Gourmet Grilled Cheese with Bacon
Mollie M.

Lovely spot in Springfield, IL. You can get homemade chocolates for a loved one here, candy for the kiddos, brunch with a friend, or a coffee to go! I chose the brunch with a friend option and got a grilled cheese sandwich with bacon on it! I had never tried bacon on a grilled cheese before, and I don't think this will be my only time. It was yummy! The red velvet cake was delicious. Huge! Realistically perfect for two people though. I loved that each layer had cream in between. Shoutout to Shauntay (sorry if it's spelled wrong)! She took our order and was so fun to chat with and recommended different items for us to try. She also attempted to make a heart in my friend's coffee. She was so sweet! The vibe of this cafe was also great! It was super lively inside and even had outdoor seating for nicer weather.

Enticing vintage sugary (like an eatery but ... You get it)

Someone finally gave Cracker Barrel a makeover! This is the simple charm to treat the sweethtooth, vintage atmosphere given a refresh, lots of space and easy going menu. I have yet to see a more diabetes inducing thrill touting piles of candy, gorgeous icy shiny pastries, and sweet smiling staff happy to serve up all the right goods. Came just for coffee which despite little focus on the caffeine cherry beans was easy to drink but quite sugar biased and not any means a crafted brew. This feels right up the ole timer alley where grandkids are immediately at home and everyone quickly knows who is who by name. Can easily recommend this place for the casual conversation connoisseur.

Back again for their Saturday breakfast and it was amazing as usual! The gravy is so good....

I personally consider Pease's under the "cafe" classification as they have more than just candy/chocolate. There is an actual menu where you can get a salad or other smaller "cafe" style foods. The ambiance was soooo comfortable; maybe because it was raining and it's dropping into the cool days of autumn but to sit at a little four person table in front of a fire place and have a scone and hot cider was simply divine. I was having one of my classic festive fall ravings for pumpkin and apple, which ironically enough Pease's had both ready on deck. I had a freshly baked and warmed pumpkin scone with a cup of warm apple cider. My fiancé, the more traditional chocolate richness American eater of us, went with a decadent slice of Oreo cheesecake and coffee. We both wandered the store as we waited to go see our afternoon movie; the candy shelves, popcorn, baking room and amazing sweets were every place your eyes looked! The only reason I am at 4* (closer to 4.5) was I felt the prices were a bit high, yes, I know you get what you pay for but beware this is not the cheapest of chocolatiers I have visited. ***Second Visit*** Stopped back in for 217 Comfort Food Week after visiting Pease's for the first time a few weeks ago. Once again, the open face chicken pot pie with puff pastry was outstanding! And, while I was at it, I indulged in a massive chocolate chip muffin to boot! I am changing my rating to a full 5* even with the higher prices because everything I have seen or tried here is simply amazing! The ambiance was the same as last time; love this place more and more!!

Stopped at Pease's at Bunn Gourmet on a Sunday afternoon with some friends. It's a darling place! Who doesn't love candy and desserts? The colorful candy decorations are cute and we ordered two desserts, a couple of lattes, and got a package of chocolate covered oreos. One of my friends got the cookie dough cheesecake which looked amazing. I got the celebration cake. It was part cheesecake and part white birthday cake with sprinkles. Yes it was delicious! I took home a small package of chocolate covered oreos and enjoyed them in the days following. They were excellent. Really cute place and next time I'm in Springfield I will definitely be back!

Beautiful entrance area.

A great place for brunch or lunch. Their cozy fireplace inside or patio outside are great. I especially love their quiche and steak salad.

Ahhh, Pease's...the bane of every parent who had a child at Butler Elementary School right around…read morethe corner, and the most pleasurable part of going to school for said students, Pease's is a Springfield institution. Penny candies are displayed throughout the store, with little bags for gathering your selections. Many hard to find and obscure candies available by the piece - it's a great way to blow your allowance if you are 7 and a great way to blow your breakfast change from D&J if you are an adult. The real draw for most people (nostalgia trips notwithstanding) are the handmade chocolates. Pease's has been making chocolates in Springfield since the 1930's and is still family owned. You won't find chile infused chocolates here, but you will find great old fashioned candies, packaged by the sweetest ladies you ever met, it really is a wonderful place to pick up a gift or a little something for yourself.

I would hop on my bright orange Schwinn with the banana seat and ride like the wind to Peases. I would get a small brown paper bag and fill it with penny candies. Everyone at Peases is as sweet as they can be. My Grandmother gets each of us a large cream filled chocolate egg with our name on it every Easter from Peases. Now that my sister, mom and I live in AZ those eggs get flown out every year! It is a family tradition. Smallcakes Cupcakery And Creamery - The receipt showing how much I paid for 3 dozen cupcakes

Service was great, and the guy at the counter was polite and very nice. The rating is low because…read morethe cupcakes just did not taste good. We ordered a red velvet and a vanilla cupcake. The vanilla cupcake had grainy frosting where the sugar had not been properly creamed into the butter or fat and it was too sweet. It actually made me cough from how the sugar hit the back of my throat. The cake was very light, but nothing tasted like vanilla. It tasted like sugar and air. There was also entirely too much frosting for the density and size of the cupcake, and I say that as a person who usually loves frosting. The vanilla cupcake was both soft /falling apart and slightly overcooked at the same time. The red velvet was more balanced in flavor. However, it had the same sugary buttercream as the vanilla instead of the traditional cream cheese that one would expect with a red velvet cake and that frosting made it just too sugary to eat. The texture of the red velvet cupcake was better than the vanilla, though a bit too dry. I'm not sure what the people who gave this high reviews eight or what their exposure to food is, but this definitely did not do it for us.

Jody, the owner is not good at customer service. Was scooping ice cream right at the front & did not even acknowledge us when we walked in to pick up the cupcakes. Had an ugly snarl on his face. I will NEVER go back to this establishment!!! I will have Walmart cupcakes at my next birthday before I come back here!!!
