasons and we can enjoy it seeing for awhile!

Wow! I am so smitten with Lakewood Art Studios! How did I, lover of all things handmade, not know…read morethis was here?! I was taking a yoga class at nearby Puma Yoga when I randomly noticed Lakewood Art Studios and decided to wander in. What a pleasant, pleasant surprise. Lakewood Art Studios is an artist collective, education and event space in Lakewood. I'm spitballing from memory, but they feature maybe 30+ local artists. Think the most unique pieces of jewelry, art, greeting cards, ceramics and other odds and ends thoughtfully curated in a gallery. You constantly have things to explore and no two things are the same. For me, buying handmade local artisan goods is my weak spot. Seriously, take all my money now. They also offer a variety of classes ranging from photography to portrait drawing and a comic book club, all held in the small classrooms in the back of the shop. This is a pretty special place. I was in a bit of a rush when I visited, but I am already planning to go back out to Lakewood to specially spend more time in Lakewood Art Studios appreciating all the one-of-a-kind pieces. I'll come here to discover new artists for my collection or buy stunning, original gifts for friends!

I was looking for art classes in CLE and stumbled upon Art House, which is a nonprofit organization…read moredevoted to making art accessible to their Brooklyn Centre neighborhood as well as Greater Cleveland. They offer visual and creative arts classes for people of all ages and skill levels. Shortly after learning about Art House I signed up for a six week pottery on the wheel class. I had never used a pottery wheel before, and I really enjoyed it (even though I'm not too great at it). The instructor, Billy Ritter, was fantastic. Really helpful, friendly and laid back. He is also very diplomatic with his comments on our less than perfect creations throughout the weeks. I took the class solo but was really happy with the group setting and made friends with the other people in the class. I also attended a glass mosaic class that was a good time. Art House offers a large variety of classes for adults, kids and kids with family members, and open studio time for ceramics as well. These would make excellent gifts! The classes are also great if you're looking to do something on your own or with friends. Art House offers summer programs for kids, birthday parties, etc. AH has a large variety of things to offer and they change/update them every few months. AH currently offers monthly "Sippin' in the Studio" single night classes in which they provide a few glasses of vino to get your creativity flowing and range from glass mosaics to jewelry making. This is a cool place and I hope Clevelanders take advantage of it. Check it out - sign up for something today! Sign up with a friend and/or meet some new people in a really relaxed atmosphere.

There is always so many people here, bumping into each other, and fighting over parking, so it is a bit overstimulating. It's always nice walking around 78th street studios. It can get a little overwhelming because the building is so big and you may get lost but just follow the signs posted on the walls to find out where you're going.
