I have been a member at Akasha Yoga for about three months now. I have attended maybe 50 classes…read morethere. I have been to two other Yoga schools and have nothing bad to say about any of them. However, Akasha is the best. The classes are a great stress relief and awesome exercise. The instructors are all very willing to help people new to Yoga, like myself. If this is the last Yoga place that I attend, I will be happy. Aside from relocating, I see no need to go anywhere else. My only complaint is that the store next door (Reclaimed...a artsy used furniture store) blasts their music and hammers on things, so it is difficult to totally relax during meditation when the furniture store is open (fortunately only) on weekends. Akasha also does other fun events to raise money for community projects and causes... drum circles, movie nights, Zumba and Tai Chi. It is a righteous place.

While I had always been interested in trying a yoga class and had enjoyed doing yoga occasionally…read moreat home with a video, I'd always been a little intimidated by fears I'd make a fool out of myself in front of a bunch of experienced yogis. But a friend of mine who belongs to Akasha bugged me to give it a try and offered to take me and my partner as guests on her membership. After the first class, we were hooked. My partner and I went back the very next day and signed up for monthly memberships and began going to classes several times a week. That was last Fall. There are several reasons I love Akasha Yoga. Aside from the warm and peaceful atmosphere, the instructors are all wonderful. Jennifer (the owner) is a fantastic instructor, has great energy, and a great sense of humor. In the months I was a member, I had the opportunity to take classes with all of the instructors at some point, and they are all fantastic in different ways, but they all strive to make everyone feel comfortable and welcome whether you are a complete beginner (like I was) or an experienced yogi. Akasha does a community class once a month on Saturdays that is free to all. Additionally, they raise money for various community causes each month and have different events and special classes planned throughout each month that add to the sense of community at Akasha. My partner and I recently had to move out of the area, and while Crystal Lake is a great suburb that we will miss, what makes us most sad about the move is that we can no longer take classes at Akasha. I would highly recommend this place for anyone interested in giving yoga a try, or for any yoga pros looking for a great place to practice.

I had been wanting to try a Barre class for some time, but due to being extremely intimidated by…read morethe stock photos of the extremely fit women in generic Barre classes, I always found an excuse not to go. After staring at my veggie food baby that had been growing over the winter, I finally decided that it was time to take a chance and face my fears. I scoped out Yelp and came across Orinoco. They have the best introductory prices in the area (first class) and I could actually afford their single class fees ($16/class) and multiple class packages without having to sell a kidney ($78/6 Barre classes). They have a variety of classes from yoga and mat Pilates, to Tai Chi, to my new favorite, barre. I also love that the class times actually work with my schedule, as most gyms only seem to have schedules that fit a stay-at-home mom's (or dad's) or student's daily schedule. I dragged one of my friends to my first 10:05 Saturday morning Barre class (because who wants to be scared and tortured alone?!) Ana, the owner, greeted us as soon as we entered the doors and was very friendly and personable (she even remembered me the next Saturday when I brought my sister in with me). She went through their schedule, pricing, and special events that were coming up, but didn't pressure either of us to signup for anything which is UNHEARD of anymore. Maria is an amazing instructor and teaches the Saturday morning classes I have been attending. She truly pushes you to do your best, but makes sure you do not over-exert yourself at the same time. She's constantly adjusting posture and techniques of each individual student so that you truly get the most out of your workout. And let me add that this is probably one of the cleanest gyms/studios I have been to in the surrounding area! Love it! I'm so glad that I found this place and cannot wait to start adding more classes to my workout schedule! I highly recommend Orinoco for anyone who is looking for a new gym that features group classes.

Also, there are no hidden fees and gimmicks like other fitness facilities. Love this place! I started going for Zumba but have added Barre to my workouts. The place is welcoming, the instructors are very friendly and helpful! Definitely 5+++ stars.

Joan is very skilled, compassionate and caring. I have tried several acupuncture places in town…read more The best value for your money is at the milwaukee community acupuncture (only $15/session). They are actually quite nice people and they do a good job but they could not cure my specific problem. I thought, if I tried an expensive acupuncturist, I would get better results. I tried another acupuncturist in Thiensville, who was expensive about $100/session. She was no different from Milwaukee community acupuncturists (in terms of placement of needles etc). Then I came across Joan's East meets west therapeutics. The way Joan does acupuncture, is entirely different and far superior! She is very specific in trying to pin pint the exact and best locations for putting the needle in. She puts each needle in very carefully and pushes it slowly to find the "Xi" spot; The others, just rapidly put the needles in but you can tell that Joan is trying to find the right spots. Also, while pulling out, Joan will twirl the needle a bit.. which apparently helps with healing. Joan also checks your over all body structure. She has a Phd from boston university. Unfortunately, Joan was not able to resolve my issue (which was a tibio fibular joint pain) but still, I would highly recommend Joan. Even after I stopped going to see her, she still sent me text message about which exercise to use. She is very caring and is well worth the expense of $150/hr. She is a very well educated healer - not just someone who went to a week long course in acupuncture!

She has numerous skills that she applies to aid in the healing process and is very methodical in her unique approach. She brought all her experience, wisdom, and knowledge to my specific needs with great results! I'm making excellent progress and I think I might be her toughest case to date! I'm looking toward the future with new hope and to one day, not having to need her services because that will mean that I'm better. East Meets West Therapeutics is the BEST possible care you can receive. I highly recommend her to every single one of you. Thank you so much, Doctor Joan!!
