My daughter went for camp this summer and she had a wonderful time. We will definitely return next summer. Pros: she rode the horse every day, including one trail ride, she enjoyed fun camp activities everyday like rock wall climbing, gaga ball court, smores around the campfire, she enjoyed the food and said there was dessert every dinner, great camp counselors. Cons: ran out if time to do some of the activities when they visited camp marston, there was a lot of stairs headed to the cabins. The horse show at the end was so cute, but get there early or on time bc they start right away. Overall, she learned a lot at the camp and made new friends. She is looking forward to next summer. Also, there is a great app to send your child emails every day and they also tag you in all your child's photos. read more

What could improve? Hmmm. The food. The counselors. The wranglers. So the whole experience was a disappointment. My granddaughter attended this camp in July. We had a list of camp appropriate attire. On the lake day & water carnival day she was told to wear her tshirt over her bathing suit. Even though we packed according to their guidelines. There was a female camper in literally a "triangle tiny bikini" who did not have to wear a Tshirt over her swim suit. The wranglers made several campers feel uncomfortable. They lost their patience easily. Sometimes they were nice. One of the counselors seemed to "favor" her kids in her cabin. She seemed somewhat discourteous to the other kids. The food was sub-par. One dinner was cut up cheese sticks/warm corn/ raw carrots & cut up "meat stick". A very expensive lesson for us. A positive: the Pegasi (jr high age kids training to be counselors) were thoughtful, kind & fun. Just say no! read more

My daughter (now 14) has been going to this overnight camp for the last 4 summers (1 week/summer). She loves it! She loves riding, learning, and caring for the horses. She has always had a good experience with her counselors. I know she is in great care and have never had any issues with any of the staff. She says the food is fine (she said it was way better than the food at sixth grade camp). It is served family style, but it has never made her sick. On the last day, they invite the parents to see the horse show. It is cool to see the skills they have been working on during the week. I was surprised to see negative reviews, as my daugher, her friends, and cousins have all had great experiences. If you are looking for a camp with lots of swimming, kayaking, and climbing, I would look elsewhere, but I would highly recommend for anyone interested in horse-focused overnight camp. read more

This place is horrible. The food on the first few nights was good but on wenesday... it was teriyaki chicken that gave everyone food poisoning. Most of the counslers there were kind and helpful but Connor the counsler was a different story. He made us do things like cleaning the toliet and he was always in a grumpy modd. NEGLECT ??? BE AWARE WHO YOU LEAVE YOUR CHILDREN WITH. Felicia was cruel and mean. She was disrespectful, she left my child behind during hiking time. My daughter said that Felicia favors certain children which makes other campers feel sad and isolated. Charlie the Pegasus and Ennis the Rangler were the only kind and amazing counselors there. The days mostly consisted of cleaning horse poop and walking in the woods? The kids wake up early in the morning to work (but only the grunt work) The kids were soaked before going on the horses and my daughter came home with a severe rash....................... My daughter was very excited about going to this camp. She has been riding horses for 4 years now. YMCA is collecting $ 1,400.00 per camper for one week of horse camp. There are about 75 campers there. (you do the math) She said the food was horrible, there was nothing to drink besides faucet water and no dessert. Thankfully I did send her with bottles of water, which she said Felicia attempted to take from her. My daughter refused to give up the water bottles. She was fully prepared and had everything recommended on the list. by Thursday she got sick. I was told that several of the campers were experiencing sore throats and headaches. I believe it was because there were children who were instructed to drink from a hose. Several kids putting their mouths on one hose? (COVID) She told me the only thing they were allowed to drink for every meal was faucet water which apparently was yellow (Rust, Magense or something else??. I find it hard to believe that YMCA cannot afford milk or juice for the kids? The activities that are hyped up are only one day. she got to shoot the arrow one time. She could not rock climb because there was a loose stone on the wall. she did get to paddle board on the lake she did like that part. I promise that I will make it my life's mission to deter any other children from going to this camp. SHAME ON YOU YMCA I AM DEFINATELY GOING TO CALL THE DIRECTOR MONDAY MORNING. Felicia gave the campers Cabin 4 & 5 a ""OIUJA BOARD"" to play with?!? This is what upset me the most. My kiddo came home dehydrated and hungry and crying. Half the time is just you cleaning horse poop and walking in the woods. One time while practicing in the arena a horse bumped a kid off and the horse was running around the arena while 11 year olds were on the horses unsure of what to do. This camp is the good ole, work em hard camps. My daughter always enjoy her week here. They have fun themes each week. She was at the Superhero week and had much fun being Wonder Woman. The days before the build is up is fun as she is getting ready to meet new friends. While she always increases her riding skills, she comes home more independent with a better sense of self. Each time I send her here it's like she grows up so much in a week. Sniff Sniff. She feels safe here and says it's a place to discover confidence. She said the week flies by with laughter and amazing memories. I can tell from her energy she is almost high from happiness. Score! People come from France and China she said to this camp every year because they love it so. Go YMCA you're doing something right. The Price is reasonable and worth every penny. From sign up to pick up it is well organized and the counselors are fun, encouraging and high energy. The horse show held on the last day for the parents is adorable. The riders just beam as they show off their hard work and look for their parents in the bleachers while riding their horse. It's one of those moments as a parent my heart holds much gratitude and joy. The kids look like they haven't bathed in a week which makes me giggle. Feels like somehow the filthier the campers are the more fun was had. The food was better this year per my camper, or her palette is also growing up. She discovered salads at camp which I have been working on for years. Wahoo! She was so proud to share every little detail of camp from start to finish. She had her favorite horses and the stubborn ones that challenged her. Sounds like people, right? But really, the horses are just an excuse for all these amazing children to step out of their box and discover a week on their own with out parents. At the end of camp when I am reunited with my daughter, I see that smile and sense a small change in my little person, I know we are in sync: happy, proud and beaming. read more

If you have special needs kids or children of color RUN RUN RUN from this camp!!!!!!!! They discriminate against children who have special needs (ADHD, DMDD) and anyone who has a hard transition to camp or have challenges with trauma and coping skills. My BLACK (adopted) daughter with special needs (ADHD/DMDD/PTSD, with unbelievable trauma) was relentlessly pestered by a child in her cabin (the child spit on her, pulled her hair, farted in her face) My daughter is tall and heavy set (because of medication) and shoved the (white) child away when she couldn't take anymore. The shove was significant, but my daughter really doesn't know her own strength...seriously she's gained 40lbs in 4 months because of a medication we are trying to get her off of. She was asking for space, struggling to adjust and NEEDED some empathy, and care...what did she get KICKED OUT OF CAMP (without a refund of the $1100.00 I worked six months to save as a single mother so that she could go to camp). This is disgusting and criminal in my opinion, but apparently unchecked discrimination and prejudice is part of the YMCA foundation. My child has successfully attended another YMCA camp and attended a music camp this year and after a day of transition (which is always hard for her) was a camp favorite, however, less than 24 hours after being at camp she was KICKED OUT OF CAMP and the Raintree Camp STOLE my money, my daughter is now facing more trauma and grappling with a better understanding of prejudice and discrimination. They added to the trauma my child has already experience PROVING that they are unequipped to handle children who aren't wholly healthy and aren't in the cultural and racial majority....how sad for the diverse, and challenged children the YMCA claims to serve. This is deplorable and screams to the need for their counselors, staff, and administrators to get better training and understanding that not all children are white, privileged, and healthy. By the way, my daughter's therapist called the camp to assess the situation so that she could plan her treatment for my kiddo and found out that the white child who had continuously antagonized my special needs daughter, had absolutely no repercussions at all. I would my daughter just got back from her 6th grade camp and it was the worst experience she got bit by bed bugs cuz her bed was infested and then they had the audacity to make her and the other girls that were camping there clean up after their unsanitary mess.
