Fishing seems very popular at the park, and you can see the trout swimming around. We walked for 8 miles on Easter Sunday, and the walking paths never seemed crowded. My wife and I visited Kerrville, Texas to view the 2024 solar eclipse. The city was within a couple…read moreof miles of the eclipse's path of totality. The City did a fantastic job of organizing, promoting and managing eclipse viewing opportunities around town. Besides hosting an "Eclipse Festival" in its Louise Hays Park, the city's Parks & Recreation Department opened the Kerrville Sports Complex as a parking and viewing location. This was not a free offer. Pre-paid parking, on either the Baseball/Softball side of the Complex or the Soccer side, cost $75 to $100, depending when it was purchased. I was happy to pay the fee, because I'm a planner, and reserved parking let me avoid driving around a strange town with a clock ticking in my head as the eclipse approached. It saved me from competing with other out-of-towners for a viewing spot. And best, it provided us with a secure stopping place, food, drinks, merch, portable toilets and easy access to the interstate, once the event was finished. I'd never heard of Kerrville before I started planning our excursion, and I don't think I'll have reason to visit again, but I'm grateful to the City and its citizens for their hospitality.
