I had been to one of their other stores in Virginia, and I was glad to see that this store is so close to me. They have a far greater selection when it comes to fruits, organic drinks, and nuts and berries. In fact, very few of their these roducts come in boxes. I purchased abquarter pound of wild blueberry granola, and vegetable chips mix. There is a sushi section, and believe it or not ready-made lunch sandwiches. I purchased a turkey croissant sandwich to eat for lunch. I couldn't resist a Kioa cold brew coffee as well. I especially like the authentic peanut butter machine, where you can make your own. Everything is totally awesome about this store, and I do believe it's even more affordable than the big chain organic grocery store. read more

Yes, it's pricey but the store is clean, well-lit, and invitingly laid out. This is what I imagine a local grocery store to be. The shelves were stocked and full and there were so many fun items to find. We were looking for a special high-end ice cream and popped in here to find it. We found two flavors! I also snagged a snack that was on sale. The store was practically empty when we were there and it was quite nice not having to navigate around anyone as the aisles are not very wide. read more

Very expensive! But good in a pinch, especially because they are open later than many grocery stores and they have a lot of premade soups/salads/sandwiches!! They're right by my work so very convenient! Their layout is very weird and a bit hard to navigate at first. Their staff could be friendly, but they are not rude by any means- they're just trying to get through the work day! All of their brands are specialty and as their name suggests, many of their items are organic. This makes it expensive. I got their chicken salad which desperately needed salt, but was otherwise very yummy and the perfect chicken salad consistency!! A little bit of crunch of the celery, creamy from the mayo, and a good mix of shredded and bigger pieces of chicken. I also got their premade kale salad with chickpeas and it was delicious! I was very tempted to pick up a pound of organic coffee, but I rolled right past the aisle and headed for some of the items that I knew I wanted to buy. I don't come to this store or any of their other locations very often, but today was the start of the holiday weekend, and I often do things that are out of the ordinary. That being said, I am not the biggest connoisseur of organic food. What I had purchased from here before was the Brie Tour de Marze organic cheese. It was difficult to put it down the last time, so I figured I would get this item again. Apart from that I got a gallon of the Yes organic milk, and also a 28 ounce bottle of Three Trees pistachio nut milk. It looked interesting so I will let you know how it turns out taste wise. Finally, I went for a package of cream cheese roll sushi, so I could eat something awesome for lunch. I love the uniqueness of this store! read more

Several years later, I've come to appreciate this store. I don't buy all of my groceries here; though it's a great place to just grab a few things. Their vegan dairy selection keeps growing. Yay! The locally-baked bread is tasty. Their beer and wine selections focus on smaller brands and batches, which I appreciate. Their sushi hits the spot if you've had a craving. The line moves fast, when it exists at all. Safeway has become expensive and questionable over the years, so I mostly avoid it now and use Costco and Yes!. read more

I pretty much come here only to get certain items if I need to be quick and am in the area. Typically I'll get canned or bottled drinks like water, kombucha, or coffee. Sometimes I'll get lemons. Sometimes I'll get tart cherry juice. Maybe whole milk yogurt if I'm in the mood to try something different from what's at Aldi, TJ's, or Whole Foods. Other than these, I don't do my grocery shopping here. With so many locations though, I would like for Yes to have some sort of loyalty program. I tend to stop by Yes! a lot. All of this is based on saving time because it sure isn't based on saving money. So there we face one of our societies big conundrums; How do we have appealing, healthy options which are also affordable. A lot to ask in a place where so many residents live in food deserts. Knowing what I am dealing with, I tend to stop by Yes! for specific brands that I haven't seen in other stores. blk. alkaline water for one. I love that stuff. It's like investing. I pay 2 dollars and change; it tastes good and I am another step closer to being in Black financially. Clear water is like Jay Z and Yeezy doing a song with Mr. Hudson. blk. is like Jigga and Yeezus doing a collabo with Frank Ocean. I can go on and on. Yes! was really coming through with the Hope Coconut Curry Hummus but they haven't stocked that in awhile. I was really buying up that stuff. Since Yes! doesn't seem to be carrying it I just might circumvent them and buy enough hummus to last me and my fridge "for the rest of our lives." Reading some of the reviews I did see a few people mention that some of the fruits and veggies could be bad. I've only purchased Mangoes when they were on sale. Other than that I am going elsewhere for my perishables. Once a Natalie's Orchard juice I'd purchased was bad, a day before the expiration date but that could happen anywhere. It is what it is. Personally, I am a big fan of Yes! market. It is expensive, which I understand for some products. For example, some of their cereal and drinks are expensive, but they are great quality and taste better and healthier than Harris Teeter. However, for some products, such as generic brand oat milk, has no reason to be $7 when it is $4 at Trader Joe's. The employees here are nice, and I have never had a problem with them. This place is super convenient with parking always available somewhere. I love the focus on local and organic produce, and unlike supermarkets, they label the origin in big written words on a sign with the produce. Some produce is pricy, but supporting local, organic farmers and this business is fine if you can afford it. If cost is a concern, go for bulk food! Tons of great choices! They also have weekly and monthly specials to help you stock up. They have coupons from manufacturers lying around, too. I especially find it important to support a local market with the entry of a supermarket to the area. Yes also has some great food to go, ready to eat. So good!! Love this place! read more

Purchased a packet of Turkey bacon from the 12th street location, went to return because the beacon turned GREEN in less than three days. The manager was not on site, however a gentleman from the back came to assist. It gets better, I asked him his name when I called to see if the manager had returned, I found out that he had given me an incorrect name. WOW He was rude, unprofessional asked if I had a receipt, (IN WHICH I DID NOT), his attitude sucked and I will never ever shop at this location ever again, an its my neighborhood store. This is a terrific little grocery that impresses me every time I go there. Great place, actually the only place, to get fresh organic stuff in Petworth. Simple items like bread, milk and eggs are excellent. Also, great deals on wine and beer. The highlight is the fruit selection. Apples are frequently locally procured, organic, and at prices that frequently beat the chain stores. Service is good. They quickly get you out and the line moves fast. Store stays busy, but most people are just grabbing a few items. Considering the only alternative is the Un-Safeway grocery store (blight!) a couple blocks away, Yes! is a Godsend. I will starve on the curb before I go to that Safeway. Things to improve: I can't imagine some of the stocked items appeal to Petworth. I don't know many of my neighbors (including me) who are interested in $8 a quart ice cream. Lower priced alternatives would be better on some of this. I could be wrong. Regarding the reviews commenting on spoilage, note the date of the reviews. It seems that Yes! has worked out the bugs since their opening. I haven't witnessed any spoilage or freshness problems during my patronage. Well done, Yes! read more

Say yes to Yes! Sorry, the only reason I'm reviewing this is for that pun. I'm not much on fancy-shmancy organic stores (read: Whole Foods) because a lot of the time they're the same stuff as regular stores, but twice as expensive. But Yes! has a very good selection! And their produce is excellent. I would, however, avoid their meager meat offerings (with the exception of their bacon). It's very expensive and you can get better virtually anywhere else. This is a great alternative to Whole Foods and Trader Joe's... especially since there isn't a Whole Foods or Trader Joe's nearby. Yes, the prices are a bit higher than Safeway's, but (unfortunately) there's a premium for healthy food. I love the layout of this store, everything is easy to find, and they carry all of my favorite brands of hair care products (Giovanni), skincare (Aubrey Organics), cleaning products (Mrs. Meyer's), and even cat food (Wellness). This is my neighborhood Yes! and I think it's the best one in the area because it's a lot more spacious than the Adam's Morgan and 14th St locations. The staff is attentive and always ready to help and answer questions. This is the closest organic grocer to my house so by default I end up here pretty often. The prices here are pretty high even for organic goods, I used to shop at MOM's and they are a bit higher priced. The good thing is that they occasionally have sales or "2 for" deals, which helps a little. Certain items here tend to be better than others. For example the Avocados and Mangos are always A+, but then the berries tend to be bitter and I've gotten a few rotten onions here. I really enjoy that Yes has ingredients you cant get elsewhere so I do come back over and over for that. I prefer to get my organic basics from a larger chain store, and my produce from a farmers market. Yes! can take care of the rest. Lastly I come here pretty often, I think my boyfriend an I must spend $600 here a month which is pretty high. The associates see us all the time, and they act like they've never seen us before. At this point we should be family! lol. It may be mutual awkwardness but I think they need to step up the customer service if people are going to spend their entire paychecks here. read more

I absolutely love Yes! market. It is the best place to grab healthy goodies when making a mad dash between work, childcare, and home. The market is small and never over crowded. Plus, it has an incredible variety of heirloom produce and specialty meats. Not to mention, all the essentials for those with food restrictions. I did the gluten-free thing for a while because wheat and a flat tummy seem to not go together, at least for my body anyway. Thankfully, I was able to get all kinds of things to eat here from gluten-free pizzas to snacks. It was great. This Yes! Market even sells growlers of locally brewed beer. What more could anyone ask for? And, if that wasn't enough, they always have the Liberté yogurt I love in plenty of variety. The only downside to this place is the decor. It could use a little love. It's kind of dark and depressing. There is no urge to linger and peruse the shelves. You just want to get in and out because there is nothing enticing you to stay. Well, there is the fact that the store manager is a super cutie. Ogling him is always worth an extra stroll though the aisles! :) read more

A nice looking Yes location as they go. Larger aisles than most. Their bulk section was substantial, and they seemed quite well stocked overall. I can't recall any of the other ones having a beer and wine selection this large, but it was a significant part of the store. They also had larger selections than my local Yes market for cheese and hummus/dips. This one seemed oddly oriented towards stuff people buy for parties. As with any Yes market, it's pretty expensive for general groceries; nice to stop in and try to catch a few items on sale or mine the bulk bins. read more

The first time I came, the produce section was lacking. I just headed in the other morning and wow, it was packed with PERFECT options! The 5 stars, however, is really for their seafood. The Scottish salmon was some of the best I've ever had! They also had a wild caught yellowfin tuna that made me want to rip the package open and eat it raw! The scallops were plump, the shrimp were exquisitely packaged, and they had monkfish!! Definitely a re-do. read more

If I had a good Safeway nearby, I probably would not go here very often because of the price tag for food. It is definitely more expensive than Safeway, but I at least enjoy the food I get here. The fruit and veggies are delicious and organic. The milk and bread is pretty expensive. One thing I like about this place is that there is no conveyor belt, just a counter. It makes it feel like a smaller, neighborhood grocery store that you go to frequently to pick up a few things. The music selection is also really good. Since the Safeway down the street is dirty, unorganized, and an overall depressing experience, I will choose Yes for most of my grocery needs. read more

Back when this location opened I thought it would be a great addition to the neighborhood. In the years since, I avoid coming here and only do so when I have zero other option. The prices are ridiculous! $9 for a gallon of store brand milk?! $10 for a half gallon of Ice Cream? $2.99 for a bunch of cilantro? I guess if you can afford to shop here maybe you don't care or realize how absolutely gouging these prices are. Ironic considering I can't walk into the store without being solicited by someone asking for money. I was really surprised a couple weeks ago when I saw signs at Yes Organic reserving all the tables for police officers. I immediately contacted them regarding this and asked them to take down the signs. It turns out that Yes actively encourages police presence at their stores. I tried to explain to them that the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has a troubling record of targettng marginalized communities in the neighborhood, especially residents of color, poor residents, and individuals experiencing homelessess. However, they were not concerned about the long history of abuses by MPD. I am deeply disappointed and disturbed that Yes Organic cares more about collaborating with MPD than with promoting safety for their customers and community. I shop at Yes Organic to buy more ethically sourced food, but it's really upsetting that doing so means I'm supporting an institution that doesn't care about keeping our local community safe. read more

Their beer and wine selection is great for a grocery store, with local beers and small craft beers from across the country (even Utah!). While I this many things here are quite overpriced, it does have items I can't find anywhere else which I appreciate! I would recommend coming here for specific speciality items. read more

Friendly and super eager to help staff. Seriously, someone always stops to check if you look even remotely confused, and the other night, I was trying to pop in and out before they closed, and one of the staff offered to look for something in the back even though they were literally a minute from close. The wines are a little overpriced, but they have a really interesting selection of beers that are pretty on par pricewise with regular grocery stores, awesome unusual sodas like Bruce Cost's ginger ale and St Belvoir elderflower presse, locally made or specialty ice creams and gelatos, and lots of hippie organic natural bath and beauty products like all kinds of Dr Bronners including the rose scent. They also have some beers available to take home in growlers - good for a party! Selection of foods is limited, but hey, it's a pretty small store. read more

For peace of mind from nervous suffering, you will pay an inordinate amount of money for your groceries. I came here to see if Colombian goldenberries were available, these being fruits of a genus I had no knowledge of. The $3 per pound cabbage shook me to my core, I wept, and left the area. Usually I will buy an item because I feel awkward not doing so, but as one feels no pity for the Ponzi schemer who falls in an open sewer, I had no problem leaving Yes! empty-handed. I will keep in mind that you are free to insist on no-GMO, organic, and other Bogeyman-free groceries. This, despite the lack of any evidence that GMOs hurt us, that organic food is healthier, that lizard men run the government, or that dairy hormones can be absorbed through stomach lining (if you're going to mainline that 2% milk, by all means insist on hormone free). In closing, I once met a Guatemalan coffee farmer. I brought up the practices surrounding his organic vs non-organic coffee, and he freely admitted that it was just additional paperwork that brought a higher price point. The 2 stars are for service and prices. I have never been greeted or helped going into this store, and the service at the check-out is always the same, god forbid I interrupt the conversation between the two cashiers drinking their coffee. Today was the third time this had happened (on different times/different days), so I asked if the manager was in and the girl simply said "No." and turned away from me. Furthermore, I find it kind of hilarious that all the other reviews exalt Yes! for their prices. Yes, it may be a lot cleaner and quieter than Giant but at least I can get rice for $1.99 at Giant rather than a whopping $4.99 for the same box of Far East. And f I'm going to pay $3.99 for tomatoes, they shouldn't already be badly bruised. Okay rant over. I'll probably still go because of the location- but that's it. read more

I love this store, their staff, selection, and service. They have a broad selection of every funky flour, allergen free ingredients, and if you can't find it - they will help you. They will order what you need. They care so much about making the customer happy and helping you find what you need. And they do it with a smile and sense of humor. Huge fan of Yes! Petworth. Keep it up, guys! P.S. They have Glutenberg, an actually gluten free beer that tastes like beer and isn't gluten removed, unlike Omission and Glutiny by New Belgium. I like this place - primarily because (1) I can find interesting and allegedly healthy grocery items without confronting the pretentious attitudes of the Whole Foods and Trader Joe's customer base. Ha. That and (2) I live just down the block - so it's convenient (I'm quite lazy sometimes). I never bought into the whole "organic" trend, primarily because I'm sure it was conceived in a communications department meeting room somewhere in an effort to position a brand in a better light. That and I pretty much don't really care either way - but I love coming to this place. The staff is rather friendly, and I like just browsing the aisles and looking at all the goodness. That and if I cannot find something I need at Safeway down the street, I can usually turn to this store - not the other way around because the selection here is small depending on what you are looking for, which I'm guessing is due to the tiny size of the leased space. I stopped in today to get some lunch essentials for the work week, and also just to check it out and slake my curiosity. First impression: It's much, much bigger inside than it looks on the outside. Second impression: A lot of that space is devoted to makeup, supplements and the beer/liquor aisle. Third impression: Wow, this is kind of expensive. I tend to work odd hours (late morning to mid-evening) and like eating out, so when I cook at home I want something healthy but quick and simple. The prepared-meals section here is fairly limited, but it does have a good selection of frozen vegetables, potato products, waffles and a TON of frozen meatless options (think Quorn). I'm not a vegetarian or a vegan, but if you are, I'm sure the store would make you very happy. The meat department was less extensive than I would have hoped (which I suppose is to be expected in a store that caters to vegetarians), and both the meat and the eggs were out of my price range, or at least, more than I was willing to pay. The strongest things to be said for the store's selections are its range of special-diet foods (including an impressive non-dairy milk selection) and its ethnic section (Indian and Asian foods especially, which can be hard to find). It also has generous produce and cheese sections. As to the non-food aisles, I go grocery shopping to get food, not eight million supplements -- I think the store could manage its floor space better. It's not perfect -- don't go in expecting the Foggy Bottom's Whole Foods or anything -- but for being an organic market in an up-and-coming neighborhood, it's not bad and has all or at least most of your basics covered. I just need to look elsewhere for eggs and meat. Oh, one more negative: The store doesn't accept Amex. Not a deal-breaker, mostly just inconvenient. read more

I was not very happy with how the interaction was between me and the cashier, i believe her name was Belle, she was very abrasive when I asked her a question concerning a product I was looking for. She seemed very irritated, but when her notice her interactions with a "Non-African American" she was very pleasant, go figure. I have lived in NW DC all my life, left to serve my country and came back, I was born and raised here, and what makes these blends so hard that come by way of gentrifying is these types of experiences. When i spoke with the lead or supervisor i believe his name was John, he attributed it to her being a "Female". So.......good customer service I guess is now based on gender and emotions.
