Dawn is a fantastic instructor! She's very open to adjusting any positions as needed for your body, especially beginners like myself.

Ask the Community - Yoga Loka

Do they have mats available to rent or borrow for and out town person?

I know they have mats for purchase and lots of props available to use, (Blocks, straps, balls, blankets, bolsters). I am pretty sure they have some to borrow, but I've never done it myself.

All of these factors have made me feel incredibly welcome and supported as a new student. However, one teacher in particular has really made certain that I will keep coming back long after my new student special has ended. I have predominantly been a bikram method yogi previously because I consider myself to be choreographically challenged and I always have trouble following along with all the changing movements of yoga classes. I often times get exasperated and anxious, feeling like I simply can't keep up, nor do I know how to adjust myself when I get off track and lost. However, the instructor Kat Ames has really helped me feel hand held and guided with the most incredible patience trying to help me understand how to really drop into every posture she recommends. Her kind corrections and adjustments feel gentle and supportive and I love how she actually SEES me and is paying attention to what I am doing - like my experience as a student in her class truly matters. Thanks to Kat I am learning new ways to use yoga tools like balls and straps and I can thoughtfully notice whether a posture is really softening the part of my body we are targeting because my teacher uses language that is so relatable and specific. Not to mention, I absolutely love it when she breaks out her sound bath bowls. They just make me feel like I am relaxing in another dimension. Thank you Kat and thank you to The Studio for offering such great instructors and so much yoga diversity!

I came to Midtown because it is a little closer to my side of town and the schedule was perfect for my needs. I was able to get my first class free to try it out. I already knew I was impressed after the first class, but just in case I was not hooked I decided to do the new student pack of unlimited yoga classes for the first month for only 45.00. All the staff seem to be very helpful and very nice to talk to. The teachers are very knowledgeable about the practice. Most classes are for about and hour and 15 min and some even offer the essential oil to help relax at the end of practice. If you are new to yoga or looking for an affordable place for your practice you should give Midtown a try.

Let's start off by saying I am no yoga master. I'm like a yoga kindergartner. You know some places it's obvious that everyone in the class has been going for years and the instructor explains what she's doing but she's going so fast that you really can't get into? This is not that! Every class I have tried I have thoroughly enjoyed. I never feel like a bother when I have to ask for clarification and generally, I don't even have to ask because it's either been explained well or the instructor is cruising around correcting posture and whatnot as she teaches. I feel completely comfortable here. The studio itself is very warm and inviting. Both of the rooms have their charm and I love the floors, I think they are cork? This place gives me all of the warm fuzzies.

The instructors are great and I always feel incredible after attending their hot classes. The most challenging for me is hot floor Pilates - it is worth every second and will whip you into shape. I've never been to a class that felt too packed, which is one of my favorite things! Bring a yoga mat, large towel to go over your mat, small towel to wipe the sweat, and lots of water. There are plenty of girls and guys in the classes I have been to, so don't be shy.

My one hesitation: towel use is inconsistently allowed. My first class back was a full 90-minute traditional class (all 26 postures, twice) with a newer instructor - I used a towel briefly, just for grip during bow pose, and it wasn't an issue at all. In my next two classes, at two different locations, more experienced instructors firmly enforced a strict no-towel policy, citing traditional Bikram purity. What's interesting is that this doesn't match the studio's own history. A 5-star review on this page from about three years ago specifically recommends bringing both a large towel for your mat and a small towel to wipe sweat - and the owner replied directly thanking the reviewer and welcoming them to the community. So towels were clearly fine at one point. The studio also modifies the traditional method in other ways today (music in the 60-minute class, dog yoga), so the current strict enforcement feels selectively applied rather than a consistent, longstanding rule. Worth knowing going in if you sweat heavily or need a towel for grip on certain poses - bring a sweatshirt or wristbands as a workaround, or ask before you book.
