With so many new restaurants in this area, PAN went under my radar so when this event came up I was really excited to learn of it and get a chance to give it a try. First impressions were the space was small and intimate, with a lovely outdoor seating area and a modern looking downstairs where we yelpers gathered to enjoy the evening. Since that area was a tad small we were pretty packed in there, sardine like. Wait times for drinks was a tad on the excessive side since only one bartender was serving the masses. She was very nice though and well deserving of the tip we gave. The complimentary drinks were not my favorite though and I wouldn't order them again. The one drink I did purchase wasn't bad but more on the meh side. Strong though so that's a plus. My favorite food samples were the wild Columbian river salmon Nigiri, the edamame hummus, and the fried tofu. The Salmon topped this list as it was fresh and satisfying. I could have just eaten a plate of that and I would have been good. The hummus was very tasty, but they dished a big spoon of hummus and only supplied a few plantains chips. So there was a lot of wasted hummus. The bit of fried tofu was a nice sweet way of ending the samples. Since I am not into fried or sweet things this small portion worked. I have to agree with others that with the space constraint and the way everything was managed it was a bit clumsy. The samples, like the drinks came slowly, but I am not one to kick a gift horse in the mouth. I enjoyed most of the food, and may make a return trip probably for brunch. Guess what? PAN serves Brunch on Saturday and Sunday. (and the menu looks amazing) PAN has a rooftop patio. PAN has a new dinner and cocktail menu. PAN's emphasis is on natural ingredients and modern Asian dishes. PAN's happy hours are 5--7 Tuesday thru Friday, and noon-3 on Saturday and Sunday. PAN offers catering. I learned this from viewing their website when I arrived home from the night. However, I would have preferred to hear it during the event, since it is always nice to hear about a business and what they have to offer, in order to encourage me to want to come back. The food industry is quite competitive, so it always helps to make yourself stand-out. Yelp events are a great way to meet-up with fellow yelpers and try new places. This event succeeded in this regard. I had a great time, the staff worked very hard to keep us going. Unfortunately, interaction between the staff and their yelper guests were at a bare minimum. I was starting to wonder if we were really welcomed in their restaurant, or were they just making the best of it. PAN looks like it has a lot to offer, and I am glad I had the opportunity to be part of the night. I have attended a handful of yelp events, and they were superior in every way, so I have to admit that this event cannot compare to these past experiences. Confusion and the lack of communication interferes with the flow of an event this size. I'm going to start off with the positive which is that I'll be back to give PAN our business because the food was really good. The event was smaller than most (still a packed house) but then it's a small restaurant. However, didn't seem they were quite prepared for all of us. Food samples did come out in a timely manner and they were good. But it seemed there was only one server for those of us seated in dining area. When she waited on us, it was great service but then she disappeared (later I saw her working the outdoor patio and bar where there also seemed to be not enough employees on duty). All in all I felt badly for the workers who had so many people to take care of. I'd say the owner should have had a couple of more employees on hand for a night like this. Because the space is small and a bit narrow it made it tough to walk around and mingle inside. The intimacy however is great for a quiet dinner. Again, the food and presentation were spot on and made up for the shortcomings. read more

We were anxious to experience Pan last night. The bar area is small but very attractively designed. There is a cocktail area and also a bar area in front of the open kitchen with some tables and cozy seating options. I was told there was also an upstairs dining area. You know when you have a dinner party & things don't go exactly the way you planned? The guests all arrive in a rush and you're not quite ready, the drinks are taking a while to make and food is taking longer than you thought to get finished. Then the guests start fading out the door before the best dishes you really wanted them to try were ready. That's pretty much what happened last night. The poor lone bartender had the entire bar surrounded 3 deep by 7:05pm. She was rocking the cocktails 5-6 at a time but the crowd just kept growing. Eventually a 2nd bartender began helping and the congestion eased soon after. The food staging left something to be desired although once it arrived, everything was tasty. The mackerel & salmon sushi bites were plated on the kitchen side counter early and then nothing more came out until 8:00pm when the edamame hummus came out. About 20 minutes later the short rib arrived, then the fried tofu about 10 minutes after the ribs were gone. Many people had gone before the ribs & tofu arrived and the executive chef spoke. I totally understand that things beyond your control often happen. Hosting an event like this is quite an undertaking and a learning experience for a fairly new business. I love getting to explore new places I might never have chosen myself so I was excited to check out PAN. Yelp Elite events are always a fabulous way to do just that. I really enjoyed getting to catch up with good Yelp friends, have a couple interesting cocktails, and sample some food. The event was fairly packed early on but it seemed that a lot of people left very quickly. I think the pacing of the event was off just a bit, things seemed a bit disorganized, one bartender could not handle providing the featured cocktails, and the food samples seemed not to arrive till nearly 8:00. If you can't get food or drink, I understand why the crowd thinned out so fast. It would have been nice to have the samples passed around with some explanation of what it was. I also enjoy hearing from the business owner so you get a feel for what they're trying to do and where they're headed. To me, that puts everything in context. Eventually we got a brief word from the executive chef but a lot of people had already gone. A big thanks to PAN for hosting us and letting us explore their offerings. And a huge thanks to Rachel and the Yelp team for putting together another fine event. While the food and drink weren't the kind I would normally order, I enjoyed it nonetheless!! read more

I drive past Pan almost everyday on my way to work and I didn't know they were right there. Yelp events always clear up my vision to concentrate on the new and upcoming restaurants and that is what happened at this latest Yelp Party at Pan. My wife and I walked into Pan and we received 2 drink tickets for each of us. It was a little confusing at first. We weren't sure if the tickets were for their regular drink menu or for a special Yelp menu. Eventually we found the Yelp menu and we got to choose from two different drinks. I tried both drinks. I liked the Dragonfruit at first. It had a good taste. It almost looks beet red but it was good. What I didn't like towards the bottom of the drink was a lot of pulp from the fruit. Some people like that I however don't care for it. The Shisho Sake Tea was ok. You couldn't taste really any alcohol in the drink unfortunately. It got a little too sweet for me in the end too. I'm more of a beer guy but it was nice to try a couple different drinks. While enjoying our drinks it was really nice to catch up with some good Yelp friends. While we were chatting the samples started to come out. First up was sushi! I'm not a big sushi guy. My wife is and she was looking forward to trying their sushi. I like sushi when it is quality and really good. If it's not quality I'm not going to like it. The sushi was quality here. I got to sample the Saba Bunkaboshi. It was really good and you could really taste all of the fresh ingredients in the roll. My wife first ate it and she thought that I wouldn't like it but I really did. In my picture you can see what is involved in the roll. Next up came the Wild Columbia River Salmon. It was great. My wife loved it too! Like I said I rarely eat any sushi but if I indulge into some sushi and I give them 2 thumbs up then you need to try it. Two thumbs up here so try their sushi! Next we got to try their Edamame Hummus with Plantain chips. This was good too. They only gave us a few chips with the hummus but I asked for more chips and we got to finish the rest of our hummus. The hummus had a really good and refreshing flavor to it. Good for snacking! The final two samples that came out were the Singapore Spare Ribs and the Korean Fried Tofu. The rib samples that I got didn't have any bones in them. My wife tried a couple but she got bones. I thought they were just ok. They were a little tough but the flavor was good on the ribs. The Tofu was really good. I'm not a Tofu fan I probably won't ever try it again but still they were good. Usually when I taste Tofu I can tell by the taste but if somebody just randomly gave me this to eat I wouldn't be able to tell it was tofu. This is a nice new place that you should try out. Another fun evening with my Yelp Elite friends! I had previously visited this space when it was Tamari, so I was excited to give Pan a try. Overall, I thought the quality of the food was wonderful. The edamame hummus with plantain chips was hands down a favorite. I could have eaten a whole bowl of it! This was actually my first time ever trying Nigiri, and while I was a little skeptical at first, I ended up really enjoying the flavor. Also notable was the tofu - I typically pass on tofu dishes, but the crispiness of it partnered with the amazing sauce made it so delicious! The drinks were good as well; I wasn't a huge fan of the dragonfruit cocktail as it was a little sweet for me, but the sake cocktail was light and refreshing. I would definitely come back to Pan for a happy hour in the near future. On the other hand, I did find the setup of the event a little confusing. One of my favorite parts of a Yelp Elite event is when we get to hear from the business owner, head chef, or head bartender. I always love to get a little more detail on the history of the space and the menu options. We did get to hear from a staff member near the end of the night, but the music was so loud we unfortunately couldn't hear much of what he said. I think it might have been helpful to have just a little more structure to the evening; whenever new dishes were brought out, it was a mad dash to the counter in a very tight, narrow area! Don't get me wrong, my guest and I absolutely loved the event - I just think a little more structure (and maybe a couple more bartenders!) would have allowed Pan to shine even more than it already did. All in all, I enjoyed this event and am thrilled that I got to try a new restaurant in my neighborhood! read more

The drinks were the highlight of the event. I loved the dragonfruit cocktail which wasn't too sweet but not too bitter. The green tea cocktail was also subtle and delicious. The interior is nice and the location is convenient (its where Tamari used to be). They have TVs to watch games on... which seems to be the norm these days for establishments that have bars. The interior is attractive but since the place is so small and the kitchen is open its a bit stuffy. I liked the edamame chips and dip and the ribs were ok. Not a fan of the other food they served. I will definitely add PAN to my list of placing to try during happy hour (they have a day time special on weekends too, SCORE). Hopefully I can up the star rating after that. read more

I was really looking forward to this Yelp elite event, as I have dined at Pan once before and really enjoyed it. I love the ambiance that Pan has to offer, whether it's the intimate indoor dining or the outdoor patio it's an all around great dining experience. I was really happy to hear that the food that was tasted last night will be on their new menu. Honestly, there isn't 1 thing that I tried that I didn't enjoy. The edamame hummus tasted very refreshing and I would have never of thought about pairing it with plantain chips but it was the perfect duo and perfect snack. The Korean fried tofu was also incredible with the peanuts sprinkled on top. You cannot go wrong with throwing peanuts on everything! The tamerind bbq ribs were marinated with just the right amount of flavor. I was also a big fan of the Saba bunkaboshi smoked mackerel sushi! That was my first time trying mackerel and I would definitely get it again! I know I will be back very soon!! read more

This is the first event where I felt the sponsor restaurant is unprepared. There aren't enough people in the kitchen or the bar. There should be more than one bartender especially for an event like this. The major problem for me was it takes a long time for everything to come out. And when it did come out, all the food was gone in no time. If you stepped out or go to the rest room, then you most likely will miss the food. The food itself was pretty good, I always like the sushi in PAN. I also really enjoy the concept where you can see the chefs preparing food. A lot of authentic Asian restaurants like to do that. Very cool spot, didn't get up to the 2nd floor deck to see the sunset but the owner said it is a great spot to watch it. A pregnant lady walks into a sushi restaurant... I knew going into this event I might not be able to partake in all things raw or boozy. BUT, the food I had I really enjoyed; especially the tofu (surprisingly), as well as the nibbles of sushi I figured were a-ok to try. OH - and the edamame hummus that I'm not ashamed to say I licked straight out of the bowl after enjoying it first on the plantain chips. In addition, though I didn't take advantage of the green tea/sake sensation, I did appreciate the green tea by itself. Overall, it's always just nice seeing friendly faces and relaxing the night away, which I did outside on Pan's "porch." I'm not sure why more Yelpers didn't take advantage of the gorgeous weather and great atmosphere out there, but more room for me! So, as a restaurant, if you're going to sign up for a promotional event like this, you should probably do it right... This was my first Yelp Elite event! Woohoo! And it pretty much met my expectations, which, to be honest, weren't very high, because I've read the reviews for this place, and they're pretty lackluster. BUT I was hopeful that Rachel could work her usual magic and that the staff would pull together something special for this one-time event. But alas, everything tasted and felt pretty half-assed, from the sparse bites of rather unimaginative dishes to the chef's even sparser ( and cringily self-deprecating) words about the business to the already mentioned one-woman bar where it took me about 20 minutes to get my first drink. Sadly, the drinks turned out to be by far the best part. While the edamame hummus was satisfyingly flavorful, the sushi samples offered managed to be at once dry and goopy from the thick sauce that completely hid any other flavors. This seemed to be the theme with the menu offered, as the short ribs were covered with a thick, sour sauce as well. While they were marketed as Korean, they did not taste like any traditionally Asian sauces I've ever had, Korean or otherwise. Ah, the perils of "Asian fusion" strike again. What the unappetizing sauce could not cover, however, was the EXTREMELY dry and tough pork underneath, which sported a thick, barely chewable crust from being beaten into submission by severe overcooking. Finally, the tofu was a tad bit more successful, as the fried, breaded crust on it was at least intentional, and the peanuty garnish lent some flavor beyond the heavy aroma of sesame oil that otherwise overwhelmed. However, once one got beyond the breading, the actual tofu inside was completely flavorless. Yes, I found this tasteless tofu disappointing, because no, contrary to popular belief, tofu is supposed to be able to carry great flavors. As someone of Chinese heritage, I grew up eating authentic tofu of all varieties: silken and creamy and braised or stewed, firm and stir fried, deep-fried puffs, rehydrated braided tofu skin, smoked tofu, marinated five-spice tofu, tofu fermented to near cheesiness, etc. etc. etc. Tofu has great potential to be delicious. It is not a "meat substitute." It's just tofu. It's one of my favorite foods for its flavor and texture and versatility. But this tofu made me incredibly sad. This was probably my 3rd yelp event and I have to say this one was probably my favorite so far. I've had Pan on my list of restaurants to try for a while now but at the rate I keep adding restaurants I haven't been able to make it there yet. I was so excited when I saw they were having a yelp event so I could give it a try. I think the main reason I preferred this event over the others was because they had a menu outlining everything you were going to be tasting. I really liked that aspect. Everything that we tried was also amazing. I didn't even know edamame hummus was a thing but it's safe to say I now need to find it or I need to find a recipe so I can make some for myself. I have to say my favorite of all the options was definitely the tofu. I know a lot of people are hesitant to try tofu but if you are going to give tofu even the slightest chance I recommend you give this one a try. Chances are you won't even notice you are eating tofu. Which is exactly how tofu should be if it is done correctly. We also got a chance to talk to the chef directly to ask about his new menu that he is rolling out which was awesome. All in all, I'm looking forward to going back some day soon! read more

Really cool party! The taps were so clean and the linen had to've been ironed. Probably with one of those irons that's really heavy. I think those light weight irons are very bad. Very disappointing. Sometimes the steam is nothing more than a bunch of water dripping on your garment. And then you iron just to get rid of the water. But then it leaks even more! It's really hard to understand the settings on irons. Should it be set on cotton? Linen? I mean I really don't know. Some irons take a long time to heat up and then there are other irons that I've noticed heat up very quick. Great party. read more

My friend and I had a wonderful time at the Yelp Party at Pan. We arrived early and ordered a draft prosecco. The menu items rolled out a few at a time. The Mackeral roll was the first item I sampled. I'm don't normally go for sushi and this roll was just a bit too fishy for my taste. However, the wild Columbia salmon was fantastic, I could be converted after tasting this. Next we sampled the edamame hummus with soy truffle plantain chips. This was a refreshing twist to traditional edamame and would be my pick for an appetizer on a return trip. Next up were the Singapore spare ribs. The sauce was tangy and sweet, everything I look for in my BBQ selections. The meat was a little chewy but I would be willing to try this dish again! Last up was the Korean Fried tofu and what a great dish to end the evening - the flavor was fantastic and the tofu was nice a crispy. A great alternative to meat for anyone who regularly orders a chicken dish....you might not even notice the difference! I enjoyed speaking to the head chef and he recommended that we check out the 2nd floor balcony. My friend and I both grabbed drinks, I had the Dragonfruit 75 and she opted for the shisho sake tea. We took in the views of the city and noticed a few little intimate dining parties doing the same. When I return I hope this is where my seat will be!
