I love this place and can't stop coming back! Nicole and Gabby have been so lovely and the horses are the sweetest. I started off by doing an hour trail ride back in January and the scenery was absolutely beautiful. Then I came back a few weeks later for their Cowboy Spirit days where they teach you the basics of horsemanship. It was so much fun and I made new friends who I keep in contact and meet up with. I'm new to riding and the equine world but this ranch has really jumpstarted the hobby for me. They really love and trust their horses and treat them so well which makes all the experiences so comfortable and encouraging. What really stood out to me was how welcoming they are to people who are new to horses and you can tell they genuinely care about you learning and developing the skills to work with and around the horses. I've visited several ranches now and some of them can be very unwelcoming to people with no experience but that wasn't the case here. So happy I found this gem in San Diego, always worth the 40 minute drive from my part of town. read more

I took my wife, daughter and granddaughter for Mother's Day present they had the BEST time! We got there as we were told 1/2 hr before our scheduled ride and went thru the orientation process; Gabby was great to all of us and explained the in and out of riding the horses as we were all new to riding! She paired each of them with a horse that was perfect match for their energy. They did a 1 hour ride and all came back with big smiles, thank you so much for the memorable experience Gabby! I took some time to type this review as I would never want to negatively impact a company but thought I owed it to the community to share our experience. We recently had a very disappointing and concerning experience with this horseback riding company. Unfortunately, the horses provided for our group did not appear to be properly trained or well-managed. Several of the horses were extremely difficult to control, and their behavior raised serious safety concerns from the start. During the ride, two horses became particularly unruly and ended up bucking, throwing two members of our group off onto the ground. This was a frightening and potentially dangerous situation that could have resulted in serious injury. While we understand that working with animals always carries some risk, this level of behavior suggests a lack of adequate training, supervision, or proper matching of horses to riders. After this negative experience the Owner refused to reimburse us. She offered us a credit to come back and take another ride with them. After this experience, the ladies are terrified to get on another horse. I would strongly encourage the company to review their safety protocols, horse training practices, and staff preparedness to ensure a safer experience for future guests. This what I sent to the owner after my other friend send a massage. We were offered some type of credit. There's no way in hell I would ever return here! To top it off... the owner said she replied with an email after several attempts to get her to respond. Nothing! To give you an idea of our experience, I'm being very transparent and showing you what I sent to the owner and her not responding with any type of concern. Good afternoon, My name is Jonnie Thomas, and I was one of the eight riders on the Saturday, April 18th 2:30 PM trail ride with Gabby. I am writing to formally request a full refund for all eight participants due to the unsafe conditions and negligence we experienced during this ride. While we understand that waivers were signed, those waivers do not absolve your business from responsibility when horses are knowingly placed into service in unsafe conditions. Several horses appeared overworked (some reportedly on their third ride of the day), hungry, and agitated--conditions that directly contributed to dangerous and unpredictable behavior. I was assigned the horse Maverick and was explicitly warned about his aggressive tendencies. Despite having prior riding experience, it became immediately clear that this horse was not suitable for a group trail ride. During the ride: * Maverick attempted to buck me off early on. * He later bit Gabby, causing her to bleed. * On the return, he became unresponsive, agitated, and ultimately bucked me off causing myself injury. * He then ran off, spooking the other horses and causing a chain reaction that resulted in two additional riders falling. As a direct result of this incident: * Two riders required medical attention at urgent care. Sprained wrist and CT scan. * Multiple riders experienced significant emotional distress. * The ride became chaotic and unsafe for all participants. It is also concerning that, despite this being described as an "investigation," no one from your organization has contacted the riders involved to obtain firsthand statements. A proper and credible investigation must include the accounts of those directly affected. Given the severity of this incident, we expect: 1 A full refund for all eight riders 2 A prompt and direct response addressing this matter We request a response within 5 business days. If this matter is not resolved promptly, we will be forced to pursue additional steps, including formal complaints and public reviews detailing our experience. We would strongly prefer to resolve this matter professionally and without escalation. Please respond at your earliest convenience. Nothing! The owner is very unprofessional! Be warned! Please go somewhere else. *** I honestly can't believe the responses from this owner and Gabby!!!! Gabby was in the front so did not see the craziness that happened in the back. I have 8 girls saw Gabby get bit, so for her to deny she was bit is wild to me. 2 of our girls went to the hospital and yes, in fact had injuries. I wish I could upload our hospital paperwork. For the record, everyone wore a helmet. We were hesitant because of the nastiness and conditions of the helmet. Maverick should've never been taking out. Plain and simple! At this point I'm fighting for the principle of the outcome. I don't even care about the refund anymore. It's clear that the owner isn't going to give it and just continues to lie to protect her company, including her wrangler Gabby. Very disappointed! But this review is to warn the public! How do I know, I board my horse there, but due to an injury he is not able to go up and down hills. The trails are beautiful. I missed going out so I did a trail ride. Hosted a birthday party here. The kids absolutely loved the experience! The reason they're not getting five stars, is because it could have been more organized. I assume they're cowboys (and cowgirls) first and business owners second, so it's totally understandable though. Examples: 1. We were told to follow the road/driveway and "park in the back". Turns out the property is many acres and the road goes for a mile or two past many horse arenas, so it wasn't clear where "the back" was. Even looking at Google maps beforehand didn't really help. 2. There was a bit more downtime for the kids than was described. Rather than "they'll all go and groom the horses together", it was "one of you come over here and it's your turn to brush". 3. Payment at the end was vague. I wanted to leave a tip for the excellent party hosts/cowgirls, but they told me (after I had to ask) that they'd just bill the credit card on file. Again, it was a great day for the kids, but a little frustrating for the parents. Now that I have a better understanding of what to expect, I would definitely go back! read more

My husband and I had an awesome one hour trail ride with Gabby. She is wonderful and explains everything making sure you are comfortable and ready to ride. She also wastes no time even sending a text the morning of our ride reminding us to arrive early to do forms so we get our full riding time. The Trail is a nice mix of gentle rolling hills, some flat area, easily rideable, wide and scenic. There is a beautiful photo op spot that has an amazing view, you can even see downtown San Diego in the far background. Gabby jumped off her horse and snapped several pictures for us. We enjoyed our ride and time on the trail very much. After our ride we enjoyed giving the horses treats and water and of course brushing them. This was a memorable family experience as it was each of our very first time on a horse. We were out in Ramona for 20th anniversary. From the initial phone call of booking the 1 hour trail ride in poway with very polite person that walked me through what I needed to do online, to getting to know our horses and the knowledgable wranglers that made each of us comfortable. I booked trail ride for 4 and they accomidated our very first experience perfectly. The wranglers ensured each horse matched our personality, riding skill and addressed any safety concerns we had. I found only two trail horse services in San Diego North County. This one was the closest. Rides booking was easy on the website. I've got a courtesy text reminder. Received car parking instructions were outdated. We had to return back and park near the office. Instructions were clear to come at least 30 minutes before the booking time, but last couple did not follow and it caused 15 minutes delay for the whole riding party. Gabby gave clear instructions, properly paired horses with age and experience, so everything went smooth. Gabby also shared the pictures she was taking during the ride. My kids had the first horse ride of their lives on birthday. A lot of excitement! Definitely worth it. read more

I took my 6-year-old son for a pony ride, and it was fantastic! Gabby was kind and welcoming, and did a great job interacting with my son. I wanted my son to learn about horses, so I booked two pony ride time slots and asked if Gabby could teach him about horse care during the extra time. She taught him all the basics of getting the horse out of its stall, grooming, and tack. She was fabulous at teaching and letting him do everything hands-on. Then he went for the pony ride, which was way more fun than I expected. I thought we would walk in a small circle, but instead we toured the property, with Gabby telling us about the various animals and giving riding tips. Also, I thought the price was super reasonable for the experience; more affordable than several other barns I looked at. To clarify, this Yelp review was absolutely not second-hand information. The review was thoughtfully written by my 20 year old granddaughter, an experienced rider. Due to the fact that she was visiting from out of state, she wrote her review on my computer. I was there the day of the trail ride, and witnessed the entire process of matching the riders with the horses. There was a 30- minute delay that afternoon and the process felt disorganized. According to comments made by one of the trainers, which by the way, everyone heard, my granddaughter's horse was hungry. The horse was also obviously uncooperative even before the trail ride began. The horse had to be strongly urged by the trainer, initially in the corral, as well as throughout the trail ride, to walk. My granddaughter was frustrated and most disappointed. Based on so many positive reviews, the San Diego Trail Company has a good reputation. My granddaughter's experience was nowhere close to 5 stars. It was a very disappointing experience. read more

I think the experience of riding horses was 4 stars for us but there were definitely some inconsistencies with the company. I'll say the good stuff first! We really liked our guide Katie. She was fun and informative while we were on the ride. She also took cute photos of us! We also liked the ranch itself. So many beautiful horses and we got to ride such good boys. However, the website is kind of false advertising. The trails are certainly not "breathtaking landscapes". You kind of just go in loops on the property which is just forest. Also, they did not match us with horses based on personality at all. They had two horses ready before we even got there. There was no "perfect pairing" going on. My horse was sadly injured and this was his first ride back in 2 months so I felt awful and guilty the whole time. The guide kept checking on him and taking videos of him literally limping while I'm on his back. I'm an empath and a huge animal lover so this really hurt the experience for me. I think it would've made much more sense for an experienced and familiar rider to have ridden him a few times before I did. I was nervous he was going to be upset or hurt the whole time. My final complaint is that they had us step on the scale before riding and announce our weight to anyone and everyone in the room...awkward and unprofessional. You never know someone's background with weight. I know this seems like a lot but overall we were so happy to be horseback riding and these complaints didn't take away from that. What a wonderful time we had yesterday!! The friendly helpful staff made the Resurvations easy. Please note that if it is raining the horses are not giving rides . The beautiful horses were a fun and entertaining for my 2 girls and I. They were not board taking us on the trails like some horses that are just done with it all. These guys liked going. The trails showed off the great vistas around the area. Beautiful mountains, forest, etc. The 2 guides were fantastic!! One even got off mid ride to fix our stirrups! This was our second visit to Poway Equestrian Center. My grandkids LOVED their trail ride with Gabby - she is very friendly with kids and concerned with their comfort on the ride. The trail ride was an incredible experience. We went in with no prior experience riding horses, but the staff and our trail guide - I think his name was Andy, fantastic guy - were very helpful and patient with teaching us the basics of horseback riding. The trail was beautiful, with panoramic, hilltop views of Poway. Helmets were provided at no extra charge, and we were given carrots to feed the horses while we waited for the next guide to arrive. I cannot express the absolute joy my 3 year old experienced with his first pony ride. Not only was Gabby polite and respectful, but the patience she had with my son was outstanding. Got a trail ride here as a birthday present for my sister. Our guide was Ashley. She used to be a barrel rider. She's pretty and sweet if anyone is looking for a date or any mom's are looking for a girlfriend for their son. You can have fun horseback riding as well as find yourself a nice daughter in law. Anyway, the facility was nice with beautiful horses everywhere. There were also some cows, goats, and chickens. The trail we went on led us around the ranch and stables with various terrain. We went up and down hills. The horses were beautiful, friendly, and easy to control. My horse's name was CD or Seedy. I'm not sure which. He was a grumpy horse that liked to take me off trail. He was happy to have me off his back after the ride, but I feel like we have created a special connection between us.
