Just had a root canal done today. First time, and I was feeling very anxious. Dr and nurse were both really good at their jobs. The front staff as well--- considerate and friendly. The nurse was so exceptional at explaining everything to me and showing me the various tools they use ahead of time. The doctor is the first dentist who has never hurt me with a needle- I barely felt anything if at all. I think a bee sting would feel worse, or a splinter. I have had paper cuts hurt worse. That stunned me. The procedure on a back molar was efficient and very systematic, for what it was-- I really did not need to worry as much as I did; it is just like a filling. The Dr was also good about letting me know what he was about to do, and what step of the process he was in. I appreciated seeing the work on the x ray afterwards and hearing that, even with a crack in my back lower molar, the process turned out perfectly. I would return if I ever needed another root canal, they are no big deal. You can tell you are in competent hands. Thank you York Endodontics. read more

My first thought when entering York endodontics in West York for my root canal was, you're not fooling anyone with this modern motif and these soothing brown hardwood floors. Do they think I'm dumb with their free water and calming aesthetic? I knew the truth. I was about to be mauled by shiny and carefully sterilized instruments of death. Why sterilize tools meant to cause such grotesque disfiguration? my anxiety caused my eyelids to sweat. The soft professional voice of the receptionist on the phone mocked me. It said, "I am the one who send you to the chair. The endodontist's fingers will slip and he'll impale your few remaining brain cells with the hatchet he uses to scrape the rot from your sad backstabbing little tooth" Tooth, you have failed me. You have shamed me. The vision of Dr. Isett that my mind created from the waiting room was a red leather skinned demon with a laugh like Cruella Deville, blood splatter decorating a sweat stained frock. I finally made it to the chair, wishing I had indulged in a last meal. The fear of the pain I was about to endure had turned me into a Parkinson's patient sipping a triple espresso. Stop it Mandi, your 44. I silently wonder if I could have paid extra to have some morphine or an elephant tranquilizer. But it's too late. Dr. Isett walks in. Very odd. He looks like a normal dude. I bet if I pulled off his 'normal guy mask' there's a snarling rabid hyena under there, thirsty for my blood and lunch leftovers between my teeth. And then the Novacaine. I slid in the chair in a puddle of sweat, at least I hope that's what it was. I waited for the piercing prison shank to my gums, but ... nothing. Nothing but a tiny little pinch. I waited for the excruciating aftershock, but again... nothing. After a few moments, Dr Isett placed a rubber cover gently over my face, with my disrespectful tooth jutting out like a big toe from a holey sock. For 30 minutes, I waited for pain that never came. Through soft conversation between the endodontist and his pain seeking minion, through the quiet clinking of torture tools, the light crinkling of my ravioli eating infant bib, I felt.... Nothing. In elation and great appreciation I wondered if it was illegal to lick his finger, which was prodding my ill-bred and hateful little tooth. Thankfully, the thought disappeared, and suddenly Dr. Isett ripped the bib from my neck and with a pleasant smile announced "all done"! What an experience. If he had asked to operate on all of my tooth's little off-white square neighbors, I would've agreed without hesitation. What a beautiful, relieving surprise... dare I say I love root canals? Thank you Jesus, thank you Dr. Isett, thank you, Jim Carrey, and thank you to the company that makes the clearance racks, I tossed the receptionist my credit card and told her to take as much as she wanted. Whatever Dr Isett needed. Borrow my car? Here's the keys. Soiled your shirt? I'll tide stick it. Need a weekend away? Take my house, I'll drive myself and my family to a hotel. Thank you, Dr. Isett for my peaceful and wonderful root canal . 4 stars. Would gladly be tortured in this establishment again. read more

Tried to get an appointment with York Endodontics on April 14th. Told the woman on the phone I had a referral from my dentist and was in extreme pain. I was told I couldn't get an appointment until JUNE!! How is that even an option when someone is in pain and in need of immediate care?!? She had no recommendations for other options but just said I could try and get antibiotics from my dentist! Absolutely ridiculous! Called another Endodontist and got a same day appointment right away, as it should be! A two month wait?!?! Someone could suffer serious complications from a tooth abscess waiting for these people! read more

Sat there for 3 hours and then was told I had to come back for the surgery in 2 weeks, despite being in constant pain. I got the feeling that everyone was ready to go home and call it a day. The lady at the front desk said i was free to go after payment for the 3d image. I said, I need to schedule the surgery. She did that and sent me on my way. I said, what about the medication (she never asked me my pharmacy). After telling her my pharmacy, I finally left only to find out she only sent in one of the two medications. Truly the best dental experience I've ever had. I had to come in at an emergency appointment due to a necrotic tooth, I got in and we scheduled a root canal for the following week. Everyone was so pleasant! I've never had a place where I truly thought everyone seemed so incredible. I got the root canal done yesterday and it was truly the easiest dental appointment/procedure I've ever had done. I have a lot of dental trauma but these individuals made everything seem so peaceful. The novocaine injection was the EASIEST one I have ever gotten, I've probably had like 20+ fillings and it has never been as easy as it was when I got it done yesterday (like I truly couldn't tell they had injected me yet). They were very polite and pleasant when working on my root canal as well. It was very nice to receive an aftercare sheet after the procedure, no place has ever given me anything but verbal instruction. I much prefer the paper instructions and they went over it with me also. I truly do recommend this place for what they are able to do with the emergency appointments and how incredible kind everyone was that I came into contact with. Also how gentle and informative everything that I needed done was done/explained to me. Would be happy to return if I needed to! read more

Horrible front desk. Rude. Actually told my 13 year old they did not have a heart or care about her, to her face. Fortunately the dentist was amazing, the nurse did have a heart and my daughter isn't in agony anymore. I was referred for a root canal from my primary dentist. I selected York endodontics West because it was close to home. After waiting over a month for an initial consultation and now on an antibiotic for the tooth, which was obviously infected, I was seen. I was still in a lot of pain. Following the imaging of my mouth, Dr. Kertes comes in to review the images and look at my tooth. Immediately after doing so, he said to me your tooth is dead it needs to be extracted. Then he said in a belittling tone, and I quote "why did you come here? what do you think I'm going to do with this tooth?" I told him that my dentist said it needs a root canal. He continued to tell me to go back to your dentist right now and he can pull this tooth. He told me to go now! So, I thanked him and left. I was too sick to battle him. WTF, I'm not a dentist! If my dentist made a bad call don't take it out on me, the patient! Who does this? Who treats a sick patient like this? Unprofessional and unethical! Needs Jesus! Horrible, unprofessional, and super rude front desk. They charged me $150 upfront, even though my insurance covers copay, x-rays, evel/exam and more. Dr didn't explain my treatment and procedure. He was in my room for about 2 minutes and total charge for visit was $298, not sure why they charge me that much for 2 minute Dr visit. The only thing they did in the clinic was x-ray, which was already send by my other dental clinic. They sounds like greedy for money, NOT for treatment. I spend an hour in clinic and 30 minutes in a room without any dr and nurse. They don't deserve a single star rating and I recommend other dental clinic for your dental treatment. read more

Not terrible but didn't explain my treatment? The Dentist just went in, gave me way too little novocaine and the PAIN i am still in is RIDICULOUS. Made me wear a dental damn that was completely full of my saliva and they just left it on me and walked away to look at my Xray!! in the middle of a procedure!!! My tooth is STILL killing me. They requested a crown but didn't explain this BEFORE the procedure because who has 1k to blow on a crown? I had extreme pain during the procedure and I was shaking. My hands were very shaky and all the dentist did was tap my shoulder. over 24hrs after the procedure I am still crying in pain and cannot open my mouth the whole way. Put me on an antibiotic and couldn't tell me how effective or non effective it would make my other medications. & they took my $. i should not still be in pain. read more

Absolutely the best root canal experience ever!!! I actually missed my scheduled appointment at their sister clinic and when they called to let me know I had missed it they were able to get me in at this location. An Eval and procedure all in one day ( I was in pain for two weeks ) so I was so happy! The staff was super friendly and professional and DR KERTES was fantastic. Everything was explained to me beforehand and he was done so quickly without any discomfort. Hopefully I won't have to return, but I recommend this Dr and clinic to anyone!!! read more

I have had two root canals performed by Dr. Isett. No matter how much agony the tooth gives me at home, it never seems to hurt when he tests it. He was careful to try heat therapy and several options, but upon my insistence of continued pain, he performed the root canal. Instant relief! Had my first root canal done yesterday. Needless to say I was very nervous however the staff and Dr. Kertes explained everything they were going to do which made me feel much more relaxed. The procedure was painless and quick, approx 45 minutes which included prep time and x-ray after the procedure was done. No major discomfort after the numbing wore off. Very bad experience. I had a root canal on 12/11/17. I had to go back twice with terrible pain. I ended up in the hospital with an infection in my mouth. I was hospitalized for a week. Dr. Kertes was my endodontist. When I got out, I called to tell the office and I was told I didn't have an infection when I was there. I was there twice on a Wednesday and was in the hospital on Thursday. read more

Several years ago I had a very positive experience with Dr. Isett, so when I needed another root canal recently, I chose to go there. I had a most unsatisfactory experience with Dr. Kertes. He barely looked at me or talked to me, was very rough in handling my mouth, ignored my signaling that I was in pain, and left the room at the end of the procedure without saying anything at all to me. Since I had the misfortune of needing the root canal as an "emergency," I had to have it in two stages - two chances for Dr. Kertes to at least be nice to me, and both times he was absolutely cold, no reassurance at the end, nothing. I will go to York Endodontics again only if I can be assured of getting Dr. Isett, never Dr. Kertes. read more

I was referred to Dr. James Isett, DMD, MS, at York Endodontic, at 2320 Eastern Boulevard, in York, PA, by my primary dentist Dr. Steven Haywood, DDS, of Southern York Smile Care, in Shrewsbury, PA, for a tooth that was extremely sensitive to pressure and temperature. This was not a chronic problem, but a sudden onset. Dr. Haywood is a great cosmetic and general dentist, but his practice refers potential surgery and internal tooth problems to his expert colleagues. During my exam at Dr. Isett's office, they took an X-ray and examined the affected tooth. By the time I had arrived for the exam, the tooth wasn't hurting anymore; no big surprise. Dr. Isett explained to me that the tooth most likely requires a root canal. I didn't immediately accept his recommendation and requested further explanation. He said that tapping on the tooth with sensitivity indicates a problem. An untreated root canal could lead to an abscess of the gums, infection of the mouth, and potential loss of one or more teeth. To say the least, I came back for the root canal. Prior to coming back, I explained my hesitation and fear due to the horror stories of the pain associated with root canals and others' bad experiences. Their staff assured me that dentistry had come a long way and it would be nothing like what I had heard or imagined. When I came back, I told them that it takes a lot to numb my mouth. They gave me topical analgesic to numb the gum and cheek prior to giving me the injections. After the injections, which felt like little pinches, I was quickly numbed. The entire procedure lasted approximately 45 minutes. It was totally pain free, too. It's a good thing I decided to keep the appointment because Dr. Isett found that the pulp and nerves were necrotic. He stated that it was just a matter of time before another flare up occurred; potentially worse than the one that brought me there to begin with. I do need to return to Dr. Haywood to have the temporary filling removed and a permanent one replace it. I am completely satisfied with York Endodontic, the staff, and Dr. Isett. I was on my honeymoon/vacation and had had a filling done at home before I left. The tooth started bothering me over the weekend and I called York Endodontics. They were able to get me in that same day as an emergency visit. The Doctor and his staff were wonderful and very helpful. The receptionist help me get Care Credit which is like a credit card for medical/dental. read more
