There's big, then there's opulent, catering to the needs of the masses and all individuals in-between. Life Time Fitness is HUGE and I mean they literally have whatever you desire (Fleur-de-Lis for all of you L.A. Confidential lovers). Located in a very strategic and safe location, near a major intersection and the freeway, traffic and parking will never be an issue. But if you have to park far away, isn't that part of the workout!? Anyways I find the facility to be very clean, friendly and safe environment without to many "weirdo's" (take that how you want). First off, the showers are plentiful and well stocked with towels and they have a nice pathway to the indoor pool. I've never had to wait on a shower, typically between 5-7am. As for swimming laps in the winter, one might need to tailer their swim routine as people like me who can swim roughly 100 laps and then there's the elderly swim classes. The point is there are limitations. When spring-fall happens it's a bit easier b/c the outdoor pool offers more lanes. Next, I've never eaten at the café so I can't speak on prices, options or anything. As far as BB courts I workout really early in the morning so I can usually shoot alone but afternoons, you'll be waiting to get on the floor. I've never been to a class for things like aerobics, yoga or anything but I have had a trainer. I honestly think I was bamboozled a bit. In my ignorance I was expecting 3 or 4 sessions a week, a meal plan and several different workout options based on my desired goals. What I got was a body fat measurement via a tape measure and scale along with a musclebound dude to spot me for 3 months. No meal plan, no spreadsheet with workouts that fit me. I mean he fulfilled the spirit of the contract besides not giving me a meal plan other than "eat some berries and tuna", but not what we initially discussed. Now, I will say the greatest thing I learned was foam rolling my muscles. I will admit, I wrestled in high school and college and I've always been fit therefore I know how to workout and diet. So for many others, they may need a little more education so be sure to emphasize that in the contract. As for workout equipment, they have plenty of stair masters, nautilus machines, free weights, treadmills and so forth to accommodate a lot of people. I think out of my 4 years there I only had an issue with someone reading a newspaper on a butterfly machine and I was doing cardio line training so I didn't want my heart rate to slow down while he was reading. Other than that, it's been very good. Oh, I will mention one time I was on the treadmill and a certain Albert Pujols was on the machine next to me. He had his cap on, his gold chain was bigger than my arm, and hit leg was as big as my torso. He saw me catching a glimpse and we had a small conversation and I mentioned I didn't want to bug him. He laughed and said "I approached you, so we're good!" Class act even though I'm a Cleveland fan! In summary, I never used all the amenities offered but there are a lot. I only wanted to reference what I've taken advantage of at Life Time. I was happy with my stay there and encourage anyone who wants to improve their health to drop on by and get a free trial membership. Two thumbs up! read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I've been a member of Life Time since 2010 and absolutely loved it. In the past the cost was worth it to have a clean well kept workout space and locker room. Now it's so dusty and filthy! Also, half of the tv screens are messed up, the pictures is either zoomed out or zoomed in. There aren't enough machines or equipment for the amount of people! Even as a member for 7 years I had to leave as I was expected to begin paying dues as a new member. This gym is no where near 150$ a month gym. Checked out a basketball and they gave me a basketball they must've found in a drain outside an elementary school. I asked if they could at least air it up and they told me they can't because they don't have a pump and laughed. They messed up my membership several times and when I went in to fix it I was told my only option was to start over as new member and pay 150$ a month. Terrible. Initially when I signed up my membership was $99 and later I added an member which is another $59 which dues to $189 after tax. Was with them for 15 years, they change staff and rules on a regular bases. This was logistically convenient for me and my family but after almost leaving 5-7 years ago now I am leaving due to their change in policies for family members and how they hounded my newly adult children. Had been paying for a family of 5 , didn't use many things often my entire family wouldnt come juat myself. But the odd rules for the indoor pool which is it seems was only for lessons, now and loss of a basketball court to make many pickle ball courts which they carved out basket ball and volleyball courts , now leaving just 1 BB court which has birthdays most days of the week The kids they allow in for the runner vape MJ as well the transitional members for the summer and schook breaks have no too little gym etiquette. The management, with some exception, appear disconnected from their work. So, I am out after 15+ years of suboptimal service. I'll take the plung and go elsewhere. read more

Things have improved at this gym! I'm enjoying my time here much more. They have organized the weights, and overall things are looking more tidy and well-kept. I've checked out some new classes (the noon classes are very convenient because it's only five minutes from my work). I really enjoy classes with Melaney, Susan D, Niki M, and Nicole T. Michelle H is also back (a phenomenal instructor that used to work at lifetime). One thing I really like is their dressing rooms that have enough light and can actually be locked. Very convenient. There are always enough cardio machines when it is crowded. Sometimes they have smoothie samples during 'rush' times, like after 5:00 pm. I got spoiled one week because it seemed like there were smoothie samples every night. They have an awesome almond butter smoothie that is just out of this world good. I'm still commuting to the Lenexa location for some of my favorite instructors and classes, but I've appreciated the overall improvements and the noon class times. read more

I used to be a member at this gym for many years before joining the military and moving. My family members have been Lifetime members for 8+ years here. I recently called into inquire about a package/pass so I could workout during the 10 days I'll be home on leave. $240. Wendy, who I spoke to, informed me their 4 day pass price was $120 however their current "special" is 5 for the price of 4. Purchasing this 4/5 day package, two times to account for the 10 days I'll be home, totals $240 before tax. Absurd and appalling. This is not a brand new facility and I can't imagine any gym/fitness center/health club being worth $240 for A THIRD of a month. Really horrible way to treat prior members and the family of those who are still members. Rude staff at this location and not friendly at all. I already have my lifetime pass on apple wallet and the staff is so awkward they just stand at the counter with their little scanners expecting you to pull up the actual lifetime app. The women's bathroom is so disgusting and smell so bad, I could tell the staff hardly clean by how the floor looks. Staff is not proactive at all, my bf forgot his water bottle in the men's locker room, I called at 11am to see if it was in lost and found or something. The guy got back on the phone not even a minute later and said no one returned it. I had to ask if someone can go in the men's locker room to check since my bf is at work until 7pm and it's a 20 minute drive from where I live. they said I had to go back in the club to see if they have it since they can't call me back confirming it's the one that was forgotten. Like why would I want to waste 45 minutes of my time just to find out they don't have it. I would also expect that the staff would remember the faces of people who walk out to leave but go back in not even 3 minutes later to get something. I have been a member for over 12 years and seen multiple GM's. Quietly without anyone noticing, the current GM has made everything better in that gym across the board! The entire staff is friendlier, the child care center is better, the gym is cleaner. Everyone complains when you see Out of Order signs, but who notices when you haven't seen one in over a year?! I do not know the GM, and have no affiliation, but I notice this stuff, and am super impressed with how well run everything is! I have been a member over 8 years. Since the new "uplifts" it has gone down hill. Clientele that are young are rude and never return weights. Now the plates are nonexistent for heavy machines. LifeTime Fitness arbitrarily increased my monthly dues and when I called Customer Service, I was told they had sent the notification and there was nothing else I could do. Fee was increased because they were charging too little for the market. Very interesting considering that the child center is a germ hub and filthy and Squash Courts are in poor shape. Furthermore, they have the highest rates for the services (Or lack there of) they provide. The gym looks like a nice facility from the outside. However, many equipments are always out of order due to maintenance issues. There are no longer an area to do free weights as the entire gym is organized in some 'alpha' CrossFit layout. Not everyone does CrossFit and this is incredibly discriminating to members who prefer a traditional workout. In addition, the pool is not open 24/7 like advertised. It's often closed to the public and there are only certain you are able to do laps. Lastly and this is an extremely frustrating and significant issue. Lifetime makes it impossible for you to cancel as they require you to cancel either in person or by sending a written 30-day notice via certified mail. If you move out of town, you can't cancel by phone or email. And you are still charged monthly dues even after you send the mail if they don't receive it. They hold no accountability to their customers and will find all kinds of ways to keep charging you. Even though it is advertised 'no commitment, cancel whenever you want.' They charge you when you put your account on hold too even though I have been told by an account manager that it would be free. In the end, the amenities lifetime offers does not come close to the hassle they put you through and there are much better gyms to join for the price they charge you. read more

Everything you could ask for in a gym. Open 24 hours. Two class studios complete with their own weights and mats. Lots of class variety with experienced instructors. A separate yoga room and spin room. A pilates studio. Row after row of cardio equipment. More weights than even the most fervent lifter could ask for. You almost never have to wait for equipment, even during busy hours. They have indoor and outdoor pools with slides. The childcare center has separate areas for big kids and little kids to play so you don't have to worry. A giant two story rockwall, two basketball courts, and a row of racquetball courts. Steam rooms and saunas in the immaculate locker rooms and a unisex sauna in the indoor pool area. Not to mention the extra perks: a cafe with delicious food, a salon with hair, skin and massage services, private trainers and special classes. Pretty great value for a fit family. We spend most summer afternoons at the pool, we have date night on Parent's Night Out, we do late night lift sessions and we take some yoga classes a couple times a week. read more

I have enjoyed the Aqua classes at Lifetime for 10 years. But I'm tired of the cold water each morning! Management seems indifferent to having temperatures that are both unhealthy and uncomfortable. 83 to 88 degrees is the proper temperature for this kind of exercise, especially for older people and those suffering from arthritis. But the temperatures are often in the high 70s. So I'm looking elsewhere. Sorry to be going. If you want a comfortable Aqua experience, look elsewhere! read more

I decided to have my son's birthday party held at the pool at Lifetime Fitness in Overland Park. The party had some snafus and I sent them an email after the party with some suggestions, to which they never even bothered responding. I would not recommend holding your child's birthday party here. Here's why: - I was asked by the party coordinator what color of plates I would like and I chose yellow. I am sure she wrote it down somewhere, but I received orange plates on the day of the party which didn't go with the color scheme I had chosen. Also, during the party, the tent and juice weren't brought out until my husband reminded the hostesses about it. - The party table was set up directly in the sun on a 100-degree day, and the tent couldn't shade much of the party area. The other side of the pool was in the shade and 20 degrees cooler and yet nobody suggested moving the table to that side during setup. Furthermore, the party was for little kids age 6 and under and the party table was set on the side furthest away from the kids' shallow swimming area. It would have been nice if the table had been close to the kid side of the pool and also in the shade. - There was conflicting information. My husband asked if there was a refrigerator that we could put some food in to keep it cool until it was time to eat and was told that unfortunately there wasn't. My mother asked if there was a refrigerator to put her dessert in until it was time to eat and it was immediately taken to the fridge. Also, one hostess told us that the children were not allowed on the deeper side of the pool (even with floaties and an adult) unless they could pass a swimming test without floaties. Another guest was told that the kids could be on the deep side with floaties as long as an adult was with them. That would have been nice to know. - The guests were supposed to receive some kind of guest pass for a future visit to Lifetime, but nobody received anything: paper, electronic, or otherwise. - I wish there was a quicker way to carry stuff in. We brought a lot of food and decorations and had to take many trips from our car to inside the lobby, then from the lobby through a locker room and out to the far corner of the pool outside. It would have been nice if the gate outside could have been temporarily opened. - Our son was also supposed to receive a smoothie voucher but we never received one. read more

Overall; i love working out here. However, a few weeks ago a trainer at the gym who wasn't in uniform came up to me while I was squatting with the barbell to try and correct my form. I was annoyed as I have been squatting for 6 years with no injury or problems with my form and have always seen good results; but i went with it as I am always open to professional advice. I did the squats the way he wanted and the next day i woke up and had tweaked my lower back, upper back, and left knee. I am still feeling the consequences of adjusting my squat to his technique. I would appreciate if next time I could just work out in peace lol. I'm sure he meant no harm but i am still feeling messed up and even looked up what he told me to adjust which was all wrong... read more

Had to leave this gym due to location (25 minutes away and just couldn't make the drive anymore) but I loved this gym. Felt like I needed to write a review after I am trying to find a gym closer to my house and finding it very hard to find something like LTF. LTF is WAY cleaner than other gyms and the equipment is kept up to date...its unbelievable what some of these other gyms are offering as far as 20 year old equipment with rust! LTF doesnt do a crazy 2 year contacts and let you do month to month. 4 stars though because when I went at my normal time (4:30/5 AM) it is great! Any other time of the day it is PACKED!!! Loved the gym and everything about it however when time came to cancel my membership they left out information about fees. I wanted to cancel my membership because I was going to be traveling for months and possibly even a year or longer. They told me they could just put my account on hold for about 5 months until I had more information on my situation so I agreed. I later realized they had been charging me a little over $10 a month to hold my account which was never disclosed to me. Had to call to officially cancel my membership again. Wouldn't be surprised to see more fees. No apologies or anything. Pretty much acted like everything was normal in their end with no accountability. I also had my car window smashed in their parking lot around 7pm on a weekend parking in the front row closest to the doors. As you can guess nothing ever came of it. Gym is nice but I wouldn't expect service from the institution. I really want to rate Lifetime Fitness in Overland Park higher than 2 stars, but for being the most expensive gym in the area, I really expect a basic level of customer service after the sale that simply does not exist here. There seems to be a ton of turnover at the General Manager (3-4 in the past couple years) and personal trainers (they come and go like the wind). Any place that has high turnover is an indicator of a poorly managed company. Speaking of personal training, they will try to sell you on this and beware, the price is absolutely outrageous - like house payment money outrageous. Buyer beware: Their membership advisors are clearly paid commission with crazy quotas to meet because they will say and promise almost anything to get new members. They are super friendly and accommodating until you've signed that contact... Then good luck getting any help or anyone to make good on offers or extras that were promised. Promise #1 never honored: I was to receive $200 lifetime bucks upon signing up. This is basically credit that can be used for personal training sessions or anything in their salon/spa. Promise #2 that was a lie: My membership would be good at all Lifetime Fitness locations across the country. This was important to me because I travel a lot. After signing up I find out I got a single club membership. But they so kindly offered to let me pay more to upgrade to a nationwide membership. What a joke! Classic bait & switch. Promise #3 that was a lie: Over 4th of July weekend, I was told if I referred a new member, I would get $100 lifetime bucks and a discount of $10 off my monthly membership dues. I referred two people who signed up that weekend. When I stopped by member services to ask how I would get these offers, I was informed that there's no monthly discount and the lady apologized because she said I wasn't the first person who had said they'd been told that. Remains to be seen if I'll get the ever elusive lifetime bucks. But regardless, the discount is what I really wanted. Instead of zero stars, I will give the location credit for the facilities, classes offered and equipment. Classes: Pros - They offer the biggest variety of classes in the nicest studios in the area. Cons - Classes are usually packed, so plan to arrive early to stake out your spot and space to move. Facilities: Pros - Extremely nice locker rooms and changing areas (much nicer than any 24 Hour Fitness, Prairie Life Fitness, etc). Steam room with eucalyptus, several saunas, two huge indoor whirlpools, indoor and outdoor versions of zero-entry family pools and lap pools, great healthy options in the cafe. read more

My husband and I recently joined this gym and so far we both love it! We got tired of the gym at our apartment and wanted to find a gym that would motivate us and fit all our needs. We definitely found it at Life Time. The facility is very clean and the staff have been so helpful and friendly. I would typically spend about 45 minutes in my apartment gym before wanting to go home but now I'll easily spend 2 hours at the gym. They have basketball, rock climbing, pools, water slides, a sauna, pilates, yoga, and more. They also have a spa, a daycare, and a cafe on site. I love having so many options ! The only reason I took away one star is that it can be very packed during peak hours. Luckily, they are open 24 hrs and have another location that's relatively near and not as crowded. read more

I am in this gym 5-6 days a week, a routine I have been on for the past 4 years since I first joined this gym. What was once a really high-end fitness club has slowly deteriorated over the years. The quality of the staff and the cleanliness of the club continue to be outstanding. The variety and number of pieces of equipment, especially the cardio equipment, are unmatched by any other gym in the KC area. I know, because I have been a member of all the top gyms in KC at one time or the other. However, in the past few years, things have been in a steady decline. First, the members of the clubs were forced to deal with outside vendors pushing their products on club property. I already pay $120 a month to LTF, why do I need to worry about declining offers from strangers who approach me about supplements or bank memberships or tennis lessons? Even more irritating is the influx of new members, many of whom who refuse to re-rack weights and clean up after themselves. I know management is aware of the problem but they refuse to hire more people to re-rack the weights for the members who will not. Some of the gym regulars speak often to each other about this and it is becoming a big, big problem. However, even more problematic is that in April of 2013 there was a reconfiguration of the gym equipment that brought in a ton of new equipment, which is fantastic, but they have replaced or removed a lot of very popular equipment. For example, the gym has eliminated 2 out of the 4 Smith machines which were in CONSTANT use by members. The 2 smith machines were eliminated to make room for a set of Olympic barbells complete with mats and rubberized weights. As I said earlier, I have been a regular at this gym for years and I am one of the few people I ever see performing lifts that would ever make use of these barbells. Obviously, Lifetime Fitness wants to jump on the Crossfit bandwagon, but I fear that fad is already on the way out. All in all, there is less equipment available now, and the equipment that is there is very specialized and will not find many members of this club using it. I love this gym and plan to spend a lot of time here which is why I'm happy with all the amenities they offer - sauna, steam room, cafe, hot yoga & private pilates studios, a rock climbing wall, spin classes and amazing indoor and outdoor pools with aqua-aerobics. And everything is super clean! They have more than enough cardio & weight machines to handle the end of the day rush hours at the gym. If there's a studio that's not in use you can go in there and use all the strength training equipment. Plus their staff is awesome - very friendly and knowledgeable about their equipment and how each person should use it to benefit them. Overall, great staff, clean facilities with tons to offer. Not to mention a high end hair salon open til 9pm on the weekdays. Couldn't ask for anything more! read more

Shady business practices. First off we have been members at the Chicago Bloomingdale location from when they first opened in 2004. We moved to Kansas City and had to pay a ridiculous $129 "joining" fee, which we paid. Then due to work only 6 months later we had to move again and found out that they charge you an additional months worth and you have to give them 39 day notice. Please explain why this was not the case in Chicago but is the case in KC? Also, why were we not told this by our snake oil salesmen at signing? At this point my wife and I paid $1072 for 6 months including their joining and cancelation fees for 2 people.... What a joke. I go to Life Time with my kids and most things I love about it. The pool is nice, but it is difficult to find out when it is open...the hours seem to be inconsistent. The child care facility is nice, but a bit boring for older kids. The younger ones love it. I have had great experience with the personal trainers...loved Joe and Max. Oh lifetime fitness, how I wish I could love you. But I can't. I will spare the reader from a lot of blabbering and summarize lifetime like this--excellent, wonderful equipment and facilities with a cold vibe and rude interactions from staff and patrons. I paid their high fees (that they nickel and dime and climb as you go through the sign up process) because I've never been a member of such amazing facilities. The weight room is awesome. Like any other gym I've been to, I really didnt care about the people and culture. I just put on my headphones and go about my workout. But the interactions I had with staff and gym goers was just so rude and cold that after about 4 months I just hated going there. I joined blush instead and I am much happier now. Ok this 3star rating has to go!! They are fantastic. Great place to work out. Very clean esp during covid. I was able to exercise there during the pandemic because they were great at cleaning, distancing and masks. Ive gone to clubs all my life. This place has been the best.
