After seeing plenty of living social deals and "look what I painted" posts in various social media news feeds I knew I wanted to try a Paint Nite. Lucky for me, my boyfriend kindly surprised me with tickets to a Sunday night Paint Nite at St. Declan's Well where we were to paint a sunset scene with two dolphins and a palm tree. The night started at 7 PM, and they suggested you arrive 15 minutes early to set up. We were promptly greeted by Jess, our instructor for the night. The Paint Nite crew had taken over the back half of the bar with a blank canvas set up on a green table cloth for everyone. We selected two seats in the back, facing the opposite direction of the instructor- this wasn't a beg deal as we just turned our seats during instruction. Additionally Jess used a microphone and speaker so everyone could hear- this worked well, but I think it's time for Paint Nite to upgrade to a bit nicer of equipment. If you are coming with a bigger group- get there early so you can get seats together. I wish that Paint Nite would have done assigned seating. Some tables were overly crowded while others had room to share. After getting our cups of water and pumps of paint, we put on our aprons and started the class. At first we were a little nervous, but Jess led us through the entire thing and made it easy for anyone to participate. Jess took pictures throughout the night and later posted them on the company's facebook page which was nice. The bar was cool, but the service was horrible. The bar staff was rude and took way to long to fill orders. I don't think I would come back to this location for a Paint Nite. Overall this is a super unique activity and overall a great time sure to be filled with smiles, painted hands, and laughter. I can't wait to pick another painting and come again. read more

I'd seen Paint Nite deals floating around on Living Social and Groupon, so when a friend came to visit from out of down I decided to buy one and sign us up for a Sunday night painting party. When I originally bought the deal from Living Social, it was quickly cancelled, which was a disappointment. However, a few days later I noticed the deal on Groupon, so I bought it again - clearly there are some technical/promotional issues, but thankfully, this time it was on! We did a Sunday paint nite at Head House Crab & Oyster Co, on 2nd and South. The space was huge and the restaurant and bar were pretty dead on Sunday at 7pm, so I can understand why they'd welcome a crowd of 30 painters - especially when those painters are being encouraged to drink throughout the entire class. I understand the reciprocal relationship of Paint Nite using the space and encouraging people to buy drinks from the bar, but the pushiness was obvious and got a bit annoying after 2 hours. As for the class itself, we painted "Fireflies" - an abstract sort of image that is evidently their most popular piece. Although the instructions were vague at time, it was an "Easy" level painting, and so they came out fairly well. Perhaps the most interesting and fun part was to walk around and see how 30 different people could interpret the same scene so many different ways - although I have to admit, it inspired some artist envy! Overall, the novelty of painting your own masterpiece, while being able to sip drinks, makes for a fun night out, especially if you gather up a group to go. At $50 a person, I wouldn't pay full price, but there seems to be no shortage of half-price deals floating around on the inter webs. Not sure if I'll be a repeat customer, because really, what do you do with a bunch of giant hand painted canvases? Nevertheless, check it out yourself, eager to see more reviews up here! read more

Nazee Z and I headed out to Field house yesterday evening to get our painting on! And mennnnn I can tell you I am no Picasso! However, I had a BLAST! Nazee picked the painting and we ended up drawing Elephants but they have tons of choices on their website of what you can paint (different date, different bar, different painting) Regarding yesterday, I got there ~10 minute before the event started and everything was ready for us; just had to sit and wait. Once it started, the teacher was VERY enthusiastic which I loved! We went on with our nights and the instructor was very helpful and giving us advises and had a way to make you feel talented while you know deep down you are terrible at art! I loved the idea of drinking, eating and painting all together and I am looking forward to do it again in the future. read more

This was a pretty clever and fun idea! We went to Field House for our event and painted a cute little elephant spouting rain drops. I really liked the atmosphere and how social it was. People were walking around looking at other people's painting and taking ideas from eachother. The instructor was really nice and I was surprised that everyone's painting came out really well. She was great at communicating ideas to us and was a great teacher. I came out feeling like a Picasso and a little tipsy! Who could ask for more? read more

I'm glad that someone came up with the idea of drinking and socializing with friends and loved ones while you paint. I've been to three events so far. It's a truly enjoyable experience. I find it stress relieving as well. My first time was last August, second time was with my coworkers in September of last year as well, and the third time was just this past Tuesday at the New Deck Tavern in University City. All the instructors that I've had, have been tremendously nice. They play a huge role to enjoy paint nite. They tend to suggest creativity (some people can go way too far) and that no one should get mad if "they don't get it right". Whatever is painted on the canvas is acceptable since it's not an art class. Instructors take pictures of you while you paint which are posted either the same day or the following day on Facebook. I've gotten two of my tickets for about $20. Groupon and LivingSocial have always deals on this activity but also you can get to apply their websites' deal on top of it. It's very worth it! To think that all of those school classes and summer camp sessions actually could come in handy! Have been considering going to one of these for a while and one day finally bought a LS deal and then planned out a date night with the Mrs. Our session was held at Urban Saloon. They suggest that you arrive 15min early to get a drink.. which I would suggest too. The start time was 7 pm, so naturally we got there at 6pm to partake in Happy Hour and get some noms (of which we did). Despite the challenging appearance of the picture (Miami skyline) our teacher, Meg, was very helpful and VERY patient, especially since they had bar service in the room too. I was initially unsure about the whole thing, but it turned out to be a fantastic time. The business started in San Fran but has spread all the way across the nation with plenty of other cities participating too. There are many sessions each month, but seating is limited to if there's a place and time that you want, make sure you reserve quickly. So get out there an paint! read more

This is the 2nd time I did paintings with Paint Nite. I was surprised that there are not many reviews on Yelp which they totally deserve. This is a fun organization/event palnning group with such innovative ideas to bring people together. You not only go somewhere to have drink or food with friends, but to do some arts! You will be amazed by how much potentials you have to do a painting... Everyone's final product looks so different yet beautiful. You can also share the art with friends or family, and bring smiles on people's faces. The instructors are very friendly and patient in teaching you step by step too. Super fun night out. Usually at a bar, where you can drink and paint. Paintings are pretty easy and surprisingly look great when done.

This is my second Paint Nite, the first was at Finnigan's Wake in January. That one was not so great, the instructor was not terribly helpful and was rushed. The group had a good time together, so we decided to give it one more try. This past week we went to Headhouse Crab and Oyster company. Both locations were poorly light, we all had a very difficult time seeing how the colors were coming out on our canvas. Both locations were crowded , although Headhouse was much worse than Finnigan's Wake. At Headhouse we were basically on top of each other at small tables, our easels were leaning on each other so if one person moved, all the paintings moved. Our table was incredibly wobbly so every time someone moved, the table and the paintings moved. We mentioned it several times to both the restaurant staff and the paint night staff...no one seemed to care and the issue was never resolved. Not too fun trying to paint while wobbling!! The brushes at both events were awful, overused and out of shape. This caused many imperfections to the painting (beyond the amateur mistakes being made,lol). At Headouse we were given very little paint on the plate to start with and when we needed more the instructor was not to happy to part with it. The instructor herself was not very helpful. She did circulate the room with the painting example, but whenever we asked "how do you.do such and such..." she would just respond that whatever we did was fine. We wanted some guidance and got none. We discussed brining our own brushes if we ever did this again, then realized that was absurd. For the money we are paying (even with discounts) we should be able to paint in a well light area on a sturdy table with decent brushes, a good amount of paint and some useful instructions... none of these things occurred during either of our experiences. So, we decided to continue doing paint nights on our own and will not be returning. read more
