The ambiance is very nice for a grocery store, and I love how clean and fully stocked it is. It makes me happy to be able to find what I need and check out quickly because the store is never too crowded.

I've really never reviewed MOM's, after all these years of being a semi-regular customer? Don't go here if you are a huge meat eater. Do stop in for a great selection of teas, produce (though $$$!), odds and ends, and beverages of all kinds. MOM's is known to be the only local shop I can count on to carry Southern Tier Pumking in the fall, for example. MOM's also has a great selection of kombucha and other fermented and interesting n/a drinks! You can park in the parking garage on level three; just be sure to validate your ticket inside. It didn't used to be required and now it is. The cashier's at MOM's are always friendly and efficient, though they tend to only have one lane open at a time. Best part of all for parents of littles -- aisles are BIG and it's a wonderful place to take a toddler or two if they just need to get out of the house and you want to have a nice little shopping experience. I have so many memories that involve MOM's as a destination so that I can buy fancy gnocchi with the true reason being that my kids have stuff to look at, the other customers are sparse, and there is room for littles to roam, or for the cart to spin around to keep them occupied. If you know you know.

To be so small, it is packed with lots of good finds. Plenty of samples to goo around too...well sorta...COVID has kinda shut that down these days. At this market, you will find a full variety of conventional and certified organic fruits and vegetables, pasture-raised meat, poultry and eggs, artisan sweet and savory baked goods, fresh milk, butter, yogurt, goat/cow cheeses, fermented foods and pickles, jams, jellies and sauces, flowers, plants, handmade soaps, and more! You name it, this market has it all. One additional note to know...."It's a year-round" market! Unlike most farmer's markets in the area, where you are limited to summer-only and seasonal openings. The market is open only on Saturday mornings between the hours of 9am-1pm. Parking is available on the streets for free and parking meters are free as well on weekend. And, if it helps...all vendors accepts SNAP/Food Stamps and WIC. In all, lot's of great finds and a great way to connect with local farmers in/around the DC metropolitan area. It is definitely worth a visit. It's the perfect place to spend part of your Saturday morning on a nice day...and on the cheap.

On Tuesday…read moreevenings from May through October, from about 4-7pm, just a handful of people set up shop underneath the Michigan Ave overpass. The market is anchored by Mike and his Licking Creek Farms team, who bring bounties of fresh, quality, and (most importantly) affordable vegetation. I'm talking heirloom apples and tomatoes for less than you pay for basic shit at Giant. Plus, Mike will usually be walking around cutting off sample pieces of whatever he's particularly proud of that day. Admittedly, I've been convinced several times to buy something I hadn't intended to after he gave me a piece of succulent produce. The other vendors might have baked goods or herbs or artsy handy-craft stuff for sale; to be honest, I would trade all of that to have someone hawking animal flesh, but so far my wishes are unfulfilled. For people who think Eastern Market or DuPont market are the coolest things ever: stay away, you won't like the Brookland version. Mike and many of his guys are still covered in dirt; you might have to walk in some mud; there isn't a huge selection; no one is impressed that you're trying to make a lifestyle statement by buying "local" or whatever; it's not a place to socialize or people-watch. However, if you treasure simplicity, great value, and down-to-earth people, then the Tuesday evening Brookland Market may be worth a visit. PS Bring cash and your own bags.
