She is, far and away, the most impressive Pilates instructor I have worked with. Pilates has especially helped relieve some chronic pain that I suffer due to repetitive use injuries (related to competitive gymnastics and diving in my youth). Kim is excellent at assessing bodies, their potential weaknesses and caters her class to each individuals' needs. The space is cozy and lots of one-on-one attention is given to students. However, I received an email from the studio owner on Wednesday, January 4th, 2012 saying that the Thursday class had been canceled. This was one day's notice. I had just purchased a new package in the middle of December for five additional classes. With Thursday being the only class that worked in my schedule, I was left with no other class options. I called the owner twice and emailed her once requesting a refund and some explanation, but she never contacted me. This morning, I stopped by her studio around 9:00am to see about the refund. She refused to refund my money and said, "schedules change all the time, but we don't do refunds." We argued for about ten minutes before I left. She never said why she had failed to return my calls or email. As I said to her this morning, I think the abrupt canceling of a class and the unwillingness to return phone calls or emails are both unprofessional. So, for now, I am forced to wait until the studio offers another early morning class so that I can use the classes I paid for.

So far I've tried boxing, strength, and flow. When I showed up for boxing, the atmosphere was incredibly welcoming. The woman who signed me up for the class even showed up to make sure I made it and introduce me to the instructor. She wasn't even scheduled to work--she just came and left after. The instructor Midge was very nice and inspirational and the entire class said hello and made me feel comfortable. Strength class kicked my butt. It was packed, fast paced, and I should have arrived earlier than ten minutes beforehand (ok, eight minutes beforehand). Flow class this morning was a great choice to stretch out my sore muscles from yesterday. Onward to my last trial class this week: cycling!
