Not a single sighting of Big Bird anywhere. :/ Jokes aside, Emily and I were getting out of town for the afternoon and set our sights on Springfield. We had a blast the last time we were here so it's only natural we would want to come back and do the same. As usual, I made a list of coffeehouses we could visit and Emily looked at their menu and picked a place. While she didn't see anything that grabbed her attention, she did like the vibes of the place. What were those vibes exactly? I'm not sure exactly but I kind of dug the place. Yellow Bird is in an old historic building that has more stories the walls could tell then we have a lifetime to listen to them. The interior had some antique vibes going for it along with what felt like a smattering of random things they found at estate sales. There were a lot of blank spaces and gaps in the decor that I felt could use something else... something to tie it together and the only thing I saw relating to birds were the overheard lights enshrouded in really cool looking bird cages. Any who, Emily ordered a flavored cold brew and I grabbed the ol' classic americano. We took a seat in these antique chairs after some people left and settled in. If you've read these blog posts, you know I can be particular on my americanos and in all the ones I've had, this one is pretty unique. I like americanos to have a bitter punch to the tastebuds but this one was smooth. Every sip lead me to expecting that punch but was greeted with a silky smooth sip each time. I could tell by Emily's reaction that she wasn't really feeling her cold brew, either. She has become an espresso fanatic like me but she decided to go back to her old favorite for something different. Something different is definitely what she got. I sampled her drink and it definitely had this weird artificial flavoring to it that did not go well with the cold brew at all. Emily tried to doctor her drink up with sugar but it still held that weird artificial flavor but by the time we got to our next destination, she had decided to pitch it. I ended up enjoying my americano by the last 1/3 of the cup. That's when the bitter started to kick in. We sat for awhile and absorbed the vibe of the place. Since it's more of an antique-y coffeehouse, Emily was enamored. Having an appreciation for old century build quality and the aesthetics of older furniture, I enjoyed absorbing the vibe of the place. But alas, the reason you come here is coffee (or food if you are hungry) and that was a big let down for us. Vibes, check. Coffee, maybe a re-try at a later date. I will say that the size of the ice cubes here are preposterously large. That got a good chuckle out of me. They were like 3x the size of the ones you get from the ice tray in your freezer. read more

They had in-house made brown sugar and bourbon vanilla syrups for the lattes... Highly recommend visiting here! The best coffee shop in Springfield. The (presumable) owners brought our food and drinks to the table and checked in to make sure everything was okay. They seemed genuinely excited to be doing what they were doing. The shop is smaller, but feels cozy with both tables and an area with a couch / chairs. My bourbon vanilla was perfect- not too sweet, not too much milk. All pastries are made in house and their baker knows what's up! Quiche crust was perfectly done, breakfast sandwich bread was fluffy and cinnamon roll was top notch. We will absolutely be back! read more

This little coffeehouse was such a wonderful find!! We each had the bacon and cheddar quiche and split a cinnamon roll! Both items were excellent. Their coffee was very good as well (and I am a bit of a coffee nerd!). The two ladies behind the counter were friendly and gave great service as well. So you have to try this place! read more

I ordered a breakfast sandwich and it was good. Ice tea was good but making it fresh means the ice melted. Not sure it's an item to make fresh? I would rather have a cold iced tea. The owner did her best to fix the issues, she was very nice. My order didn't print which I understand can happen. Unfortunately it happened when I had no time to spare. But in my waiting I noticed people either getting their drinks or their food but nothing at the same time. Some chaos knowing who's order is who's. They kept going around asking people if this was their order. An odd thing happened as well, my total was $8.50 so I handed her a 10 dollar bill and she gave me $1 back.... Overall it's a cute establishment with several coffee options and some killer looking cinnamon rolls. Just make sure you have plenty of time to wait. read more

They had a Saturday special affogato; espresso and ice cream with biscotti and caramel or chocolate syrup. They are open one Saturday a month right now. Also open M-F. Pecan rolls were delicious too. Service is always great. read more

We had a great time at the Yellow Bird Coffee House! The coffee and food were excellent and everyone was so friendly and helpful! There were five of us and we had my 96 year old blind mother and a 92 year old cousin. My sisters and I were bringing Mom in with her walker when we were greeted with the door opening and helping hands from two people, one of them an off-duty policeman (Possibly an owner or friends of owners). He was ready to assist again as we left the coffee house. Highly recommend! read more

First off, the employees were delightful and very efficient. The establishment is warm and welcoming. My daughter and I ordered cold lattes in different flavors and added smoke. We were disappointed that they both tasted the same as though no flavor or smoke was added. Just an iced latte. We also had a caramel roll. It was OK, but nothing I would rush back for.
