Two years in a row I have had my information to them in June (yes, we needed extensions) but my tax returns haven't been done until the last minute and both now seem to have been complete and total disasters. I have all my correspondence logged and Tom began to accuse me of not answering phone calls or communicating with them. Not true. I mentioned that I had logs of all my correspondence begging for the return to be completed in a timely fashion and not waiting until literally minutes before it was due to be filed, thus not providing me any time to review it. I have all my correspondence requesting over and over to find out what was missing so they could complete the return. Never got a response. Plus, with what they completed, and without any explanation, my tax rate looks to be around 60%. Something has to be wrong. When I phoned to try to figure it out he called me a liar, told me what a horrible customer I was and that he had sent letters that I had never received. It was really creepy. Prior to having them as my accountants I had been working with the same accountant for over 40 years! He was looking to retire so I made the change. Really a bad move. Be careful here, please and consider another firm. I should have looked at the reviews on Yelp and not just Google. Not sure how they managed to get those Google reviews as it sure isn't what I am seeing here which is much more representative. Run, don't walk.

Gill Tax Group (GTG) took me in last minute, thoroughly reviewed my returns after I had a hiccup with TurboTax and discovered that the TurboTax software did not flag the necessity to file in another state.* Had GTG not checked this and had I relied on TurboTax, I would have been subject to a review and possible full audit by not only the California Franchise Tax Board, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, but also the Internal Revenue Service. GTG cares and is very thorough. If they make a commitment to help, they have proven that be true. Trying to get through to TurboTax customer service was a nightmare and nobody understands what I'm asking or trying to do, notwithstanding the technical gliches they have. GTG understood came through and took over immediately and filed expeditiously--and I am very thankful. I cannot recommend this wonderful firm enough to others. * Had I opted for the "audit free protection" offered by TurboTax, it would likely have been denied because it only protects you in the State you file. TurboTax did not recognize that I needed to file a return in another state and therefore I would have l been denied the protection had I went that route if I were to be reviewed and audited. WTG GTG! I recently moved and needed to find a CPA I could work with and build a relationship with years to come. I hired Irene Mack CPA based on the positive Google and Yelp reviews and my initial contact with her..... which was great!!! At the very beginning of the year, I contacted her office and spoke with Irene over the phone at great length before hiring her. She came across as knowledgeable, straightforward, and easy to speak and work with, so I decided to make an in-person appointment and retain her for tax preparation services. Unfortunately, my experience did not match the positive reviews. I provided all necessary documents to ensure my taxes could be filed on time. In fact, her office had everything they needed in mid February uploaded into their online portal to complete the tax return. Despite having ample time, she filed an extension without notifying me or getting my approval first -- a serious breach of trust. She failed to communicate all together after our 1st in person visit and a retainer was paid. NO return emails or return phone calls despite my many attempts to find out what was going on. Even more concerning, she failed to submit both my IRS and state payments, which she had agreed to handle for the deadline. This led to penalties & interest fee's that could have been completely avoided with proper follow-through and communication. I hired her expecting professional, timely service and instead I received poor communication and missed deadlines. I would not recommend her to anyone who values accountability and clear follow-up on critical tax matters. This has been one of the most frustrating and disappointing professional experiences I've had period.

I did my 2024 report but wanted to hire an accountant to review and file yearly for me. I searched on ND and as usual, Neighbors, quite generously, recommended several. I decided to go with Irene Mack, CPA. I called her office for an appointment and she answered the phone, explained regulations, helped me with questions and so on, went above and beyond. I was impressed and hired her. That was in March. She told me to file an extension as she was unable to take on another client before the deadlines. She walked me through the process with both Federal and State and paid what I believed I owed. Did not hear from her so contacted her in May. She gave me an appointment at her office. Went over the report in details and she said she had all she needed and would invoice me and file it. That was the last I saw or heard from her. Calls are no longer answered, and her assistant asked me to not call anymore as "she would call when things change." Again total silence. I'm now in the process of hiring someone else. Just a heads up should someone be looking for an accountant. Update: To update, and allow the benefit of the doubt. Irene Mack called me the day after this post. According to Ms Mack, "they dropped the ball" and for that she apologized profusely. She also said there had been problems with her staff, including miscommunication but it has been now corrected. She asked about my tax return. I told her I called IRS and a representative answered my questions and notated what happened so for this year, I have no need for additional help. I explained I would like to give her another chance, as this past conduct appears to be truly an oddity especially that I have paid a hefty retainer, but can't allow a repetition of this problem. So maybe next year. I'm adding this update, for fairness sake.
