It is a huge post office with lots of windows but there can be people waiting down the street and they still only open a couple of the windows. About a year ago this was a nice post office dont know what has happened to it all the staff never wear there uniforms anymore and half of them look like they have just rolled out of bed and gone straight to work. People have to wait ages because the staff are to busy talking about what they did the night before. There are many post offices in peterlee which offer and quicker and more friendly service.

I had not been here long when, as I walked up to the counter, I was recognised and welcomed in a way that made me instantly feel like I had lived here all my life. This post office is an absolute godsend to the people of south hetton and long may it continue. I moved away from east sussex where sadly every single local post office closed which to most peoples horror only left the main one in the centre of town, which was very inconveient and always full to bursting and often had queus out the door and up the road! Also the long endless queues seem to have dissapeared and whilst I sometimes have to wait a short while the service makes up for this by being very quick and efficient.I always manage to find a free parking space outside although you need to have a disc in your car. There is an external post box and also an external cash machine Situated with the post office are rows of quality cards and wrapping paper. You can buy supplies of envelopes, parcel paper, bubble wrap and the usual posting essentials. This post office should win an award for being having the most helpful and friendly staff. Usual post office opening hours during the week and half day Saturday.

Think Biros and Pritt Stick. Sometimes the staff can seem a bit moody but they do their job and things get sent to the right places. I do look past the moodyness because lets face it, I'm sure you would be pretty miserable if you worked in the Post Office in Bensham of all places. Watch out for the dodgy afternoon closes.

There's never really a queuing problem, even at busy times as there's enough staff to keep the queues flowing nicely. There's a small selection of stationery and packaging products as well as a few gifts and books available to purchase and a stamp machine so you don't need to queue if you only require 1st or 2nd class stamps. There's never really a queuing problem, even at busy times as there's always a large number of staff working which keep the queues flowing nicely. The post office has two entrances one of which is a ramp for wheel chair access. The post office has a small selection of packaging products on sale as well as cards and some stationary products. There is a stamp machine, which means you dont need to queue if you only want stamps. The only problem is the staff can be quite pushy and try to make you buy the various insurances and credit cards which they have on offer.

Altogether there are three counters, though usually only one person serving unless it is a busy day (e.g. Monday). There are often queues because of this, though I have never waited more than 15-minutes to be served. The staff are generally very friendly and helpful, and do not do the annoying cross-selling of their products so much as in some other Post Offfices I have been to. Overall this is a nice little Post Office. I just hope that it is not targeted for closing down as there is not another within the area so it would be a shame for the local people to lose it.
