We recently moved back to ND and decided to check out the Lake Sakakawea area and visit Garrison ND for lunch. Huge double bacon cheeseburger with homemade buns, great fries and a yummy strawberry malt. Old style soda shoppe decor that probably has been that way a looooong time but nostalgic and cute. Definitely stop by! Also made me chuckle that they sell bottles of "pop" no one believes me that they call it pop in ND...here is proof!

Simple. Delicious. Had the bacon cheeseburger with homemade bun. Topped it off with a chocolate shake. Place might need some upkeep, but the food is grrrreat.

Great service and lots of choices. Adorable place to check out while in Garrison. Their downtown is thriving for a small town.

One night, they decided…read moreto take us here for steak night and to experience some of the local ambience, and we were so happy they did!!! Talk about a quintessential mom and pop bar that serves great, non-pretentious food. There were three choices of steak, and a few potato side dishes to choose from. No frills, all thrills. The steak was labeled as 12 ounces, but I'm not sure what their benchmark was. It was a heaping side of cow, easily 20-24 ounces. They treated the meat well, like royalty, and did their damnedest to NOT screw up quality ingredients. I ordered my steak medium rare, and exactly like so, it appeared before me like a magicians trick. A beautiful, meaty, delicious magicians trick. LoL. There was a fantastic hard sear on the outside, and inside, a gorgeous pink medium rare that just melted in your mouth. The owner was in the kitchen visible from our table, and didn't break a sweat cranking out plate after plate of tasty cow. I'd put this steak up against the best steakhouses I've been to around the world. Who knew you could get this at a joint like Harbor Bar and Grill, for a mere $25? We'll be visiting our friends again, and when we do, we will get our cow on at Harbor B&G.

We were told our drinks (soda) were going to be comped, but they were not. This is the second time we have eaten there and had the same terrible service both times. Definitely do not need to give the restaurant another chance.

I just had a wild hair to pull off the side of the road to have a dive burger. And let me tell you,…read moreit was divine. I ordered the jalapeño poppers, which was kind of a fusion thing. It was popper stuffed egg rolls. Secret cheeses and diced peppered, deep fried in the wrap. Really really good and unique. I had to try the Bacon Macaroni and Cheese burger. It was really incredible, coming from a restaurant in a town with a population of 300+ folks. The burger was thick, and perfectly cooked. Not too dry, with a slightly juicy light pink center. The Mac and cheese and the bacon crumbles were so good and the potato roll was soft and I just loved it . I could only eat half, the rest is coming on the plane ride home. I don't know when I will be back, but I'm glad I stopped!! I wish them luck! PS: The sweet tea was perfect too, for a hot summer day and the cool breeze of ND. Friendly service, unsuspecting amazing food!

Unfortunately their cook was hospitalized and their kitchen was closed so we went to the other option in Max: Pour Choices Bar and Grill - formerly The Max Cafe. Pour Choices Bar and Grill was having their Grand Opening Weekend so we decided to eat lunch there. My buddy ordered an Aloha Burger which he said was just ok but he said the fries were great. I ordered the Chicken Wing Basket they were excellent, very nicely rendered and crispy. I ordered garlic parmesan wings and they had very good flavor and even with the garlic parmesan they remained crispy and delicious. The wing basket comes with fries and cole slaw but don't get the waffle fries unless you want a $3 up charge! We ate in the bar and it was dimly lit and I didn't see that the waffle fries was an upcharge, I thought it said the wings came with waffle fries and cole slaw but they assured me when charging that the menu said it was extra... 4 Stars for the wings but minus one for the food taking a very long time... 35-40 minutes to come out and it wasn't that busy but I'd still recommend eating there but YMMV. We'll definitely make another drive to Max and try out the Red Light next time. One thing that does bother me is the waitress just announced the bill total without presenting a printed bill for the customer to examine and then pay. I had to ask for a printout and I think that should be a given. $14 wings and a $3 Pepsi turned out to be $21+ because I didn't see the fine print about the waffle fries. They were very good waffle fries but had I known I wouldn't have opted for the extra $3 charge as the regular fries would have been plenty good to have as well.

We were immediately greeted & seated with a lake view. Offered water while we selected drinks & given the details on the specials, which rotate. We've driven by so many times without realizing what we were missing, thinking it was just a lakeside bar. I'm so glad we decided to swing in once hearing about the "not bar fare food" being served. Seafood in North Dakota, ehhhh, how brave do you feel? We started with shrimp stuffed shrooms. It only comes with 3, but they are piled high. It turns out we really didn't need an app, as I'm currently eating my boxed up food while I'm writing this review. I honestly haven't been in such a personable place in a long time &, no, we aren't regulars or locals. We were given a tip to come back for seafood Sunday- maybe... The beef was all tender & juicy - cooked to a perfect med-rare. The hubs had the hanger steak & I opted for the lavash special- which was a BOGO - buy the Philly & get a seafood version free. Veggies were all fresh, no canned/frozen soggy stuff here, nice & crisp. When we were checked in on, my response to "is everything tasting ok?" was simply "wow" with an "I know, right?" bounced back.

Came in to the Ranchman's 23 today for lunch with a few coworkers…read more.. It was seat yourself, we snagged a table and a few minutes later a waitress was there taking our drink order. Pretty solid start. We were also the only table in the dining area. Drinks come, we start to ask about food. On the entree portion it says to ask for a Steak Menu, if you're interested in that. So we did, and were told they don't have a steak menu. All of their entrees are listed on the menu. So after finding them as a steakhouse and not seeing any steaks on the menu i had to ask, "So do you sell steaks?".. which they did, just their menu must have been outdated. She mentioned the surf and turf which made my ears perk up. My interest was piqued. I get soup or salad, caesar salad it is. Grilled or breaded shrimp (wanted to skip the grease) grill em. How do i want my steak cooked? Rare. Side to go with it? Loaded baked potato...........they dont serve them until after 5, fine make it mac and cheese. I also ordered the ruben bites for the table to snack on. Appetizers come and there is only one complaint so far from my peer. She ordered the soup of the day "Veggie Beef" and received "Chicken Noodle", which made it seem like the waitress we had was misinformed. The board at the front also said veggie beef, so there was a missing link in communication somewhere. Onto the entree.... My shrimp were cooked, and seasoned with a small amount of pepper. My steak was sat upon a single leaf of lettuce (i could've done without) and was cooked to a perfect medium (remember i wanted rare), and the mac and cheese was fresh out of a Kraft blue box with a bit of shredded cheese melted on top. Now, i am not one to send food back, and its not my first time eating blue box nor a steak thats cooked more than i like. But the waitress didnt ask me how anything was or how my steak was cooked after she served it. I ate it all anyhow. The bill comes, my surf and turf was $33, and i had a $2 up charge for mac and cheese. When i say that i laughed out loud, i cant exaggerate how silly i felt for not sending any part of this back. Super lack luster visit, wouldn't be high on my recommendation list to anyone. Unfortunate.
