Sometimes she surprises me with how much she knows, because even though my husband I teach things at home and reinforce everything from daycare, we haven't taught her nearly as much as she has learned at A+. She is always clean, always smells good, always happy and well taken care of while at daycare. The environment is safe and an amazing place for your child. We had a few minor issues but discussed them with the staff and seemed to be better. Our biggest problems started when our son was moved into the 2 year old room. The teachers in that room were nice but very young and the only reason i mention age is they didn't seem to have a lot of experience. Our son spoke at home but we only learned months after our son had been in the class that he didn't say anything while there not even "Hi" or other little words.He started acting out and that was when it finally came out that he did not speak. I've never been a child educator or worked in daycare but having been around many younger children i know by two most kids say at least a few words. The teachers said they were trying to work with our son after they learned he did speak at home but we made the decision to eventually leave the daycare. The staff was friendly and said things we wanted to hear but many were very young and looked to me for ideas on things to try. We were told their class followed a schedule everyday but whenever I was in the building it seemed to be just playing. Having boys i've found that structure has definitely been more beneficial to them for learning than play based. We put our son in another daycare that seemed to be more structured and once our son became more comfortable he was speaking in class and the new class was definitely a better fit. This school does some special programming for the kids which is nice but definitely could use a bit more variety with different teachers and their experience level.

Ms. Ivey has owned and operated the center for over 30 years and what I like is that most of the staff that was there when my 11 year old went there, is still currently employed there. They have lots of activities and programs for the kids to participate in, it's a nurturing environment that has an open door policy. My daughter is 7 and has been receiving tutoring through Total Tutoring for several years. I…read morestarted my daughter young because I feel that her education is very important. At first the sessions were great! The tutors were effective and my daughter made a lot of progress in a short period of time. Honestly, I was very happy with the results of the tutoring sessions, and as a result, decided to have my daughter receive Spanish tutoring. I contacted Total Tutoring and organized for a spanish tutor to come to my house for weekly lessons. These sessions were scheduled for 30 minutes at the request of the tutor due to my daughters young age. The lessons began in September of last year, and as of today, she does not understand the phrase "Hola, como estas?". Needless to say her progress has been minimal. During the time my daughter has been receiving lessons from her tutor, Nannette Simmons, I noticed that she was consistently showing up late and leaving early which is discouraging considering the cost of each lesson. I contacted the agency to express my concerns and asked for a different tutor. I was told by Total Tutoring that they would try to find someone new to replace Nannette. Yesterday (December 2nd), the tutor again showed up late, so I decided to set a 30 minute timer. No surprise, the tutor was leaving early. I informed Nannette that should would no longer be tutoring my daughter and told her it was because she was consistently showing up late and leaving early. After each tutoring session we receive an email with a session summary; this is meant to highlight progress and address areas of weakness for my daughter to work on. I received the session report for the final summary and it was blank. I contacted Total Tutoring, cc'ing Nannette, expressing my opinion that this was unprofessional. I received an update session summary which was even more unprofessional!!! Nannette's updated session summary placed the blame entirely on my daughter!!! She took no responsibility for her actions. I responded to Total Tutoring again, extremely upset with the unprofessionalism shown by Nannette. Total Tutoring's reply was that they should have edited her comments before sending them to me. They took no responsibility for Nannette and did not acknowledge her unprofessionalism even knowing my frustration. They did not apologize for her comments, only stating I should not have seen them. Total Tutoring would get a higher review because they do have some good tutors, but customer service is key to me. I need professionalism and I need a good example for my daughter. I am active duty military and I have zero tolerance for adults who place blame everywhere but on themselves while taking no time for self-reflection. Santhra is one of the most conscientious people I've ever met. I could immediately tell that her home-based daycare was above average in quality when I saw the clean, organized environment, the happy kids, and when she gave me plenty of paperwork to do to provide information about my son! She showers her children with love and kindness, but also provides structure, discipline, and they learn SO much! The childcare hours are great and the price is, I believe, set by Montgomery County as it is a licensed facility, so it is very reasonable. Santhra attends regular classes to stay up to date on healthy policies and practices. But most importantly, my children are safe and happy when I am away from them... no mom could ask for more. I highly recommend Santhra's Childcare for any family in need of daycare, but also for the socialization with other kids and the small-scale, school-like environment that will help your child grow for years to come!
