Recently, we stopped by to get registered for the summer reading program (can also be done online) and to get prizes, and got to see this library again. Basically, it's not changed at all. It's still in pretty good shape, lots of books throughout, a nice and bright children's section, and extensive sections for adults and teens too. The inside of the library is brightly lit and quite organized. There were not a lot of books on sale at the Friends of the Library book sales section, especially children's books were quite limited, but there's a ton of books to borrow! The library assistant was helpful in guiding us through redeeming our summer reading prizes which were 1 book each for my kids for registering and logging books they've been reading all summer, and I got a tote. Overall, this is still a pretty good library although it's not very big and architecturally, it's pretty basic. It also serves as the Franklin high and Toby Johnson MS library during the school year, but right now during the summer, it's just a regular public library.

I don't spend much time in the library. It's more of a quick book drop off/return or picking up…read morebooks I have already requested online. The library has many many resources. You also get free access to consumer reports and New York Times. You can also download the Libby app and link your library card to borrow audio and e-books. I often go online and request various books or DVDs. Only downside is for some reason, I don't get email notifications when my requested items are ready for pick up despite signing up and picking that as my preferred communication method. For some reason I only get emails telling me my requested items are now cancelled and can no longer be picked up because the pick up time frame is over/passed, which is frustrating since I never got the original email telling me items are ready for pickup. The email notifications have previously worked fine over the past 10+ years I've been a library card holder. I had to switch to text notifications, which I am not a fan of because it does not tell you what item is ready for pickup, nor the name or title, whereas the emails notifications told you all that information and more. The text notification gives you a link to click for more details but with the number of scams going on, I don't click any links.

We spent quite some time finding the appropriate age Disney books for her. She really wanted Disney princess books and luckily we were able to find a couple of Frozen books, one Moana, and a few others Disney related. I love how we can get put on a waitlist if there are no books available there. Or they let you know on their online catalog where the book you're looking for is located, should you wish to drive there. The timeframe to borrow books are 3 weeks which I think is plenty! Despite not having come here for over 7+ years, the library is in great condition! Everything looks very organized, clean, and new. There are so many resources available as well, for all ages! Given the lapse in time my old library card needed to be renewed. Hamid assisted us and was wonderful to me and my daughter. He made the process extremely easy and quick. He also let her choose a free 3D printed figure from their bin! Highly recommend.

Adj: Friendly and Courteous Staff, plus Fun and Comprehensive…read more This library is not far from me, but I guess I've taken it for granted and not thought about it much and so I've not written about it? In any case, it continues to be a good one that we frequent often. It looks pretty good on the outside and has been kept up inside all these years. Tucked into the Pocket-Greenhaven neighborhood off of Gloria Dr and pretty close to Rush River Dr, Robbie Waters Library is a much loved and highly utilized resource in the community. My kids have been coming here for a few years now, except when Covid closed it, but even then we did order books for pick-up from here too. They've got a little bit of everything for everyone here. The kids section is colorful and there's a dome/"tower" like space where it's all painted/drawn up to look like some kind of fairytale story and kids LOVE to hang out there and read books. It could get a bit rowdy there, but it's tucked way into one corner of the library, as far away from the grown up area as possible. There are also kids' computers preloaded w/educational software (no internet access) for the littles and then there are a few computers you have to log into w/your account that can get on the internet. The children section is pretty big with a lot of books. They also have a good amount of DVDs and CDs for kids, those are good for car trips and road trips. Whatever books you can't find here, that are available at another branch can be ordered and then delivered here. TONS of people use that service and I've started doing that more, it's very convenient. There's also a seed library here, although varieties are limited. A new discovery to me is a (super) quiet reading room, no cell phones allowed (turn off or silent), very nice and natural light streams in here from a big picture window. Besides the bookstacks for grown ups, there's a lounging/comfy seating area, a cart with board games to borrow while you're there (not check out) and the Friends of the Library book sale is right outside of the official entrance of the library and they have a lot of really good books for cheap, guess they get good donations. Finally, I've learned that parking towards the back of the library can be useful sometimes when the attached high school is getting out and it's pandemonium. But limited spaces for the public there as most of it is for staff. There's even a permanent heavy-duty bike tire pump available for anyone to use, how cool is that. Overall, Robbie Waters Library continues to be a great asset to this community and is a much enjoyed library with good staff (I particularly like Barbara who is very friendly and the librarian Nathan holds fun story hours for kids b/c he plays the guitar), ample resources, and easy access.

Not sure, but that definitely took away from the 5-star experience.

It's very modern compared to the building surrounding it. We loved the exhibits on the first and 2nd floors. There is a Union Pacific exhibit and Juneteenth exhibit on the first floor. On the 2nd floor there is an exhibit surrounding the Constitution. Both were very educational. The first floor exhibit was all about California a beautiful advertisement for California Beaches, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, and Huntington Lake. They had my favorite California advertisement. The bear holding a map of California. Parking is all metered street parking and there isn't a lot of it. Fee- There is no fee, it's free and open to the public. I love the exhibits on the first and second floors. Hours. Closed Mondays and Sundays. Tuesday through Saturday they are open from 10am -6pm. A perfect lunch break stop. They are part of 28 locations and they also support Libby which gives you free ebooks, music, and videos. I've used Libby many times and love it. They have both ebooks and audio books. you You can also check out Museum passes and California State Park Passes. I checked out the California State Park Pass and got into a state park for free. The passes are limited and there isn't usually a long wait to get therm. Though they also have a pass that you can't reserve, you just have to ask at the right time and it may be available. That's how we lucked out and got ours.

Events, classes, and more can be found here for free as well. Not into books? You can check out Blu-ray or DVD movies as well! The kids side of the library can be loud (it's on the left as you walk in). If you want quiet you should head off to the right. You don't need to wander far to find a quiet desk or table. The only thing I wish our Library had more of was parking. During events or busy days the parking lot fills up very quickly and you can find yourself circling for a while. The street parking is limited as well. I'd definitely walk, but we live to far away.

This library is open everyday, so that's nice b/c none of the Sac Public Libraries is open on Sundays or Mondays. I can't believe this one is open even on Sundays, great for kids to hang out on a lazy Sunday afternoon. As I entered, there's the kids' area on the left side, it's like a separate wing altogether and it's nice and colorful in there. It's really big too, so kids must really enjoy that space and I saw quite a few kids there on a late weekday afternoon, maybe cuz it's summer time. Lots of kids books on shorter shelves and several kids' computers w/preloaded software for them. Back towards the entrance of the library you'll find the info/front desk where the librarians and assistants are available to help you find books etc. Then there's shelves of books and towards the back of the library, but still in the middle as you look in, there's a friends of the library book sale and an area where you can eat and there are a couple of vending machines so you can buy a snack and drink. There's even a charging stand with multiple cords for different phones if you need to recharge your phone. The right side of the library is where teens and adults sections are and there's a dedicated teens room, and a couple of study rooms as well as a huge and really nice study room named after some lady who's a local person of importance and the room is filled with old books and is pretty amazing to study in although it was kind of hot and stuffy in there so I just peeked in and didn't stay. Finally, towards the far right side of the library are all the circulating movie and TV DVDs and there were a ton compared to other libraries I've seen as well as CDs which interesting, is still popular here. And lots of seating and reading loungers, but mostly desk and chairs for studying. All in all this is a pretty nice and big library, older, but well-kept.

Parking can be tough, but there is overflow parking. I remember going to this branch's original location on Elk Grove Blvd where Pinot's Palette/Hobby Quest are now when I was in high school. This 2-story library is small but I've never had a bad experience here. Downstairs is the children's books/movie selection, and upstairs are teens/adults, including foreign, fiction, nonfiction, and new items. I've found a few cool "Lucky Day" items such as new release movies on DVD, or in-demand popular book series such as Fourth Wing/Iron Flame, and It Starts With Us (sequel to It Ends With Us). If the branch doesn't carry your desired item on shelf, you can always request a hold from another library within Sac Lib system, or outside (via LINK+) and have it transited to be picked up and checked out at whichever branch. I've gotten materials this way from the Bay Area, and even Southern California (such as CD soundtracks for musicals Broadway Cast recordings, or obscure foreign films or books). The Holds pickup shelf is on the first floor to the left of the entrance, alphabetized by last name. You can also use your library card to access digital books (Overdrive or Hoopla) via Libby. Your card also has other perks such as museum discount passes or state park passes. If you need to make photocopies, they have a black and white copier which accepts coins. Logging onto the computers to browse is free for a certain time limit, but to print does also cost money per page. Not sure about magazines, however, they do have free copies of local newspapers too (Elk Grove Citizen and Galt Herald). They have self checkouts (magnetic mats) and barcode scanners, but if you need assistance there is a helpdesk on each floor. Elevators and stairs, restrooms clean. Chairs for reading, and more private conference/study rooms too can be reserved in advance. Self-return touchscreen conveyor outside, and an old-fashioned drop box for items that won't scan properly, otherwise can take inside to return in person at the desk. During the pandemic they also had free Covid test kits at this location. They don't have a "Library of Things" at this branch, but during Covid they also loaned out Chromebooks and Wi-Fi Hotspots. If you are getting a brand new library card or renewing, they also carry a few card "styles" to choose from -- I have a "Light The Beam" Sacramento Kings purple card. They do also have special events such as family story time (also bilingual), teen space, senior social, STEAM activities, tween comics group, etc.

Adj: remodeled and updated library…read more A wonderful and festive celebration of MLK Jr library's Grand reopening took place recently. The library was closed the under renovation for over a year, but it opened again a couple of weeks ago and there was a celebration today with a ribbon cutting ceremony, dance performance by a local drum and dance group, booths from multiple local community groups to include City of Sac Park & Rec, and the Friends of the Public library. The remodel itself is really nice, I was quite impressed! The color scheme inside is very soothing and I see a calm palette throughout. They integrated the original/existing book shelves very well too, so they didn't go to waste and are still being put to good use. The lighting and fixtures are all pretty modern and artistic style, and the skylights have been kept and cleaned up and painted so they're still letting in natural light and that's a really nice feature. Overall, the remodel looked very successful and the grand reopening was a great time of celebrating as a community of a wonderful library that's a great resource and a meeting place to bring people together.

It looks like the HVAC system is new too as I walked past it to enter the library. The outside of the library looks about the same, the entrance sign and window signs were renewed with brand new Sac Library logos. Today was the "soft opening" of the library. Quite a few people came to check it out and a good number of families with children. The Good: - much better use of space, more efficient use - nice and bright now instead of dark and dim - new Maker space is pretty cool - brand new bathrooms, a bit different with the shared sinks and all gender stalls, but nicely laid out, hopefully they'll stay clean The Ok: - teen area is small and is just basically a video game console with chairs and a big screen TV, no real space for reading and studying The not so good: - books and DVDs are intermingled - seems the books are disorganized and not logically grouped, I had a hard time finding certain books All in all, a really nice update and I'd say the remodel was a success, it's a much more comfortable and cool library environment to hang out and enjoy now.
