It's a little curmudgeonly of me, but I didn't want this place to be as good as it actually is. I do work around this area and had been curious about Yorkie's for a while; about a month ago I had the opportunity to stop in. It's kind of like Taste in that it's like a Hip And Trendy Sandwich Spot - the staff is mostly perky, cool, and very competent college students - and the prices are about on par with Taste as well, but for what you get here, it's probably double the value of what you can get there. I got their tuna melt, which stuck with me for long enough that it had me craving another sandwich like that when I was in the area again. So today I was in the area again and I brought a friend, who also got the tuna melt and loved it. The thing about that sandwich is that they probably put about a half pound of bluefin tuna salad on it, and it's not mayo or filler-heavy. It's very tuna-forward, which is a plus to me. This time I got the Kevin's Bday, which was turkey, bacon, cheese, LT with this amazing garlicky green onion aioli, because honestly I was like, "Well, the tuna melt was really good. But what about just a Normal Ass Sandwich??" Both those sandwiches come on thick toasted (I think potato?) sandwich bread and my god it was all SO delicious. Again, the portion was enough for two meals, and it was just a turkey sandwich! The turkey was super succulent too. One small detail i really appreciated was that I believe they cut their tomatoes on the slicer as well; they're incredibly thin, and they add a lot to the sandwich without overpowering it. Also their tots are unreal. Sorry for rambling. I'm very passionate about sandwiches apparently. All I'm saying is that if you're at the oceanfront and you're trying to pick a sandwich place, it should be this one. read more

I saw Yorkie's advertise their Wednesday "Girl Lunch" special and immediately knew I had to try it because it combines some of my favorite things: tots, Caesar salad, and a fried chicken cutlet. It was definitely busy during the lunch rush, but worth the wait. The dish was so good! The lemon zest really brightened everything up and kept it from feeling too heavy despite the Caesar dressing, tots, and fried chicken. It added a depth of flavor I wasn't expecting and absolutely loved. At $18 (+ an additional $2 for a can of diet coke), it's a little pricey IMHO, but I'd order it again without hesitation because it's that good. Yorkie's is such a cute spot, the staff was friendly, and while parking can be a bit sparse around lunchtime, it's worth it. The murals on the outside of the building are what first caught my eye and I'm glad they did! The club sandwich here is a thing of beauty, I get why it's called the Club Hubba Hubba! It's stacked mouthwateringly high with ham, turkey, cheddar, BLT, onion, and special sauce on sourdough, all of which tastes even better than it looks. The interior is fairly spacious but it was busy when I visited so I grabbed a spot at the bar seating after placing my order at the counter. Service was pretty quick after that and I positively inhaled my sandwich. Or at least half of it! The other half I saved for lunch the next day. read more

Yorkies is a cool spot near the Oceanfront, right as you get off the highway. The atmosphere is like if a surf shop and deli combined. There is interesting art on the walls, local goods for sale, and the most delicious menu. I am not a sandwich person and I LOVE the Smoked Chicken Cheesesteak. The smoked chicken is tender and chopped up with just the right amount of cheese. There some sort of sautéd red bell pepper action on there too that compliments the sandwich. And it is served on a beautiful sesame roll. Every now and then I get the itch for this sandwich and must make the trek to the Oceanfront. The sandwiches are hefty and could easily be split. The tater tots are perfect golden nuggets. My husband always gets something different and is always happy with his choice. Prepare to be full and wanting more Yorkies if you make the trip. read more

Overall Pretty decent sandwich place! The sandwiches are HUGE! We went with a party of 7. Very chill vibes, there's a ping pong table to play while you wait. Two of us split a Club Hubba Hubba and it was more than enough for the two of us. A bit of a tardy review after checking out Yorkie's VB soon after opening Fall of 2024. After three visits I can weigh in and proudly provide a full 5 star rating. The location is on the edge of the Vibe District by the interstate 264 exit. You can see signage before the turn. They offer their own parking that seems adequate. The cinder block building exterior that was previously a commercial business looks great! The owner Kip Poole has been around the culinary block in Hampton Roads for years. It's a dream come true to finally be his own boss and open an authentic deli shop at the beach. I'm happy for him and staff to have their new home in the Vibe. The interior is open from top to bottom. Concrete floors and views of the ceiling provide a cool atmosphere. There is a small event, conference room space that closes off to the public. Another area makes you feel you're in a 70's living room. Most of the dining area is tables and chairs with a few seats at the bar to watch the sandwich making operation. Everything was spic and span. Yorkies offers grab & go sandwiches and drinks. If lucky enough you may score on their limited bottles of Gin & Juice. A deli counter is available for customers to get meats and cheese, but the variety was weak on my visits. Unique merchandise is also offered with some branded items. Restrooms are on the far left after entering. I found them spacious, clean and offered the needed supplies. Counter service was immediate friendly and helpful each visit. Hand menus and a special board will direct customers to options. They do not offer fountain soda. Everything is bottle including beer and wine. Self serve tap water with ice is available. I got three different sandwiches. BLT, cheesesteak and a chopped cheese special that were for dine in. Sides were macaroni and slaw. The large sandwiches come with a pickle spear. All baskets were delivered to the table. Although it is a fast casual set up I received a follow up from one staff and the owner himself. Out of the three my favorite was the steak and cheese special. I wanted to love the cheesesteak more, but the grease bled through the second half of the bread making it soggy. Taste was still there and their sesame seed hoagie was the bomb! The sides are good, but underwhelming in size. I think they are easing into a new business well. They're growing they're figuring things out and they're improving. I have no doubt that they will just keep getting better and better. 4.5 rounding up. read more

We have been wanting to check this place out since they took over the building... and we weren't disappointed in the least!!! The parking lot is gravel-but don't let that deter you. The space is roomy-warehouse aesthetic! Lots of tables and comfy couch/chair setups. There is even a meeting/private room. I am a huge fan of Phillies and chopped cheese sandwiches-so I tried theirs... and I think I am the most blessed person on earth. My new favorite is so close to home-but even then... it's either a blessing or a curse!!! My wife ordered the "Bourdain" and it was equally as delightful - including the Bay Tots. I was a little disappointed. First off, the place is cool, love the vibe. But unfortunately, I did not like the food. I ordered the club with tots. Seems safe. First, it was a mess. The sandwich was overpacked with meat. They took the cold cuts and folded them like a stack of bills and put them between 3 slices of bread. I had to remove the middle slice of bread to be able to eat it. I guess if you can unhinge your jaw like a snake, you'll be fine. The sandwich was on sourdough, but it was flavorless. Usually, I would say more meat on the sandwich means better value. But I disagree; they could have put half as much meat and charged half as much, and it would have been plenty of food. The sandwich would easily feed 2 people, so I guess if you look at it like that, then it was worth it. But because it was a hot mess, I ended up throwing out a bunch of folded-up meat. So 20ish bucks for a sandwich and tots. Not worth it. I could have taken the leftover cold cuts home and used my own sourdough, and maybe that would have been worth it. I love pastrami and was so happy with my choice. The flavors all blended so well. It's a messy sandwich, and the slaw makes it wet so you don't want to wait too long to eat it. The tater tots cooker in beef tallow were a perfect crunch and pretty addictive. I'm glad we don't live close or I'm sure I'd go there all the time. They had a great selection of sandwiches. So friendly! Everyone here was SO nice and welcoming. Asked our names and said it was nice to meet us, happy to make menu recommendations, inviting us back. Telling us all about their process and making suggestions. A really good first impression. The menu is pretty great. Lots of options to choose from. They have a bunch of lunch/dinner sandwiches, breakfast sandwiches, soft serve, fresh cookies, salads, hot dogs and more! We tried the Pork Italian and the Turtle sandwiches. I asked to add tomato and was told - "of course!" I like that, super easygoing about special requests. My husband really wanted the pastrami but we were told that they make it fresh daily and when it's gone it's gone, I bet it's very good. We will come back to try that for sure, it's my husband's favorite. Portions are very generous and prices are more than fair. They also have coffee and a variety of drinks, sodas and beers. Driving around the Vibe District a few days ago and saw this place, had the kids with me and decided to stop and check it out. The atmosphere was such warm and welcoming, music was playing 2000's music and brought me back to my younger days. Service was amazing, had help from a wonderful young lady, said her name was Kai (Ky?) she recommended great choices based on the things I was interested in and had a nice chat and laugh with her, so friendly! Yorkie's was a great lil casual deli that my husband and I decided to pop into for dinner! The staff members were incredibly friendly, great vibes, open seating, and yummy food! The night that we visited the music was a tad loud inside, so maybe consider having it turned down a bit if not so many patrons inside. The menu is generous with so many options- it was hard for us to choose! I had the Italian sandwich and my husband had the burrata grilled cheese. I loved the sauce that was on the Italian hoagie, gave it the perfect flavor! My husband was indifferent about his grilled cheese- I think he was a bit disappointed that he didn't go with his gut of the cheesesteak. But there's always next time! My friend and I went on a Sunny Sunday afternoon and even though it was cool the big garage doors were open and plenty of folks were sitting outside. The decor was very cute! Bright, clean, beachy and welcoming. There was a line for our orders to be taken at the counter but we thought it was really good that they had a sign up saying how long we could expect the wait to be for our order to come out. Managing expectations is always a good idea. We didn't mind the wait. Apparently perfection takes time. I ordered the Yorkie figuring the house sandwich was a good bet. My friend got the cheese-steak. The menu said sesame seed rolls which they did not have that day but we found the bread to be perfect without them. Like where can I get that bread!?! My sandwich was dripping with goodness and slightly spicy (but I'm a lightweight about spices) and big enough that half was plenty. I should have gone for the tater tots first as they were a bit soft by the time I got to them. I thought they could have been fried a little more. I tried Yorkie's Modern Deli a couple of times and had both the Yorkie and the cheesesteak. The first Yorkie I ordered in-store was flavorful and well-prepared, but it lacked the generous amount of meat you'd normally expect from a Northeast-style deli sandwich (especially compared to Philly or NY). When I ordered it again through a delivery app, it came toasted -- something that wasn't offered as an option. Since I don't enjoy hot cold cut sandwiches, that was a big letdown. The cheesesteak was decent, and I do give them credit for not labeling it a "Philly." However, for $20, the portion was very small and again light on meat. Standard toppings like fried onions and ketchup were extra, so I tried it plain, which left it feeling a bit underwhelming. Overall, Yorkie's has potential. The flavors are good, but the sandwiches would benefit from more traditional preparation, larger portions, and closer alignment with the deli traditions that inspired them. First time here and ordered the Utah, cucumber salad and a coke. Layout is cool with a large glass garage door that was open. While waiting for my food to be brought out noticing the decor of a good beach vibe, with the aroma of good stuff in the air making ya a little bit more hungry, food just showed up , so give me a minute .......started with the cucumber salad, it was cold and tasty, as you see in the picture it was a little on the small side but worked. The focaccia bread was house made and very good, the sandwich as a whole was well made and the size made up for the smaller cucumber salad. The guy taking our order mentioned an additional charge for tomatoes, which I said was fine. (Not sure how much that was because I wasn't given a receipt.) When we got our food, the tots were barely warm. The sandwiches had a ton of meat on them but had very little flavor. And I had no tomatoes on my sandwich.
