The lady working the truck kindly cut the 1 egg roll in half for us, and we ordered a second steamed manapua (porkbun) so we each could have one. We enjoyed all the food, and struck the gong on the exterior of the truck afterwards to signal our enjoyment! Also nearby is an unbelievably large banyan tree (pictured), a congregation of chickens, and a little bit of history: the Old Sugar Mill, and memorial to those who worked the mill. Comes on a paper plate covered with aluminum foil. The 2 pork shumai came with maximum meat, under a tightly wrapped won ton skin, but not too much flavor until you put soy sauce on it. The char-siu pork manapua was oversized with dough, but had a decent pork filling taste, definitely on the sweet side. The 2 shanghai lumpia was almost too thin to see the meat inside, and had too much outer covering for the amount of meat inside. With incredibly affordable prices and an amazing quantity of food for your buck, we walked away from our meal amazed. With decent food and great character, Dim N Den Sum is a neat local spot. I was somewhat underwhelmed by the food, but I know this had a lot to do with what I ordered. I chose the soft shell crab sandwich, which came deep-fried with tartar sauce and your standard lettuce, tomato, and bun. While the crab was well-fried, it tasted much fishier than I would have liked and felt quite greasy. The somen salad came as a sizable box of wheat noodles, chopped lettuce, carrots, and a small container of sesame-soy sauce. The idea is to drizzle the sauce over it and mix it all together (along with some generous squirts of Sriracha sauce, if you dare). It was a refreshing complement to my sandwich, but I felt it was somewhat steeply priced at $8. On a happy note, the sandwich came with a serving of spicy fries that were fantastic. The woman at the window was as friendly as can be and readily accepted the Yelp check-in deal for a free soft drink (water, canned fruit juice, aloe drink, or cold green tea). While waiting to order, I met another couple that felt equally disappointed because they'd tried the truck's tempura sushi roll last time and came back to have it again, only to find that it wasn't available. Dim 'N' Den Sum catered our private post-wedding thank you beach event and they were amazing, start to finish. The food was exceptional: fresh, beautifully presented, and, most importantly, delicious! Our guests said it was the best poke they'd had on the island (and by this time, our guests had had at least two other kinds at our other previous events). My brother-in-law, a poke aficionado, got poke every single day of his eight-day stay and he said Dim 'N' Dem Sum was the best. He also said the poke on the island compared to mainland is far superior. They were very professional, responsive, and flexible during the initial stages when we were getting quotes. We reached out to MANY MANY food trucks and poke places to try to get catering, and communication with most was unfortunately unprofessional, disorganized, or non-existent. Dim 'N' Dem Sum offered exactly what we wanted. We wanted our guests to be able to have an authentic Hawaiian Food Truck experience and they came through 100%. Until Dim 'N' Dem Sum, it seemed like maybe we could get people to deliver giant platters of poke, OR, simply prepare it and we'd have to transport it and present it ourselves. Those who could deliver pretty much could not offer staffing to serve. And maybe a couple others who could potentially offer the food truck experience said they'd be open to the public as well and/or the cost would have been exorbitant. Dim 'N' Dem Sum customized a simple menu to be what we envisioned but better (poke and musubi with choice of Hawaiian macaroni salad side), they helped with the permit process, and when we were unable to schedule a dessert vendor (due to permit limitations), they suggested another Hawaiian sweet treat, did the research and communication on their own and effectively helped me out by removing that as another worry and task on my already overflowing bride plate, and provided those for us even though it wasn't something they usually offer. Before they left, they made sure we were satisfied, helped tidy up, and left us with extra food that hadn't been eaten. When I had a moment to really connect with them, they offered some tips about local beaches and eateries and I really appreciated that. Yoshi and Lynell with Dim 'N' Dem Sum are among the top vendors we worked with and that's due to their responsiveness, professionalism, service, pleasantness and kindness.
