I worked with Cindy at Yellow Bird on my wedding invitations and HIGHLY recommend Yellow Bird if you're a north suburban Chicago bride. Initially I went to a fancy boutique store in Chicago and had a TERRIBLE experience with a salesperson who was impersonal and seemed to be hurrying us. Even worse, she seemed to be ignorant about their invitation selection and had zero ability to explain how the process works. My experience at Yellow Bird was a complete contrast. The staff were helpful, attentive, and Cindy worked with me for a long time so that my invitations were exactly what I wanted, making detailed and useful recommendations along they way. If you live in the northern suburbs, don't fall into the trap of the snotty, over-priced Chicago boutiques who sell the SAME invitations as Yellow Bird yet have terrible customer service skills. Apart from wedding invitations, I'd also like to mention that Yellow Bird sells wonderful products. I read a review below that suggested the store appeals to the septuagenarian crowd and sells "silly trinkets." That's ridiculous. Kitschy trinket stores are NOT my cup of tea.....in fact, I rather hate them. The products in Yellow Bird do not fall into this category. I find them to be beautiful and useful. For example, their picture frame selection isn't the ugly stuff you'll find at Walgreens, but it's not overpriced. Their candles, handbags, vases and other miscellaneous merchandise are excellent products, especially for gifts. I appreciate finely made objects, and this is what Yellow Bird carries. Yellow Bird is a strange niche store in Wilmette. As far as I can tell it caters to Wilmette's elderly population, since I was typically the only person under 70 when I came to Yellow Bird. It always was pretty empty so it surprises me that they're still around. The prices are high, and some of the trinkets are silly, however it suits its purpose if you want something like nice stationary. I ordered my wedding invitations from Yellow Bird and could not be happier with the entire experience. I had previously gone to Jane Weber Ink in the city had an awful encounter there (see review for more details). When I arrived at Yellow Bird, I already knew which invitiaton suite I wanted to go with but wasn't sure about proper wording, which fonts I wanted, etc. I worked with Bern and he was fantastic. Very patient, brought over an etiquette book for reference and was most helpful especially when I didn't want to go with the most formal approach and wanted to tweak things. He offered very useful suggestions and was open to helping me do it not exactly "by the book." I received the proof within a few days and had a few slight changes. I worked with Laura on those and she was very quick to make the changes and then send me another proof. Something happened with the order too that when we received it, we were short 24 invitiations. They immediately took care of it and we had the additional ones within a day or two. I ended up having an additional card printed for directions printed there as well. I was able to purchase the cards from the store and then they printed them for me in-house. They turned out great. Overall, a very pleasant and knowledgable staff to work with. Had great service from Cindy with wedding invitations. However when I called to follow up and order something else the person on the phone wouldn't listen to me. She complained (in a heavy Russian (?) accent) that they were too busy, and all the phone lines were busy and she didn't have time. when my mom and i set out to find wedding invitations, we went to the standard places in the city - paper source and all she wrote - and were really let down by the level of service there. no one seemed willing to sit down and help us figure out what our options were for our budget. enter yellow bird and cindy. i had an idea in mind of what i wanted but we didn't want to pay for the super expensive design that i was in love with. so with cindy's help, we were able to completely recreate the invitation at a less expensive price (and it looked EXACTLY the same!). cindy's expertise was so reassuring. i was confident that whatever she put together would be exactly what i wanted - and it was. the entire process was a cinch. we came back when it was time to order programs for the wedding ceremony and had the same wonderful experience. i again told cindy what i wanted, and she put it all together at a great price. when i need invitations in the future, this is where i am heading! read more

If it only occurred once, I would allow anyone can have a bad day BUT it's every time I've visited. Yellow Bird was extremely kind, patient, and professional during our wedding save the date, invitation, escort, and place card process prior to our wedding day. Laura is legit - she truly knows everything, from style, etiquette, wording, and is extremely friendly and makes your wedding day feel important! We were thrilled with our save the dates, invitations, and escort/place cards with the help of Jill. The only constructive note I have is that our invites seemed to all have a curve through them, versus laying totally flat - perhaps it was because the thickness of the paper, but when you're paying 1K for invites, you expect them to lay flat. However, we would still use them again, and will continue to shop there for cards, etc. even though we live in the city! It was worth the trip every time to place orders and pick them up. Very poor service for an establishment located on the northshore. The sales clerks were very disorganized. Additionally, their idea of gift wrapping starts with white out strips over the price that do not fully cover the price and can easliy be scratched off. We worked with Yellow Bird for our April 2015 wedding at the Waldorf Astoria in Chicago, and we absolutely loved them!! We looked at various stationary stores in the Chicagoland suburbs and city, and stopped at Yellow Bird for several reasons. The first and most important is that they have MANY different options to fit all tastes and needs. We were looking for pretty much everything, starting with our save the dates, invites, and wedding programs. Their selection was unparalleled. The second reason we chose to work with Yellow Bird is that they are affordable in comparison to our stores we looked at. The last reason is that Laura, the lady who helped us with everything at Yellow Bird - was unbelievable. I did not know anything about the protcol of save the dates and invites, and Laura advised me and helped me all along the way. Our guests loved everything - from the fun photo we used for our save the date, to the tasteful and classic Vera Wang invites, and ending with our cool programs (which had a little picture of a bride and groom at the top). Best invitation selection on the entire North Shore. Went recently to pick out my wedding invitations. I walked in with my fiancé and my mom and we were directed to a table and told someone would be with us shortly. A few minutes later, a very smiley woman came to greet us and asked what we were looking for. She was thrilled to hear we were getting married, and asked about the feel of our ceremony and reception so we could know what to look for. She pulled so many books for is to look through and had us mark the ones we liked. Once we had gone through the books, she went through each book and had us narrow it down to our favorite invitations. We narrowed it down to two, and had us take pictures and think about it, and we were back a few days later with our decision!
