The teachers at Yoga Shala are excellent. Because they are so experienced, they can help you find alternate poses if you can't quite get the target pose. They're very encouraging and will physically help you reach the target pose if you want. I always leave feeling calm and stronger. read more

It's not a perfect experience for a first-time practitioner, but it was a pretty good first impression. I took 1 out of 10 away for what I perceived as a semi lack of personal warmth. Maybe it's the type of yoga, not the shala itself, so weigh my comments with that in mind. Yoga Shala isn't your typical Vinyasa, flow style, easy breezy yoga class offered at most gyms. This is a serious yoga studio with a room that can fit roughly 10 people working with hands on instructors that really help you sit further into poses than you ever thought possible. I've done just one class but I am looking forward to going back and doing some more intense training. This class (for beginners) was NOT for the weak, I am sore and maintain that I'm a fairly healthy person.. If you are serious about yoga and you are looking for hands on correction for poses, this is the place to go. If you have never taken a yoga class before, this may not be the best place to start as they move very quickly, but after one class, I can already tell this place will whip you into shape fairly quickly. read more

It was my first time here enrolled in the community course and I was impressed with the experience I had. Our teacher was Marisa and we were her very first class. She doesn't make you feel intimidated and she's great at adjustments. The rooms are a bit small compared to other yoga places I've been to but it was weirdly comforting being in a small space practicing yoga. You really feel the energy in there. In my rebirth.. because we go through so many... atleast I have. Yoga Shala has now become three shala's in town that I have utter respect for. Many yogi's were in shock that I could even like this studio given Ashtangi's are known as being ego driven. I a fool and not a big deal attitude.. actually known for easily entertained. In doing my teacher training here in Vinyasa, I have been able to have the opportunity to get to know people. That ego that was misunderstood was actually a more disciplined practice than mine, that when it comes to the practice they are just so much more serious students. Its not that I am not a serious student, its just they are really serious. Though this doesn't make them better and me less. Its just they are serious. I practiced at Two Hearts then grew to AC Power Yoga with Amanda and now my journey has taken me to Rossella with Yoga Shala. This is what Yoga has become for me, teachers teaching me in different areas of my practice. If you want to be serious in your practice This is the place for you. I will tell you to love Rossella but please don't take advanced classes when we know that you hardly do yoga and don't even know where to begin. There is no shame in beginners class and work your way to the advanced classes. For those looking to be a yoga instructor I highly recommend learning from her. I'm a beginner to yoga and decided to try Yoga Shala.Took my first class with Instructor Ingrid Crawley. One thing I loved about her class was the confirmation/physical correcting I recieved on my form. Doing recreational yoga at my gym off and on, I never had the opportunity to work on my breathing, focus, or even know what clarity was. Last night I took Carl Lobitz's class which was more advanced but completely inspired me to want to know what being is all about. Like Ingrid, Carl instructs, corrects, and yoga besides you. Both instructors are great, two different styles ard both have a real passion for yoga; and I truly appreciate the vibrations of the room. I can't wait till I see and feel it. I'm already improving in my yoga and will continue to attend Yoga Shala. Great people, comes highly recommended! read more

Ana is encouraging, Charles can read your mood and Lisa is strong and compassionate. They give terrific adjustments and support; and these are authentic, focused, groovy people. This is the review for Thursday 9am Anusara Inspired Vinyasa with Tia. A Star for studio which is very nice and clean. A Star for manager who is very responsive. No Star for the heart of the business, the yoga instructor. The instructor talked a lot with the clients about their private life during the class and the conversation was going on and on till the class was done. All my group including myself had a hard time to focus on practicing. They talked about restaurants, traveling, crashing on guys, where to eat for happy hour etc. This is not a Salon. It's the yoga studio. I expect professional manner from $15 drop in price. My girl said the music was not peaceful. At least instructor remember to change to yoga peaceful song almost at the corpse pose. read more

I dropped in for 2 classes (Ashtanga Led Primary and Ashtanga Improv) at Yoga Shala while visting family in San Antonio. The teachers were fantastic - professional and extremely knowledgeable. Classes were challenging and enjoyable. Its obvious that the studio has created a tight-knit, committed yoga community. As far as I could tell, its the only studio that teaches Ashtanga in SA. I will definitely take more classes there when I come back to town. read more

Yoga Shala is one of my favorite places to be in San Antonio. The teachers are incredible--so knowledgable & so friendly. Don't be intimidated if you're a beginner...they are SO welcoming. I had been doing physical therapy on my back for months after an accident with little results, but, after a few classes at Yoga Shala, my back is in line with no pain. I've been a regular at Yoga Shala for over 1 1/2 years and love it! The instructors are dedicated yogi's and wonderful. I focus on the Ashtanga morning classes (led primary series, improv & mysore) as well as the vinyasa classes and haven't been disappointed. I learn something new almost every time I'm there. Had never used this studio before, but made arrangements to meet some out of town friends at this studio based on reviews. The inside was tastefully decorated and had a lovely water feature. There was a nice, clean bathroom for changing and shelves for shoes and such. The classroom was very cramped. There were 8 people plus the instructor and it was very difficult not to hit one another. The room was right by the front door which was a bit distracting as people filtered in and out of the studio since our door was left open until the cool down at the end. The instructor and "regulars" spent the entire class chit-chatting about their personal lives which was a bit off putting. I thought the poses were fine for the level of the class. Music was modern rock rather than soothing music which can turn some people off. I didn't mind it up until savasana, then it became distracting. Luckily, the instructor eventually turned it down. read more
