Came in to the Ranchman's 23 today for lunch with a few coworkers... It was seat yourself, we snagged a table and a few minutes later a waitress was there taking our drink order. Pretty solid start. We were also the only table in the dining area. Drinks come, we start to ask about food. On the entree portion it says to ask for a Steak Menu, if you're interested in that. So we did, and were told they don't have a steak menu. All of their entrees are listed on the menu. So after finding them as a steakhouse and not seeing any steaks on the menu i had to ask, "So do you sell steaks?".. which they did, just their menu must have been outdated. She mentioned the surf and turf which made my ears perk up. My interest was piqued. I get soup or salad, caesar salad it is. Grilled or breaded shrimp (wanted to skip the grease) grill em. How do i want my steak cooked? Rare. Side to go with it? Loaded baked potato...........they dont serve them until after 5, fine make it mac and cheese. I also ordered the ruben bites for the table to snack on. Appetizers come and there is only one complaint so far from my peer. She ordered the soup of the day "Veggie Beef" and received "Chicken Noodle", which made it seem like the waitress we had was misinformed. The board at the front also said veggie beef, so there was a missing link in communication somewhere. Onto the entree.... My shrimp were cooked, and seasoned with a small amount of pepper. My steak was sat upon a single leaf of lettuce (i could've done without) and was cooked to a perfect medium (remember i wanted rare), and the mac and cheese was fresh out of a Kraft blue box with a bit of shredded cheese melted on top. Now, i am not one to send food back, and its not my first time eating blue box nor a steak thats cooked more than i like. But the waitress didnt ask me how anything was or how my steak was cooked after she served it. I ate it all anyhow. The bill comes, my surf and turf was $33, and i had a $2 up charge for mac and cheese. When i say that i laughed out loud, i cant exaggerate how silly i felt for not sending any part of this back. Super lack luster visit, wouldn't be high on my recommendation list to anyone. Unfortunate. read more

Found this little spot while out on a site tour and I'll never forget it... best burger I've ever had, no kidding! Generous portions & friendly, attentive staff. Only loses one star because the interior dining room was a bit smoky from the grill. I'll definitely return next time I'm in the area. read more

The service was awful. I don't even think the girl knew she was at work because she didn't know anything. And was more interested in talking about her social life with another coworker. They gave me a bloody steak and I wanted it medium well. Flys was in my drink and in my salad. And they watered my whisky sour down. With actual water. Will not be coming back. 35 dollars wasted. read more

This is a tough one because there was a lot going on. I just want to say my pan fried walleye tasted phenomenal but I pulled at least 10 bones out of my mouth. I obviously came in at the right time or the worst time. There were about 7 tables that were super angry about service. I over heard the booth behind me say they were leaving having waited over an hour for food which still hadn't arrived. All but one person walked out to leave when the server said it was ready. The rest of the party came back in reluctantly. It didn't seem to end there for those hungry folks. Food was cold and sent back to the kitchen. The server nearly forgot my salad but she made it just before my entree came out. I never did receive bread with my meal. She never came back to check on me after my meal was served. My dinner also rang up a dollar more than what was listed on the menu. The entire ambience of the restaurant was destroyed by all the other patrons poor experience. read more

Service is great. Food is great. Love this place. Waitresses and bartenders are a lot of fun.

The cabins are brand new and the site is well maintained. The other guests were very nice. I would give it 5 stars but the horsing around finding it ( maybe flags around the sign?) and the check in process is cumbersome. The Ranchman's restaurant associated with it is excellent. Definitely a good nights experience. read more

Disappointing but edible in a pinch. The chicken and wild rice soup was actually quite good and was the highlight of the meal. The Walleye, which our waitress assured me could be blackened, came out pan fried as the chef apparently got mad at my request and said no. How about coming back and asking me rather than just charging ahead and delivering a pan fried fish to me? The fish was mild and tasty, but really lacked any zest. All sides (vegetables, bread, etc.) were liberally brushed with butter. Butter with a side of vegetables. My dining partner ordered a well done steak which came back pink and bleeding. Perhaps the chef new better than we did. In short, while our waitress was sweet and did her best, the food is edible in a pinch. Maybe the food would be better if I spent some time on the bar side of the buidling getting hammered first. That's the only way this place gets any more stars. read more

I just eat at this place and they were out of salad, fish breading and the service was bad. We waited over an hour to be served and I had to go up twice and get a drink. To add insult to injury I was charged a tip because of "special order ". I would never go back!! read more

I have lived in the area for many years and Ranchman's has always been a favorite of mine. But I have to be honest when I say that the last 4-5 visits have been disappointing at best. This past visit was undoubtedly the worst. First of all there had to be 40 flies in there. So gross. And there was no air at all. The temperature was the same inside as out, well into the high 90's. It was a fairly slow night, there was only 2 other tables in there with 2 (maybe 3) waitresses on the floor. The one with super short shorts on saw us and continued to ignore us. About 5 minutes after we got there a group of 3 young men came in and that waitress was there in a blink of an eye. So when I tried to flag her down to let her know that we haven't been helped she literally walked past me like we weren't there. So after 14 minutes (my husband was timing her) a different waitress comes out of nowhere. Real snotty and acting like we were bothering her. Meanwhile a few more tables with young men came and were helped immediately. So we finally ordered and never got our soup and salad until our meal came. THEN we got our soup and salad. I ordered the chopped steak, well done. The plate came with a piece of lettuce under it, so I pulled it out. There was blood on it. Tried to get my waitresses attention but they were too busy with the young men. I pretty much stood up and went to the back and stood there until they paid attention to me to pay my bill and left. I don't know what is going on but I do see many bad reviews on Facebook and their services. Not good. read more

Took over an hour for fish tacos and fries for me and soup and salad for my partner!!! Dining room was less than 25% full! No explanation given. Better off going to truck stop next door!!! Pathetic especially given the menu prices!!! read more
