I visited this Life Time twice during a recent trip to Overland Park... I worked from their cafe…read moreand worked out a bit as well as took a super quick cold plunge on my first visit. The second time I was in and out pretty quickly for a yoga class and ordered some dinner to go from the cafe. Aside from some construction happening in the parking lot, and the food selection not being as amazing as I was hoping, my experience was super positive. I see they offer tons of classes as well as pickleball and the facility is huge with pretty much any kind of workout equipment you could possibly want. If I lived in the area, I'd likely want to be a member here, but since I don't, I'll settle for being a guest when I visit. Thanks Life Time!

There's big, then there's opulent, catering to the needs of the masses and all individuals…read morein-between. Life Time Fitness is HUGE and I mean they literally have whatever you desire (Fleur-de-Lis for all of you L.A. Confidential lovers). Located in a very strategic and safe location, near a major intersection and the freeway, traffic and parking will never be an issue. But if you have to park far away, isn't that part of the workout!? Anyways I find the facility to be very clean, friendly and safe environment without to many "weirdo's" (take that how you want). First off, the showers are plentiful and well stocked with towels and they have a nice pathway to the indoor pool. I've never had to wait on a shower, typically between 5-7am. As for swimming laps in the winter, one might need to tailer their swim routine as people like me who can swim roughly 100 laps and then there's the elderly swim classes. The point is there are limitations. When spring-fall happens it's a bit easier b/c the outdoor pool offers more lanes. Next, I've never eaten at the café so I can't speak on prices, options or anything. As far as BB courts I workout really early in the morning so I can usually shoot alone but afternoons, you'll be waiting to get on the floor. I've never been to a class for things like aerobics, yoga or anything but I have had a trainer. I honestly think I was bamboozled a bit. In my ignorance I was expecting 3 or 4 sessions a week, a meal plan and several different workout options based on my desired goals. What I got was a body fat measurement via a tape measure and scale along with a musclebound dude to spot me for 3 months. No meal plan, no spreadsheet with workouts that fit me. I mean he fulfilled the spirit of the contract besides not giving me a meal plan other than "eat some berries and tuna", but not what we initially discussed. Now, I will say the greatest thing I learned was foam rolling my muscles. I will admit, I wrestled in high school and college and I've always been fit therefore I know how to workout and diet. So for many others, they may need a little more education so be sure to emphasize that in the contract. As for workout equipment, they have plenty of stair masters, nautilus machines, free weights, treadmills and so forth to accommodate a lot of people. I think out of my 4 years there I only had an issue with someone reading a newspaper on a butterfly machine and I was doing cardio line training so I didn't want my heart rate to slow down while he was reading. Other than that, it's been very good. Oh, I will mention one time I was on the treadmill and a certain Albert Pujols was on the machine next to me. He had his cap on, his gold chain was bigger than my arm, and hit leg was as big as my torso. He saw me catching a glimpse and we had a small conversation and I mentioned I didn't want to bug him. He laughed and said "I approached you, so we're good!" Class act even though I'm a Cleveland fan! In summary, I never used all the amenities offered but there are a lot. I only wanted to reference what I've taken advantage of at Life Time. I was happy with my stay there and encourage anyone who wants to improve their health to drop on by and get a free trial membership. Two thumbs up!

    1. They charge you $10 per class if you don't verbally and manually checkin with the instructor…read more I've been charged $10 for classes that I even attended and was a few minutes late to. You're better off not signing up and just walking in. 2. Brining guests is a complete hassle and you're charged a non refundable fee of $25 if life changes happen and you don't come with a guest that day. On several occasions I was denied guests even tho it was well before the required 24hour application to request them. On multiple occasions my requests were completely ignored and went unreported to even if they were placed 72hours in advance. I was frequently traveling to KC for work and sports only to be hassled when my wife visited from LA stating that I reached my cap for local guest passes (mind you, she lives in California full time and would visit me about once or twice a month for a weekend) 3. Steam room in women's bathroom is utterly disgusting and wasn't cleaned since I was there over a several month period, how'd I know? The dirt streaks and giant clump of hair that just remained of the floor for over 6months 4. Coming from Los Angeles and the Heimat gym where I pay $350/month, I was excited to try this gym... but this gym is clearly nothing but a wanna-be elite gym. The best part of this place is the flavored water in the women's locker room- And maybe the pools in the summer but good luck finding parking 5. Looking to bring up an issue with the staff and escalate it? Don't worry, they're happy to ignore you. Trust me, you're not gonna miss this place. Only thing it's memorable for is being complicated while trying to use its perks and over complicated. The 2 stars are for the water and the equipment. The cleaning staff is super nice tho!

However, it can get busy there and the hot tub chlorine does sting my eyes a bit. There is also a steam and dry sauna there (both men and women in there). Parking is also difficult to find close by with how many people go there now. The women's locker room was nice, but honestly I expected the showers to be nicer and more modern. We stopped by the cafe on the way out. I tried the grilled cheese and tomato soup. The grilled cheese had apples in it and had good flavor. However, the tomato soup just tasted like thick, sour, tomato paste. It was not creamy like typical tomato soup.

For a "Diamond Level" this club is far below what it should be based on the pricing…read more They are proud of the renovations that took place years ago but if it rains, the roof leaks. The AC isn't good enough to keep up with the building so it can get very warm in the gym. Gym-wise, its one of the worst " Big Company" gyms I've ever been to. There is always equipment broken or in progress of being in repair that takes weeks or months. The gym is rarely cleaned, usually only to pass a weekly inspection from the bosses. The cleaning crew does a subpar job of cleaning of which they only clean what is within arms reach of them as much of the equipment gathers dust. Simple things such as tightening belts on the treadmills or replacing lightbulbs takes months if done at all. The swimming pool/ hot tube does not have a cleaning schedule and seemingly only gets cleaned when there is an accident or a piece of equipment goes down for repair. The Dry Sauna has issues of wood rot and lighting that has never been fixed in years. There are also screws that are not flush with the wood so if you have bare skin touch, you get burned. All of this stuff has been repeatedly brought up to the staff but the problem is that they either don't care or are not in a position to fix these things. The current GM is nothing more than a towel boy.

So far the best thing about this place was Mitch, the trainers' manager who met with me to talk…read moreabout my goals, injuries, possible obstacles to my goals, then showed me how to use some equipment to get started. I also like that they stay open fairly late in the evening. Tonight was only my second time here, but so far I can't give it a "yes" or even a "maybe" recommendation, in part because I haven't yet seen anyone going around cleaning or checking anything. Some stalls in the upstairs women's restroom didn't have toilet paper, and it wasn't exactly clean. When I asked the only employee I saw, a young man at the front desk, if anybody goes around regularly cleaning and/or checking the restrooms or anything else, he said "Yeah, when the janitors come in at night." When I told him there was no toilet paper, he said "Well, the janitors will probably take care of that when they come in." The only supplies I saw for members to clean the equipment were in one central location on the very large second floor, far from almost everything on that level. But I never saw anyone wiping anything down before or after they used it. Hopefully, I can upgrade my rating sometime in the future.
